Android or iPhone period with a backup battery and small solar charger. The screen and choices for maps is miles beyond a hand held and when paired w a Bluetooth GPS receiver the signal is also far superior. Camera, games, and phone when u have a signal. All that being said i also have 5 Rino's so I can see where everyone is when we spread out.

I have 2, 250's and they do everything except lacking a little storage/carrying capacity. Also have a RZR to take kids and the old man w me. Remember you can pick il the 250-350 size so they never get stuck and if u add a winch you won't even need to do that. There are a few times I did wish I had 4x4 for slow crawling up steep rocky roads.

Which rifle for a youth hunter?
rcdinaz replied to SteveKDC's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I will second the Tikka T3 243 which is what we bought for the kids. I still cant believe how it shoots with nothing done to the rifle not even bedded and it is as light as the Win Featherweight for half the price. 25-06 is a fantastic caliber as well and will reach way out there with heavier bullets that have great BC's. Maybe somewhat limited on off the shelf ammo choices though. My buddy shoots his for pretty much everything and he has 6-7 very nice rifles. -
Which rifle for a youth hunter?

My experience is it doesnt matter how big they are that dictates recoil tolerance each kid is just different. My daughter oldest daughter feom about the time ahe was 11 would shoot anything and loves shooting the 357, 45, 7mm mag, 300 Dak. Not sure why but she just shrugs off the recoil and noise. Almost every other kid we have had out girl or boy stops with the 9mm or 243 and doesnt want to shoot bigger. All that being said I would go 243 in a lighter gun, easy to carry, cheaper ammo, and very little recoil. It is very hard to unteach a flinch and you get to add a lite hiking rifle to your arasenal as well as a perfect javi/varmint rifle that works on deer. -
#1 huge added sense of accomplishment regardless of the trophy's!

20 MOA is almost always enough especially if your reticle has additional relief. A mile is a LONG way, happy shooting!

I believe it is all about the setup... Stay out of open areas, stay off ridge lines, stay quite, know where te wind is, identify as much as possible where the critters will show up by choosing the cover you can kind of force them to use. All of these things need to be considered when your moving and when your sitting.

It may help to give an idea what your price range is. A lot of difference between a +$2K euro spotter and a $500 spotter. I have had the Minox spotter with the HD glass and it is a good spotter for the money. I have the big Swaro with HD glass now and it is great as expected but it weighs a bunch and costs a bunch. Vortex makes great stuff in all the price ranges. Now that the seasons are mostly over I would come up with a short list and watch the classifieds. everything I have bought from this community has been well taken care of. -
Please pm any pics or email rcdinaz@cox.net Thanks!

what options are you looking for? Don't beat yourself up I am sure someone else has already had the same questions or challenges you are having. All of the apps have some quirks or one or two unique features. I settled on Cabela's and Motion X because they have a few different features that make having maps cached with both useful. Motion X main attraction is the Bing satellite maps which seem to be much more current images than Google. I replaced BackCountry with Cabela's since it makes completely loading and planning a trip on your MAC/PC easy to do and then sync with your handheld device. Recon like back country also has the private land overlay maps so you know where you are allowed to hunt.

I did a short write up on this search my posts. cabelas recon is probably the best, motion x, and back country are also good. You will need to practice cacheing the maps so you know it is saved and viewable the way you want. Cabelas and back country offer boundary info such as private land etc. you will also need to buy a Bluetooth GPS transmitter the xgps one is excellent. With this you end up with the best gps screen possible which garmin or any others can't touch. You can even use it with an iPad so a couple people can view all at once. The transmitter allows full location and track back features. Let me if you have any questions on the set up.

4831SC is what I use in almost every non magnum rifle and is the great stuff, very easy to work with as far as metering. If you try it please report back I may give that a whirl in one of the larger cases.
-
Good looking stick! Ask the gunsmith to give you the measurements he will be able to do it very quickly chamber & magazine. If the mag is shorter than your COAL then you will have to load them shorter or have a single shot.
-
If you have room to still cycle cartridges then y the seating depth no harm there. I agree with FirstCoues most of the high BC bullets like to be pushed pretty hard. Under load a VLD and watch it be unstable and shoot crappy groups as well. I am sure you already know it but be careful with the the pressure signs. That being said if the bolt lift is not heavy and primers are okay I doubt you are having pressure issues with a load just behind the mfg suggestions as they are almost always conservative and safe. Almost always but some guns can be a little different. I only say this because I have had one rifle that left slight ejector marks but never any other issues. You may also try another powder every magnum I have pretty much lives on H1000 now, used to be Retumbo but I have found H1000 more consistent pretty much across all three rifles.

Third time in Mexico with Reynaldo finally paid off!

Great job! Definitely worth the wait! -
Nothing does well against cat claw other than what was mentioned like one of the hard materials like Carhartt denim or saddle cloth. Saddle cloth shrugs off everything but is hot and stiff, I hated it for the most part. I have had Kuiu for a couple of seasons and it snags also, it is better in my opinion than a lot of other new materials, I think the weave is a bit tighter than some of the other brands. I think it is really hard to get both very durable and very comfortable. Carrying shooting sticks or walking sticks seems to be the best cure I have found for cat claw, just push it out of the way whenever possible.

That is great!

GoPro to Spotting Scope?
rcdinaz replied to AxisWorks LLC's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
Do a search on YouTube, there is a good short video a guy put up bird watching. He made the adaptor with a spray paint can lid, a piece of wood, and some Velcro. Video is pretty darn good! -
Great deer! Not sure on the score but over 100 and worth whatever work it takes to get the job done.
-
Awesome! Almost through the mouse!

H1000 or Retumbo 190gr HVLD's or 210's. I actually had more consistency with the H1000 than Retumbo but it wont push them quite as hard.

If someone has the space but cost is an issue let me know I would be willing to partner with someone just don't have the space. I have a small trailer to use as well sitting in storage.

Wish I had a place for them I have been wanting pack goats for years!
