We have been in 32 for a very long time and out of the 4-5 guys over the years only one has acted the way your are describing. To bad the G&F took a big black eye for that guy he caused 6 hunters to not care much for the G&F. It was years ago and everyone still talks about him. The officer that was out last year almost made up for him he was very helpful, polite, and seemed genuine. I always figure the officers have to deal with a lot of knuckle heads just like the police do so it gets tough to trust people so I really appreciate the guys who are able to give us the benefit of the doubt. I am pretty sure most of the G&F are probably hard working just like the rest of us. I have a rule to not be one of the guys asking "what does that guy do!". After holding a number of positions I realize I don't know too many people that don't feel they work hard. "Work smart" now that is a whole different ball of wax. I would guess most of the G&F folks hate the politics and constant budgeting changes as much as we do. Although like the post office I wish they would raise prices enough to quite screwing with stuff constantly. I also would rather get drawn every other year than hunt with 500 other guys every season.

Ducks in the desert
rcdinaz replied to rcdinaz's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
One more of the small haul.... Top row are spoonies and the bottom 2 are pintails. All but one decoyed pretty well nothing else really took much of a look at the decoys. -
Good feedback! I like the 6.5x284 but I already have a 6x284 which uses 6.5284 lapua brass necked down. Too much of an opportunity for disaster with the same head stamps so I was staying away from that one. I am leaning towards the 260 or the 6.5WSM. This will be a project for next year.

Good info, thanks! 6.5 WSM sounds interesting.

take the bolt out and measure the distance from the bottom of the the inside or your action to the top of te scope tube. From that subtract half the height of you scope tube and half the height of the action. What elpepe said, long version....

You guys are killing me! I thought I was done after buying the Swaro RF and the big HD spotter. I have 15's and 10's and now I gotta go look at these! Swarovski is possibly the worst addiction there is in hunting! I have a buddy that broke down this year and bought some 15's, everytime the topic comes up he still tells me he is pissed at me for ever letting him look through my swaros.

Leica is smaller and does have inclinomter, temp, baro but the Swaro is easier to get ranges quickly and at very far distances. Bushnell and Nikon are fine but my experience is the effective range is not much over 500yds even for the 1000 which I have. One more thing if you have an Android or iPhone you already have an inclinometer so the feature in an RF is not nearly as big a deal. Most of the shooting software out now will use the phone to calculate the adjustment without you having to think about it. Oh and my vote and $ went to Swaro...

Good review! I had the same experience the lady's in the phoenix office are very helpful and great to work with. They did not have a cover for the Swaro Rangefinder so I brought mine to them and they were able to get it designed and made for me in 2 weeks. What was better is that it was free since they used my RF to make the pattern for their catalog. Apparently if you have optics they don't have a pattern for and loan them to them they will make you cover for free. I have these on all my bino's and RF now inexpensive way ot protect your gear.

.30-06 vs .270 vs .308: What do you like and why
rcdinaz replied to Airbusdriver's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I agree 270! -
Orange drill Abnormal... probably!

Which model? There are a bunch now...

Stomp442 Which 6.5 do you like best? I have a 6x284 and love working with that Lapua brass but the 6.5WSM sounds like a really cool little cartridge. How much more MV are you getting from the WSM, 200fps?

question about Van Horne Gunsmithing.
rcdinaz replied to maximus's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I have used him mostly for small things. He did fix an ejector clearance problem I had on a rifle. Seemed to do a good job but I don't have many others to compare him to locally. I think you probably need to give some details on what you are having done. Some guys really specialize in certain rifles and actions, somethings most smiths can take care of. Van Horne seems to have a good rep with the TC crowd and for a few of his own wildcat calibers. Most guys don't want to bash anyone directly, either. If your friend had good reasons to be unhappy and you go you may kick yourself forever. just my $0.02 -
Bummer... I would love to come by but my company party is on the same night.
-
Never mind! I did some more checking and they are protected.... so I guess no activity for these guys! Very cool looking animal though and I am not sure most people would even know what they were looking at.

I have drawn a tag and been blessed to take a ram and he was smaller than that and I was in a very god unit. I took him on the last day after spending 19 days in the field and I still consider him to be a trophy WAY above any other. I don't know anyone, and I was out with a lot of Sheep Society guys, that would pass up a 160 or better if granted the rarity of drawing a tag. That is a great ram, good pics! The 167 ram is a complete toad for a desert, awesome! Just my $0.02

AGREED! Are you sure they are protected, I couldn't find them on a list? You know.... Just saying...

Not in Tucson, but Van Horn's in Gilbert specializes in the TC's and such.

Duck Recipes --- who has a good one?
rcdinaz replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Cooking Wild Foods
Going to do the Ramaki and give that Bacon Weave a try. The weave was very impressive looking! We usually stick to the duck poppers and they disappear like candy. Someon already mentioned them ~1" pc of duck a piece of jalapeno all wrapped in bacon. We usually soak it is a brine of some kind or overnight in BBQ sauce. Terriyaki also works well. -
Okay I need some ideas on pre-made camp meals. I got chili and green chili, sounds the same but two very different things on goes with cornbread the other with tortillas. I saw some post by chef but whet else do you guys take that everyone is just dying to get back to camp to eat or that you could throw in a pack for an overnighter out in the field. Thanks! If there is a thread on this already please point me int the right direction.
-
That is awesome, congratulations! I am still looking for one.
-
Thanks again for another useful thread, didnt know about this one.
-
Amanda thanks for the thread! I will be adding these to the next menu: Shredded B-B-Q Spaghetti Stew Along with Chili I hvae done the PB&J tortillas as well, works well. I also think I need to buy a smoker, seems smoked meat is a great thing to have for camp. I am also getting tired of cooking ducks the same way all the time. Using vacuum bags and having everything pre-made or at least pre-cut is a great idea from the other thread! Lark I won't be fighting you for the Spam or pork rinds at the store, ALL yours bud!

I agree amazing!

Wow! Incredible! I will be over here in the corner trying not to get noticed with my little Charlie Brown Christmas tree and a couple hundred crappy little lights I pretty much cursed my way through getting put up.... Well done Clark, well done!! MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!
