I hear that is the best of the Gould's tags to get! Congrats. Good luck. You may want to avoid practicing which will educate the birds. I suppose if there was a flock next to houses that you would not be hunting near, I suspect that may be good ones to practice on.

Lots of snow up on top. Perhaps at Strayhorse would be best. Lots turkeys around all the way to Rose Peak.

I recall it not being obvious. I thing it took just a little thumb pressure against the cap and unscrew it count-clockwise. It has been a couple years so I will see if I can find the cap I took off to vefify.

Looking forward to seeing your report.

You would be wise to pattern what you will use to know your maximum effective distance.

Kinda ruins authenticity, doesn't it?

You may want to consider just using a full choke, pattern it, and then stick to the reliable distance or less. Kids will probably only shoot that gun for a year or two and then want to move up to a bigger gun with more distance. I have this super light and short 20 ga single shot that my kids learned on. You had to download the shells as it kicked like a mule with standard loads. Again, greed took over quickly and they want guns with more booms. But now the grandkids are approaching the same age and I am looking forward to that.

Great sky busting for Cranes -- ammo manufacturers will love you.

BTW: there were so few rutting bucks on my buddy's hunt that the wildlife biologist who is now a G&F Manager had to sneak through the fence near Sonoita to go grab some poop that he saw that big buck drop. That buck was ok size-wise but he was servicing 22 does! That section of land down there is the only area I have ever seen that was legitimately post no trespassing on all four sides.

Well up till archery season. By the time the gun season rolls around, you can't get to within 300 yrd. They stopped the gun hunts down there a long time ago. I helped a bow hunter years later and it was a tough HOT hunt. He got eleven shots and no harvest. He was not a disciplined archery but it was a fun hunt. We saw over 100 antelope per day on my hunt in 1990. On his hunt excluding the pet antelope behind the no trespassing signs at the fire station, we did not see 100 antelope the whole hunt. Much better now.

It was a great unit, went to nothing and now has mostly come back. Now I have not hunted that unit for antelope since 1990 but I suspect things have not changed that much except a few more houses. PM me and we can chat.
Any knifesmith's on here? Have a question.

The Lansky and the Work Sharp systems both have you establish the initial angle for their systems with a rather coarse surface and then progress down to a very fine surface. The intial angles would conform and the previous grinding marks will be gone. OR you can just take it to a knive sharpener. There is one at the local farmers market down here in NW Tucson and I suspect the same is true up there.
