Good advice! You can turn the call down some if it is cranked up by I just let it go as well. A decoy can make a huge difference. Oh and missing is part f the game. They move a lot faster than they look and rarely in a straight line.

I do exactly the same now. I will also clean if I am going to work on anew load just for piece of mind. Great shooting Stomp!

I was looking at the X2 for a smaller pack and an archery pack but I think I like the Elk pack even better. I have a dragonfly and an X2 this would fit nicely right between them. It still has room for a big spotter and tripod which starts to limit the room left in the X1. Only downside it is a little on the heavy side like most Eberle packs.

lower quality 6x20x40 or higher quality 4x14x40?
rcdinaz replied to apache12's topic in Long Range Shooting
The better glass... Although the weaver scops are surprisingly good so look at them both. The one thing you did t mention was weight and Zeiss are some of the lightest available. -

The Salomon's have been getting great reviews the last few years and quite a few editor's choice awards. I will probably check them out at REI next time I get over there.

Perfect! Can you imagine the statistics if this were to take off? Percentage of houses robbed that do not have guns... 100%! -
Figure out what features you want then find what fits the best. I have had Rock, Danner, Under Armour, Irish Setter, Asolo, Zamberlan, Cabaleas and some other cheap ones. For my foot (slightly narrow) the Asolo are still the best feeling boots regardless of price and the Zamberlan make a big difference if I am going to lug a heavy pack. A boot for heavy packing is a different creature from a regular hiking and hunting boot and your feet will thank you if you have a good pair. Insoles can help a great deal as well. Things to think of, Terrain, water-proofing, packing, shape of your foot such as arch & width, and insulation needed. A good place to start is to talk to the people at REI and try on a bunch of boots there, and at Sportsmans, and Bass Pro. Good luck!

buy a youth rifle and add an adult stock or buy youth stock for ?
rcdinaz replied to apache12's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I wet through this with my daughter, we went on three separate visits to Sportsman's and a few to Bass Pro and she held everything in stock in a .243. She ended up going back to the Tikka T3 Light and the Winchester Feather-light. Neither of them technically a youth rifle, they were both lighter than most of the youth rifles. Well the Win cost 2x the Tikka so she has had a Tikka for a few years now and it shoots fantastic in stock form. Also, it is a really great little carry rifle if I do any walking varmint hunting or decide to do any big pack trips. If it were to be too long I would have had it cut and then bought an aftermarket stock down the road. -
Duh! Sorry

Are you just looking to use a boat or help with fishing? What part of the valley are you in? -
You can pair the Kifaru gun bearer w the Kuiu. Going to be almost impossible to get lighter than that! You can also strap the rifle down if you are not hunting. For a very reasonable tipi check go lite. Lots of vids and write ups on how to add a stove pipe hole that is fire proof. Lightest stove I have seen is Ti Mountain Goat out of Utah.

I switched from the FED magnums to CCI primers due to the same reason and had much more consistent spreads as well. I have been using them with good results in magnum calipers. I am still using the fed's in a couple of calibers that don't seem to care which primer.

I keep going back to my Eberlestock Dragonfly. I have a Kuiu which is crazy light for a big pack but carrying a rifle is best done in the Eberlestock and nothing else compares that I have found. I use the Kifaru gun bearer on the Kuiu and have a buddy that has half a dozen badlands. You can run run with your gun in the Eberlestock which I can't say is possible with any other system short of lots of wrapping it up so you can't get to it. I also have an X1 for short trips and will probably be buying one of their other large packs in the near future. All of that said if you are going with a bow there are other better choices.

308 nut you are the first one I have ever heard claim Retumbo was not consistent or magic. I happen to agree and quit using it even in the RUM and 7RM. I only use H1000 now and consistency is vastly better. I also only use H4831sc in my 6's don't have a 6.5 but do have a 6-284 in which I tried a half dozen powders. A 6.5 will probably be my next addition.

I can't do the sleeping on the ground thing with a bivy. My tent is almost as lite as most bivys and I have the false sense of being in a room, a very small one but I can/ have hung in there in a very nasty storm and was dry and worm. My problem these days is wanting to bring my big spotter, 15's, and a 12lb gun, so that 20lbs alone means I am no ultrlite hunter! I am working to get down to one reasonable set of binocs and one tripod though.

The foil will mostly steam them, try directly on the grill or on a plank. Frying is always the best!

That is awesome! Every once in a while I find a tree I cant figure out how they broke it. Guess with enough testosterone flowing through them they hulk out!

What if it is a good size tree rubbed raw and snapped in half?
