    Backpacks!!! Looking for some info

I keep going back to my Eberlestock Dragonfly. I have a Kuiu which is crazy light for a big pack but carrying a rifle is best done in the Eberlestock and nothing else compares that I have found. I use the Kifaru gun bearer on the Kuiu and have a buddy that has half a dozen badlands. You can run run with your gun in the Eberlestock which I can't say is possible with any other system short of lots of wrapping it up so you can't get to it. I also have an X1 for short trips and will probably be buying one of their other large packs in the near future. All of that said if you are going with a bow there are other better choices.

    6.5x284

308 nut you are the first one I have ever heard claim Retumbo was not consistent or magic. I happen to agree and quit using it even in the RUM and 7RM. I only use H1000 now and consistency is vastly better. I also only use H4831sc in my 6's don't have a 6.5 but do have a 6-284 in which I tried a half dozen powders. A 6.5 will probably be my next addition.

    backpack huntin in AZ

I can't do the sleeping on the ground thing with a bivy. My tent is almost as lite as most bivys and I have the false sense of being in a room, a very small one but I can/ have hung in there in a very nasty storm and was dry and worm. My problem these days is wanting to bring my big spotter, 15's, and a 12lb gun, so that 20lbs alone means I am no ultrlite hunter! I am working to get down to one reasonable set of binocs and one tripod though.

Lake Pleasant Stripers are back on the bite!

The foil will mostly steam them, try directly on the grill or on a plank. Frying is always the best!

    LETS COUNT THE RUBS

That is awesome! Every once in a while I find a tree I cant figure out how they broke it. Guess with enough testosterone flowing through them they hulk out!

    Free Float or not?

I agree bed the actions and float or buy a stock that has a bedding block already as part. I have had one rifle out of about 20 that shot better with the a full bedding job through the stock, not free floated. It was my dads old JC Higgins 270 in its original stock, but even that will be free floated once we change the old tired barrel.
  9. Left just below the double century plant below longshooters circle and another one right of the cliff face up a little and about 3 trees over standing between two of the trees looking back. Is there more? How many?

    Goal Zero solar gear

Good review! I have the older version and have been using it for a couple of years. It is a great backup solution for backpacking but I actually found myself using more in the boat. I could hook up the iPhone and run music through portable speakers all day and it was very easy to have it sitting out on the deck. I also use rechargeable batteries and sprung for Recycko higher end batteries, these and the Eneloop cost more but work and last FAR longer than the energizer, duracell ones you see hanging on the rack. They actually last longer than the Alkalines in most cases and a REALLY long time in game cams. The +2000mAh rated batteries are a big difference than the cheaper ones. Amazon Basics now has one for less and they look like they may just be a private labeled Recycko battery from the reviews.

    Zeiss 6.5 x 20 x50 MC

Something odd going on as the scope should have ~45" according to Zeiss. My chart showed just over 18 MOA required but it still shouldnt matter. This is the first really bad exeperince I have heard with Zeiss so I would go with Redman and check all your variables regarding mounting. It almost sounds like the scope is canted in the wrong direction or sighted in with the turret turned a few times from its nuetral position to get the zero elevation. Not trying to offend your skills but I cant think of much else that would cut your adjustment in half. Have you counted the adjustments from bottom to top to see if it is a mechanical issue, a pain but if it wont make all the rotations to begin with something is wrong. Have a buddy look it over sometimes fresh eyes find things. I have found issues with a few friends set-ups even though they went through it a number of times also found things I did not notice initially on my own guns after cursing them. If you figure it out post an update so the next guy will lose less hair due to the same dilemma. good luck!

    Steel gong?

POB to answer your question the Sportsman's steel is a decent deal. I believe it is the Caldwell gong you are refering to ~$125. AR steel is not cheap I have wo pieces for targets I made and then some big pieces of mild steel. Mild steel is not that bad but you will punch holes through it. I have been using a couple pcs along with the AR squares for the last couple of years. I simply put tape or stickers over the holes. I use the AR plates for long range (700-1300yds) since you need them to move to signal a hit where up close you can see the holes. I purchased my AR plates at Industrial Metal Supply in Phx but oz31p said his guys would cut it to the shape you want it which is a good deal. Also get the holes drilled for your chains while you are at it. I burnt up two high end drill bits on the press putting holes in mine. Also, check longrangehunting.com if you need a frame to hang the steel from. There is a member their that make corners out of aluminum that allow you to use 5 pcs of rebar to make a frame, so it is cheap and easy to carry and you can customize the height.

    Costco Tent Trailet

I researched them quite as bit, I ended up buying a used JJ only because these are a lighter weight model. So it would be great just wont carry as much weight and the frame is not as heavy. I put two quads or a razor on top so need the heavier axle and frame. It should tow like it is not even there and they are pretty nimble on the trail as well.

    suggestions on a good tripod?

A couple of really good options also for sale in the CW store.
  18. I have used slip2000 good stuff. I have tried bore tech, butches, wipeout, hoppe's, Montana, sweets and a few others. I now use wipeout, slip2000, CLP, and butches, I also use Kellube on the bolt. They all work some just faster or on a better task than others. Example, I use slip2K at the range where I want to clean but not strip out the copper especially after finding a pet load and getting everything fine tuned before a hunt.

Even my wife is now addicted! A show the the whole family likes... What a concept!

    YOU tell me!!!

I use the smaller one and keep things as light as possible. Truth is I have had to cut one off and did it surprisingly quickly so nothing is going to stop someone who is just an @ss from taking it or breaking it. the cable is just a really good deterent so no need to add weght or cost in my opinion. One of my old cameras I use a light chain and two lock, now that one is going to require some bolt cutters or a lot of time with a hack saw to get off, but not quite as convenient.

Who has the best steak in town?

Capital Grill, Mastro's, City Hall all have dry aged beef and nothing else compares. Also, the reason the prices are much higher. Morton's is up there as well. Flemmings and Ruth Chis do wet aged and are very good but not the same. Cowboy Caio in downtown Scottsdale does wild game on their menu and sometimes has bison steaks which are pretty good. They also claim the largest wine list in the state, it is a book. Dang! I am getting really hungry now!

    bull frogs spots?

Might check Picacho, I have not been out there this year to see how much water id there but the frogs used to be there. Lot of area to cover so you may need to make it a night trip so they dont just take off into the reeds before you can get close.

    bull frogs spots?

Yep Most I have seen are up in Show Low in the small settling and drainage ponds. Anywhere there is water consistently they seen to be there. We were up around Pintail and my daughter chased the small ones after a hatch for hours! There were hundreds of them it looked like the ground was constantly moving. I got to imagine the birds eat really well over the next couple of months.
