    3A-3C archery hunt 2013

You post said archery but you have a lot of rifle pics, I am assuming you do the rifle hunt as well? I will have to give you a ring my daughter has a rifle tag. You guys have killed some fantastic bucks the last few years.

    Costco Tent Trailer

Wow my last post from my phone made almost no sense... I looked at these and read a lot of reviews. It is a good setup and the price is good considering the price of just a trailer these days. I ended up picking up a jumping jack used. The JJ is very overbuilt and tows like it is not even there. I can also easily get the RZR or two quads on it. The things also set up in MUCH less time than a regular tent and the JJ is heavy canvas like an outfitter tent.

    Costco Tent Trailer

I looked at them but for the jumping jack. It is very similar but is kind of a light version. Of the overbuilt JJ. Still it would be a great hunting rig and they literally town like they are not there.

    Leupold vs vortex

I have both and like both. If you are really going to shoot long range +500 the Vortex probably has better features. If not go with the Leupy it will be much lighter. I think the glass will be pretty evenly matched and both are good companies. Vortex has the better warranty.

    Tree stand info?

Great info, thanks everyone! I bought the Lone Wolf sticks and a Gorilla stand to start with. I got the Gorilla for a good price so spent some money on the ultralight sticks. I tried everything out this weekend and as could be exepected everything was a little cumbersome the first go around. I could not get the linemans belt factory or my own to be tight enough to let me hang from the tree with any confidence while I set up the sticks and then setting the treestand was a bit of a challenge. I also learned the hardway to find a tree without limbs, had 3 limbs I had to navigate around, wont be doing that again! I ditched the factory harness and wore a climbing harness and made my own lifeline and linemans belt. It all worked pretty well maybe a few things to refine. Next on my list is a Lone wolf hand climber for packing in on long hauls. I will deffintitely look at the Millenium stands as well. I like the idea of securing the reciever and then the stand instead of messing with all the weight the first go around.
  8. Okay I want one and have been looking at them for a couple of years now. I want one for the reasons the vid shows, this may be one of the greatest teaching aids for kids learning to shoot. One of my kids will shoot anything you let her including a 300RUM with a break or the 357 until she runs you out of ammo and the other is very sensitive to noise, both girls so it isn't a girl thing. Is there a smith you would recommend, anything special about the installation? From what I have read/watched it is basically threaded just alike a break. Is there a limit to how many an individual or trust can own? I was looking to do a 6.5 or 7mm and it looks like the 7mm uses the .308 suppressor, sound right? Thanks for any advice!
  9. okay what do I know? I looked at this pack and several reviews to decide on a pack for bowhunting and never saw anything about it being waterproof. I just read another review and verified on the Eberle site that it comes in two materials and the NT7 Microfleece is indeed waterproof. So if you order one make sure you get the NT7 option if you want it to be waterproof. sorry for my previous misinformation....
  10. I have not found anyone making a waterproof backpack. Many are water repellent due to a finish like azm just mentioned. This is why almost every single mfg sells a cover for you pack that is water proof. I believe there are a few reasons not to have it be water proofthe biggest is it helps I'd things breath otherwise your stuff can get real warm and rank after awhile. The new e-vent and goretex are pretty good and do breathe more than the old plastic bag stuff but are crazy expensive to the point where it would probably almost double the cost of your pack like the $300-$500 jackets that use it.
  11. I have leupold, vortex, Burris, night force, and bushnell. Vortex are rock solid and have great features, night force are kind of the std for ruggedness and consistency, and Leopold has been doing it in the good ole USA for a long time and makes great stuff with a TON of options and the choice of going custom. bushnell has some great price points as does weaver, Burris, Nikon, and Pentax. So figure out what you really want and narrow it down. All that being said... Have to agree with FC80 though my next will probably be one of the Zeiss they are lighter than most, glass is really great, and the price is right and you can order a custom turret. My next rifle will be a 6.5, pseudo mountain rifle so the weight will be one of the driving factors. Midway even has $100 off right now on Zeiss, but check with some of the sponsors on a deal first.

Can someone explain MRAD's to me?

Yes, what blade said! Google milliradian and you will find all kinds of info. All of my scopes are MRAD and justs about every app out for shooting will do MRAD or MOA and some have IPHY (inch per 100 yds) as well. If you are just starting out then I would probably go MOA just because for most it is more intuitive. One thing to consider with a new scope is that the reticle and adjustment be the same system it simplifies things a bit to work with only one system. If you buy a shooting app such as Shooter it will help you understand what is going on with windage and elevation (also spin drift, and coriolis) you can see the graphs for your bullet flight. You can also make range cards ahead of time for convenience. Out to 500 you can probably get by with a ranging reticle and may not even need tactical knobs. There are lots of good systems I don't own a Zeiss scope but their reticle s and glass are great. They are IPHY which may be the simplest to remember. A straight MRAD reticle may be a bit more difficult to sort out since it is not just a simple set of hold over or windage marks. Happy shooting!

    Good deal on CL

Heck of a deal! You could send the serial number to Swarovski USA and they could tell you if they check out. Problem is it may take awhile to get an answer.

    Learning to cape

Take Jim up on his offer! He has always been great with advice and telling me what I could have done better or what he appreciated me taking the time to do in the past. It is also cool to see what they are working on as well! My only issue now is I have not had any work for him in a few years.

Midway and others are still saying coming soon and I haven't seen anyone taking pre-orders. Definitely looks like these will be worth trying!

    Eberlestock Team Elk Pack

Do we ever have goup buys on the forum? I would think there would be 5-10 guys that would buy a pack at the same time if we could save a little money. Just curious, some sites have them ongoing all the time.

    Eberlestock Team Elk Pack

I have the X1 which is basically the X3 minus the oversized scabbard. I think you will be wanting for more room, it is a great pack but I dont see being able to get much of an animal in it for packing out. The Team Elk also has the scabbard and an integrated bow holder which has to be added on the others, if you need one. No wrong choice just pointing out some of the differences.

Who has the best steak in town?

Azshtr. I haven't gotten a ticket there but I agree. I think they have 4 cameras now and it is a joke and annoys me every time I drive through.
