    20 or 40moa rail??

20 MOA is almost always enough especially if your reticle has additional relief. A mile is a LONG way, happy shooting!

    help!

I believe it is all about the setup... Stay out of open areas, stay off ridge lines, stay quite, know where te wind is, identify as much as possible where the critters will show up by choosing the cover you can kind of force them to use. All of these things need to be considered when your moving and when your sitting.

Looking to get a new spotter... Need pointers

It may help to give an idea what your price range is. A lot of difference between a +$2K euro spotter and a $500 spotter. I have had the Minox spotter with the HD glass and it is a good spotter for the money. I have the big Swaro with HD glass now and it is great as expected but it weighs a bunch and costs a bunch. Vortex makes great stuff in all the price ranges. Now that the seasons are mostly over I would come up with a short list and watch the classifieds. everything I have bought from this community has been well taken care of.

    IPhone GPS app

what options are you looking for? Don't beat yourself up I am sure someone else has already had the same questions or challenges you are having. All of the apps have some quirks or one or two unique features. I settled on Cabela's and Motion X because they have a few different features that make having maps cached with both useful. Motion X main attraction is the Bing satellite maps which seem to be much more current images than Google. I replaced BackCountry with Cabela's since it makes completely loading and planning a trip on your MAC/PC easy to do and then sync with your handheld device. Recon like back country also has the private land overlay maps so you know where you are allowed to hunt.

    IPhone GPS app

I did a short write up on this search my posts. cabelas recon is probably the best, motion x, and back country are also good. You will need to practice cacheing the maps so you know it is saved and viewable the way you want. Cabelas and back country offer boundary info such as private land etc. you will also need to buy a Bluetooth GPS transmitter the xgps one is excellent. With this you end up with the best gps screen possible which garmin or any others can't touch. You can even use it with an iPad so a couple people can view all at once. The transmitter allows full location and track back features. Let me if you have any questions on the set up.
  8. 4831SC is what I use in almost every non magnum rifle and is the great stuff, very easy to work with as far as metering. If you try it please report back I may give that a whirl in one of the larger cases.

    300 rum loads???

Good looking stick! Ask the gunsmith to give you the measurements he will be able to do it very quickly chamber & magazine. If the mag is shorter than your COAL then you will have to load them shorter or have a single shot.
  10. If you have room to still cycle cartridges then y the seating depth no harm there. I agree with FirstCoues most of the high BC bullets like to be pushed pretty hard. Under load a VLD and watch it be unstable and shoot crappy groups as well. I am sure you already know it but be careful with the the pressure signs. That being said if the bolt lift is not heavy and primers are okay I doubt you are having pressure issues with a load just behind the mfg suggestions as they are almost always conservative and safe. Almost always but some guns can be a little different. I only say this because I have had one rifle that left slight ejector marks but never any other issues. You may also try another powder every magnum I have pretty much lives on H1000 now, used to be Retumbo but I have found H1000 more consistent pretty much across all three rifles.

    Sitka Camo

Nothing does well against cat claw other than what was mentioned like one of the hard materials like Carhartt denim or saddle cloth. Saddle cloth shrugs off everything but is hot and stiff, I hated it for the most part. I have had Kuiu for a couple of seasons and it snags also, it is better in my opinion than a lot of other new materials, I think the weave is a bit tighter than some of the other brands. I think it is really hard to get both very durable and very comfortable. Carrying shooting sticks or walking sticks seems to be the best cure I have found for cat claw, just push it out of the way whenever possible.

    GoPro to Spotting Scope?

Do a search on YouTube, there is a good short video a guy put up bird watching. He made the adaptor with a spray paint can lid, a piece of wood, and some Velcro. Video is pretty darn good!

    300 rum loads???

H1000 or Retumbo 190gr HVLD's or 210's. I actually had more consistency with the H1000 than Retumbo but it wont push them quite as hard.

    vortex pst 6-24x50

I have had one for a couple of years so not the ffp but a great scope. I have nightforce, leupold, Burris and the vortex may be the best value going. Sightron and Zeiss are the others I would look at.

    Piers Morgan

The gun control argument is completely senseless and based on fear! Biggest question is why do CNN and MSNBC believe we need foreigners to give us our news and debate the meaning of our constitution. I travel a great deal and have never been to another country and witnessed newscasters from the U.S. doing the updates. Our news media is one of the great mysteries of all time!?
  21. Good info! I would add that Sportsman's and Cabela's have resolving (optics) charts in their stores and 50 yards is adequate for comparing on a chart. Bass pro does not and needs to fix this. At bass pro you are best looking for the detail on animals such as hair or fathers, compare center and edge resolution in comparable models to help with your decision. Do not pick up the most expensive ones or you will be screwed and max out the credit card after going in to buy the $300 ones.

    Ideas on a quad...

Ranger, Rhino, Teryx are all good machines if you get the newer fuel injected models, usually 2008 and up, there is nothing to mess with regarding the engine other than maintenance. I am looking at all of them right now as well. I had a 2006 Rhino and it was great, never a problem and it went everywhere a sane person would want to go. I also have 2 quads and they are fun and nice but it is much easier for hunting to get around in the SxS.
