  1. I am looking at what my next rifle project will be and want some feedback. I am either going to do a light 6.5mm or go big and do a .338. for te 6.5 I was looking at the 6.5x55 or the 260 rem. Only reason I have left off the 6.5x284 is I already have a 6mmx284 and getting ammo mixed up could be a potential nightmare. What 6.5 are you shooting and how do you like it? What would you have done differently?

Thanks good to know! Just about everything I have is Swaro but I will eventually break down and get a combo LRF/Bino to simplify things.

Has anyone tested the Swaro EL range against the Leicas? Leica has them in a 15x which could be perfect but I hvae not looked through them.

Let me know if you need more details or some close up pics. The biggest issue was figuring out that you have to do a full reset of the settings on a router and remove all of the security which you don't need when your out in the middle of God's country. The security features are just one more way to trip up the camera link back to the laptop/phone. The batteries you need will be 12V, ~ 1A (mine were 1.2A) camera and router have the same pwr requirements (2 for $18) The Yagi antennas are from eBay, I used the ones inside a tube so they don't get wrecked in the field or in the truck (about $40 per) Router Linksys WRT54G (used one is arounf $30) Camera is TP-Link TL-SC3171 (I paid $90 for mine)

    iPad for checking trail cameras.

I use the Topo Map app and it works well because you can download a section for reference even without cell/GPS service. Other than that it is pretty basic. Which adapter are all of you using for your iPad (card reader)? As I mentioned the one I bought would not read due to "power" so I need to get one that works.

I keep kicking this around as well! I don't think I am going to do it. The 12's are a lot lighter but I have 10's as well if I don't need the extra magnification. I drag around my big spotter as well so if i want to drop weight I can just leave that beast in the truck. Now if they come out with a 12x EL Range my swaro LRF and 15's will be available for sale.

    iPad for checking trail cameras.

I already experimented with an card reader from eBay for my iPad trying to be cheap and wasted $5 on that. I am due for a new phone in a few months and will probably cave and go iPhone since everything else in the house has grown and apple on it. I will be testing the iPad for preseason scouting, hopefully have some pics to post from the new tiny cams.

There are already some on the market, pretty spendy though, I picked up the idea from the LRH site. All I did was make it a lot cheaper, had the router in a box to throw out before I stumbled on to the idea. In the process I learned you could also use a smartphone with a camera if you have cell service but you have to have the phone kind of close and that would be an expensive miss. This is actaully 10-15 feet away from the camera and a BAD miss would cost $100 at the most. I start at 1/10 mil error to the opposite side of the camera for a sighting shot to try and avoid destroying anything. I had too many days in the past where the spotter was only good to about 400-500yds due to mirage in the summer, I have a Swaro 80mm HD and still couldn't see the hits/misses.
  11. Jim I answere this on my phone but I guess it did not go through. I use it on a tripod interchangebaly with my JW head so i am sure it should work. I will watch for them to go on sale on the site. Thanks!

    iPad for checking trail cameras.

Well they have them on eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/Micro-USB-OTG-Memory-Card-Reader-5-IN-1-Samsung-Galaxy-i9100-S2-i9220-/260978890238 My suspicion from reading a lot of forum info is that it is not a plug and play and there will be a software component required, even then it may not work. If there was an easy fix it would be all over the Android tablet forums as it seems like there are a lot of folks trying to figure this out. I pull out the card in my Android phone or camera to view. I will probably start using the new iPad as the screen is way to good to not take advantage of. The next iPhone is spposed to have a larger display which may be perfect, we will see.

    Bobcat with a bow

Nice! Great story sneaking up on a cat!
  14. This is what we started using last year, makes it VERY easy! You can get the little creamers that dont need to be refrigerated if you need cream with your coffee as well. Oh and they will mix with cold water if you want iced coffee.

    Glass Bedding My Rifle

Give it a go yourself! Lot's of YouTube instruction or Brownell's and Midway have how to videos. You can always clean it back out with a dremel tool. If not Van Horn is in Mesa, or Bruno's up in N. Phx (there are a lot of others), just know a gunsmith is going to take at least week in my experience maybe longer depending on what projects they have going so ask when you give them a call.

What are you gunna get this year?

Got it earlier this year! 7mm RM by Center Shot Rifles: Stiller Predator action, McM stock, Brux interrupted fluted barrel, jewell trigger. I put a MK IV ER/T with a Horus reticle on it. I have other customs but this one so far has proven to be outstanding, shot it out to 1K this week and was about 50% for hits in high winds.
  18. Is the slik the only one that will work? I have a small Bogen ball head that has never been used can I make that work?

    Eberlestock packs

The way the EB scabbards work are the best bar none I have a couple. Super solid and it keeps the gun next to your torso so it is very stable, you can get pretty good at a one handed grab to draw the rifle out as well. It is also great to have the option to unzip the pack and open it up so it holds twice as much gear or for packing meat. All that being said I now use a Kuiu pack for overnight or extended stays because it is so much lighter and fits a little better. Still use the EB's for day trips or if I expect to be on the move needing access to my rifle.

    Sunrise Lake

The very small rapala's klll them last year. Power bait works and panther martins usually work as well. Rapala's actually worked even better than the cow bells and ford fenders. The south side of the lake has a lot less people and we caught more fish there. Using the boat and fish finder saw more fish off the last two points on the south east side, that is where we caught most of them and all the larger fish 14"-15" range fish. My message may have been too late, sorry.

    Building a new 338 Edge

Awesome! Can you give me a ballpark what your project would cost to repeat? My next rig is probably going to be an Edge, but it looks like I will have to wait until after this hunting season.

    Best tripod

I don't have an Outdoorsman but they look and feel great. Any tripod can be made quiet with tape, plastic dip (spray can from hardware store), or other creative ways of cutting out noise. You can buy small bags made of netting type material (like divers use) at Walmart and such for weight. They way nothing andare easy to use to hold rocks for weight. I myself rarely feel I have the time screw with all of this since I want to be mobile if required.

    Stop doing business with BofA

American Express and a local credit union are probably the best bets. You could go to Wells Fargo I guess. I am beginning to not like banks in general and there is a lot less need for them now days. Credit Union, Brokerage account with credit/debit card, both have better interest rates and customer service from my experiences. I just thought about the fact that Bass Pro's CC is issued by BofA. Guess they screwed up their gun stance.
