  1. My son got a decent mule deer many years ago -- his first deer.  A taxidermist from St David did the shoulder mount.  He also butchered the animal.  Good job on both. He was the former butcher at Safeway in Benson.  Anyone remember his name and know if he is still around?

  2. I don't always break these rules ... but when I do, I try to break as many as possible.

e.g.  I want to go HAM hunting.  Taking my new AR-15 pistol but I need some help sighting it in and don't have time to do it.  Also, I need a honey-hole to know where to go. I need some ammo and this guy on here had some but it was way too expensive and he would not travel half way to Tucson  Finally, I hope you guys will not be so mean.  I just need a little help.

  3. I so wanted one of these (XP-100ish) until I actually went Javelina hunting with a friend that had a Contender. We couldn't hit a coke can at 20 yrd.  Fast forward 20 years and he talked me into  buying a Contender on this site in .357/.30Herrett.   And again I ended up frustrated and selling it after the javelina hunt.  I really like my S&W N frame.  NOW  I am being tempted with this one -- IT CERTAINLY IS COOL!!!    Good thing you are up in the Phoenix area!  :D

  4. There is no accounting for bad luck, though. I have had one early bull hunt and an antelope before the bonus points were instituted.  I have had one antelope since and no early bull.  If it were not for max points, I may have never been drawn for sheep.

My brother had a bug when we were teenagers…he followed lots of friends with 4wd, went mudding in it, took it just about everywhere. LoL

My first hunting vehicle was a VW Bug turned Baja.  NOT very reliable.  Broke the shocks on the first trip.  Lousy gas mileage (Weber) and no heater.  No AC.  No storage capacity although I did carry a deer out under the front hood.  Way too high a gear ratio for off road.  It was fun cruising Speedway, though.

For the record I've only used my bow and usp45 on a ham hunt. I'd have to strip those "pistols" down to be legal to hunt with. Too much work.

You'd have to strip down the weight just to carry it.

  7. Our daughter got one.  Pretty mild to compare to my Britts but still a puppy -- into everything.  Breeder overfed it and knuckling resulted but seems ok now.  What a chunk of a dog.  Same weight as my younger huge Britt but 1/2 as tall.  Puppies in general are a pain but they are all so cute.  I could not believe the price, though!

  8. A week ago, the forecast was way better rain.  Now around Tucson is very little chance.  Disappointing.  I think they hope for rain.  But my wife always gets upset at me watching the weather forecast and tells me "Those that live by the weather forecast, don't go." And that leads to the other motto:  Best time to go fishing/hunting --ANYTIME YOU CAN!

It's hard to argue with the results.  And that leads to the last idiom:  If you pass up good shots, be willing to go home with nothing.    CONGRATS!  :D

  9. I still like to go down and visit the nice ladies at the counter and figure out who plays good cop and who is the bad cop to avoid.  ;)

It also reminds me to buy a lion tag and bird stamp.  I don't ever seem to have a printer that works or at least has ink.  Theirs, along with the paper, seems to be a little less damaged by inadvertent wetting/washing.
