No crimp, this is only necessary for some handgun loads and for military loads (semi/full auto) where the ammo is slammed home by an auto mechanism, they also have to assume the ammo is going to be abused and the bullet needs to have no chance of moving in the case.

Agree with Desert Bull. Shooter is the best app out there or at least out of the 10 or so I have played with. You must shoot as much as possible the more data and the further out you can shoot the better. After you get your real results you make adjustments under the table output to correct the muzzle velocity so that your turret or hold over adjustments align with the table. So far I have mine pretty dialed in out to 750yds and the hits are extremely repeatable. I have tested it at 200, 300, 400, 500, and 750 next will be out to 1K. Once you start having regular hits at the longer ranges you really begin to trust the calculations based on past positive results. I did not get a shot at anything but a spike this year so did not shoot at live game. I did have our party all scope out a rock approx 12" at 750yds at the end of our hunt, I got set up across my pack adjusted for wind and hit it dead center first shot. To the guys that dont practice or understand how to dial in your scope it seem like it is magic. If you practice with good software and equipment it will make you a much better shot. Best $10 I have spent this year.

I agree with this, they are a safety issue. We use the Garmin Rino's so that we can see who is where and not worry about anyone getting lost. In my opinion a must with Jr hunters. As for what is best you get what you pay for... maybe not in power but in durability, features, and clarity. However; the cheap ones are better than no radio.

Nice! I think that first deer is often a better trophy than the biggest one you shoot!

I used to the use the bars and then couldn't find them so I need to order some. The WA bars are better than most anything at REI or the supermarket the nutrient breakdown in them is one of the best and most of their flavors taste pretty good. I have not tried the other products may give them a whirl.

Many manufactures list the recommended twist for their bullets so that you have the appropriate spin to stabilize the bullet. If it is close your gun may shoot well but for a large difference it is unlikely. I would think most on this forum probably hunt with heavier than average bullets for longer shots and that a higher twist rate would be beneficial.

As has been already said pretty much everything is covered already! - Patience is key I see a lot of animals while the rest of our party is distracted with all kinds of other things or is moving around. - I try to sit in the shade if there is shade it is usually more comfortable and masks movement. - Watch other animals, it keeps you from getting bored and a lot of times one animal will cause another to move. - If you have a guy that can't sit still help him plan a hike where you can watch the area around him. It drives me nuts when one of our guys just takes off, it seems almost pointless if there is no plan. - I also take short breaks and close my eyes to keep from getting fatigued.

I know it gets old hearing it but you pretty much get what you pay for. I have a Nikon 800, Bushnell 1000 ARC, and a Swarovski. I think each one cost at least double the one before it but the quality probably more than doubled. The distance the Swaro will work at is pretty amazing with a solid rest. All of them take a little practice to get the most out of them.

Team Realtree, If you have the room the flying pose looks awesome either out of the wall or hung from a high ceiling. Which hunts are you guys on? I have the first weekend in Nov. Just curious who I might run into around the Klondyke area.

Most of mine are duplicates of what others have posted. - missed first bow javalina because I did not knock the arrow. I was on a rock and they actually walked under me, less than 10 feet away. The arrow banged off the rock, seemed like it hit the rock over and over about 100 times as I watched the entire heard disappear into the next county. - Didnt shoot at a 5x5 bull on the last day of my hunt a few years ago. I was waiting for a perfect shot like you see on TV broad side, perfect rest, etc, I also had not prepared myself mentally for having to take quartering shots etc. My guide was VERY unhappy with me as we had hunted really hard for three days and I did not get the shot off. - I also had a buddy shoot before we even started the count down, he got so excited he emptied his gun on a heard of javalina while they were still moving through the trees at around 300 yds. Same buddy also emptied his rifle and side arm on another hunt becasue the pigs were running all around him, never even made a scratch on a pig. He is MUCH better now but I immediatley go into the "take your time", "pick a spot" mantra when we see game now. - last one not picking landmarks before you see game or not having a common language to understand how to spot game. I now know one friend is partially color blind and one guy can't see jack no matter how much time I spend. The color blind guy has made for some of the most frustrating outings you can imagine, now that I know we don't spend time talking about the really green, yellow, red, etc tree and things work well. In the past I have watched deer and pigs just walk away while we argued about which yellow tree they were standing next to only to find out he couldnt really tell is any of them were yellow.

More guns is always fun, go for it! Fire forming is no big deal if you follow directions from an expert. Necking the case down is easier in my opinion just because you dont have to stick a light load & throw away bullet in the case every time and put a round down the barrel. You are not making much of a move from the 270 brass as described above so necking down and trimming that case should be just about like reloading new brass in any other gun. Warning, reloading usually gets very addictive and the number of tools, gauges, and gadgets is endless. That being said it is usually a good cure for the mad scientist in all of us and it adds a little more to the experience you get when taking a trophy!

Hopefully this year it will be this one! I am just finishing up load development and hope to shoot it at 500 - 1000 yds next weekend and see how it does. My previous go to before was a 6x284 or the 300RUM. Very nice! I am guessing it weighed 6lbs without a scope and before it went on steroids!

Old post but I wanted to add one thing, you don't need to have the scope on a specific setting for a ffp mildot. You do need to know what the factory setting is but the mildots can be used with a multiplier on the lower settings. The Vortex PST's have it clearly marked as you lower the magnification, 2x, 4x, etc..

I have a Vortex also and keep waffling on the turrets. In AZ the altitude and temp conditions can be so radically different that it is probably easier to use shooter or print range cards from the Vortex site than be worried my turret is off for the conditions. Of course i may change my mind again.

I agree with all the reasons given on the 7WSM, especially the higher BC's and a bunch of bullet choices. On the 7mm RM suggestion it is something to think about. If you ever plan a hunt in another country and the airline loses your ammo or you somehow forget it the likelyhood of finding factory loads is very hgh, nt so much with the newer stuff. I have a 7mm Dakota and so far the Berger HVLD 180's are looking pretty good but I know there is also a lot of good reports on the 168's. You can get HSM ammo already loaded with the 168's, would be a good way to start and do barrel breakin and you would have some good once fired brass afterwards.

nice rig and it looks like it is starting to shoot well. When you get the redding die you wont have the xpander ball issue jst remember to swap out the ball for the undersized depriming pin holder. You should not need the ball again if you are using fired brass and the neck run out should be very little with just the bushng. After a few more trips to the range you will probably get a little more velocity and those groups will probably shrink a little more. Good luck!

I am in 32 as well, it is a very large unit with many good places. We have hunted the areas off of Klondyke Rd as suggested for over 20 years off and on. I would start with the AZ G&F info on the unit they pretty much list most of the top areas and how to get to them. Good Luck!
