    Dear Arizona Game & Fish,

I personally don't want a separate primitive season, I think all the muzzy hunts should be more traditional. No optics or magnification, and black powder or substitute only. They are making muzzle loaders now that shoot smokeless powder and have effective accurate range of 300-400+ yards. That was not the intention of the hunts. If you are shooting one of those high end muzzle loaders you are basically shooting a brassless Ruger #1.

    Dear Arizona Game & Fish,

    1. Muzzleloader should be more traditional. I personally would like it to be a no optic/magnification allowed. Hunt with black powder or black powder substitute only for propellant. 2. Leave the BP system alone. Nothing is better. The old guys waiting 20 years for tags is a choice. They know the game, and chose to play it. Having a shot at drawing any tag at any time with the current system is what makes it fun. Nobody would play the lottery if only the people playing it the longest won. 3. Fix point guard. 4. More officers and better enforcement. 5. Serial poachers should never be able to hunt again. 3 strikes and you are out. 6. More in person hunters safety classes, and make hunters safety or some kind of conservation class a requirement to hunt big game. The class should include info about staying on open roads, firearm safety, common courtesy, ethics, etc. 7. I am sure there are more.

    SOLD-2012 Ram 2500 Cummins

I am glad it isn't a longbed with a stick. I would have to have bought it. Good luck with the sale.
  5. Does anyone have any info for scopes or mounts for a Dragunov that are good quality? A buddy of mine has one with a damaged scope and is looking for something to replace it with. Either an integral style like it had with a decent scope, or a mount setup so he can mount something normal to it.

    Maps???

Flatline maps. Just make sure you have the most recent version. I bought one from a local archery shop a few years ago before my 12AE hunt, and my buddy ordered one direct. My version was older and didn't have all the updated info. I was following my map and ended up on a road that didn't exist anymore. It dropped you down a nasty hill, and once i was down the hill the road was blocked. I made it back up the hill, but it wasn't fun. My buddies version of that map showed it marked impassable. 12AE is an awesome hunt. Congrats on the tag. Scout as much as you can and be ready for anything. It can be warm, it can be cold, it can be snowing, etc. There are nice bucks to be had in 12AE, but don't expect them to be behind every bush. People make it sound like killing a nice buck is easy in 12A. That isn't true. I got lucky and dropped a nice buck opening morning, but we hunted hard for 5 more days to and my buddy ended up settling for a small fork horn, which was the first buck we had an opportunity at since opening day. When the gunshots start, the deer are very good at playing hide and seek.

Table Mesa Road & the Bradshaws

I spent alot of deer seasons and camping trips in the Bradshaw's behind Mayer as a kid. Deer hunt is ok up there. I do love those mountains myself. I spent alot of days four wheeling the westside of table mesa too. It is a fun place. I found some of what had to be old Indian ruins behind mayer about 8 years ago on a Deer hunt. It was at the top of a big hill and must have been a lookout or something. It was a big wall built out of neatly stacked flat rocks. I wish I had spent more time looking at it, but instead I just noted it in my head and moved on looking for deer.

PSA of the day. Highways are for cars...

I saw an article today saying he entered the freeway from an off ramp because the on ramps were shut down because of the protests.
  15. That is my wife's masterpiece. It was a REALLY good chicken pot pie she made for my Dad and I for Father's Day.
  16. You would be correct.

    Weatherby deluxe sporter 270

Vanguard are shooters typically. Nice rifle in a great do all caliber. Someone needs this for a deer or elk hunt.
  18. Not yet. I am going to finish load development and then borrow a chrono to see where the load ends up.
  19. They finally called with the negative results for my COVID test yesterday afternoon so I decided to run to the range today. I had guessed at starting load data for the 131gr Blackjack with H1000 based on some Nosler data for 120gr bullets and my old load for the 115gr Berger. I guess I should have started lower. I started at 66gr and by the time I was at 70gr I was over pressure. The best group of the day though was 69gr and I would say that I am ok with these results. I believe the barrel still needs a little break in but once is seemed to get a little dirty it shot better. The barrel cooler really seemed to help the barrel cool down between strings with the heat today.
  20. Blackjack delivered bullets in record time. I think I ordered on Friday or Saturday and I think they showed up on Monday. Anyway, i loaded some rest rounds with H1000. The closest I can get them to the lands is .02 with the bullet seated as far out as I dare. I also ordered a barrel cooler to help combat the 1000* heat here. Now I gotta get my stupid covid test back so I can go to the range.

    Results up on AZGF Portal.

Officially skunked... No elk, no deer, no turkey. I really thought I would get at least turkey.
  22. I love my Traeger 22. You can get pretty good deals at the traveling roadshow at Costco on them. I got mine at Home Depot on sale at Xmas time 1.5yrs ago. It has been AWESOME. We use it ALOT. I hear good things about Green Mountain too.
  23. Fast twist 270 WSM, 264 WIN MAG, 7 Rem Mag, 6.5 PRC, 6.5 RPM. 156gr 6.5 bullets would be cool to shoot. The problem with the big boomers is barrel life if you like to shoot it. I shot out my 257 weatherby, and rebuilt it as a 257 weatherby again with the idea of shooting the 131gr Blackjack bullets. I dont expect great barrel life, but this time I had the rifle built with a barrel nut type barrel so I can switch barrels fairly easily when I shoot this one out.
