Please welcome AxisWorks LLC as our newest sponsor!

Glad he is a sponsor now so he doesn't have to work under cover anymore. Eric did 2 muzzle brakes for me and they both turned out great. I am probably dropping off another rifle soon to get a brake installed so I can start shooting it too. Eric installed a giant 5 port slabbed muzzle brake on my 300 Win Mag, and it tamed the rifle down ALOT. It is a joy to shoot now.

    7mm Rem Mag Memorial Build

Don't fix it if it isn't broken. I can't group like that at 300 yards, let alone 800. That doesn't look broken to me...

7-08 or something larger with brake.

    New Dozier Hunting Knife

Wow. Good deal on a great piece. If I hadn't bought an expensive knife last year I would jump on this.

    ISO Ruger M77 6.5x55

You really should look at and handle a CZ before you get a ruger if you can find one IMO. I think you will be surprised at the CZ especially if you are looking for a 98 style action.

Get a CZ unless you are stuck on the Ruger.
  10. Like Lance said, rifle mounted tall bipod is a great option. That is what I have. I used it on the shortest setting laying prone to shoot my cow elk a few years ago. I almost got a chance to use it sitting last year fully extended. The 7-08 is completely capable of 300 yards if you put the bullet where it should be. I dumped my cow elk @280 yards 2 years ago with a 257 weatherby mag shooting 115gr burger HVLDs, and my reloads for the rifle are tame, probably more like 25-06 round realistically. I took 2 shots, but the 2nd shot wasn't really necessary which I didn't know until afterword. The first 1 double lunged her, and the second one passed through 1 lung and lodged in the far side front shoulder. The first shot would have done the job, but the 2nd shot anchored her and put her on the ground faster. She only made it about 10 yards past the 2nd shot.

Late 7E Bull - Scout Tips

That's the truth about scouting in 7E for sure. I took my son up last year during the 1 weekend in October without a hunt, and we covered a lot of miles in the truck and hiking. We didn't see a single person for almost a day & a half. We saw a ton of deer, antelope, turkey, and heard a couple bulls bugling, but didn't see anyone. Opening morning the place had trucks on every road.

Late 7E Bull - Scout Tips

The wind last year was the killer part during the late hunt. I have had the late cow tag in 7e the last 2 years. Weather is a big deal. 2 years ago was much colder earlier in the year. Last year it didn't get cold until the the late hunts. The unit was TOTALLY different to hunt based on the weather. I tagged out opening day 2 years ago, and hunted all week last year with tag soup to show. I will say I didn't scout as much last year because I assumed my knowledge of the unit from the year before would help. That was a mistake. What I knew from the year before didn't help a bit other than general layout of the unit. By the time I started to figure it out the hunt was over. The wind will zap your spirit if you are not prepared for it. As the above poster said, there are elk everywhere. Some of the best sign I saw last year was where you would never think to look for elk.

    Need a A/C guy

Here is the rule of thumb. Don't ever call anyone who you have seen their billboard, heard their radio commercial, or seen there add on tv. You will likely be taken for a ride that you won't forget. I have a few guys in town I would trust to work on my house, and I stress A FEW, as in VERY FEW.

    6.5 prc. ????

The companies know that alot of the rounds they develop will fail, or at least not be huge success stories. 6.5 creedmoor fills a nice gap that had little commercial success prior in the 6.5 caliber. 264 win mag should have been an amazing success, but it never caught on. It deserves alot of credit though because it still hasn't faded into oblivion because of how awesome a round it is. 6.5x55 is the same way. It does everything the 260 or 6.5 creed will do and has been doing it for over 120 years. It's downfall is that it doesn't fit a short action and that factory ammo is downloaded because of the old military rifles. That said my next rifle will be a 6.5x55 from CZ. Harley

    6.5 prc. ????

Most of the new stuff doesn't do anything any better than something before it. They just need something to market as the next big thing to help generate sales.
  18. Phoenix Custom Rifle wouldn't do my buddies Marlin Xl7 either. That is when I got ahold of AxisWorks.
  19. Axisworks did my Savage & my buddies Marlin XL7.
  20. My Pandora is fun to listen to. It has quite a range of things. It can jump from George Straight to Pantera to NWA to Jason Boland to __________. I have been listening to more punk rock lately though specifically with Dropkick Murphys, Social D, Rancid, Lars Fredrickson & the Bastards, etc. Harley

    Late cow hunt unit 8

Ready my response in the Unit 10 thread. Same applies here. The one thing I will, and it applies in all units, but especially in unit 8 is get away from the roads. There are tons of road hunters and the farther from them you are the better you will be. Also, don't just scout high in the pines. If it is cold they can and will be down in the junipers.

    Late 10 experiences

What azelkhunter2 said. Cold and windy. Last years cow elk hunt in 7e was just that on a few of the days. It was cutting even heavy clothes. I messed up twice and got my base layer sweaty and I was colder than I have ever been before. I spent a winter in North Dakota working outside so that should say something. 2 years ago started of cold in 7E and warmed up quite a bit through the hunt though. It was in the 50's by closing day. Gotta be ready for anything on those hunts.

Container gardening for a total begginer

Nice garden. I am waiting on my artichokes to make a come back. They were going great this year, and while I was out of town recently aphids ravaged them. I had to cut them way back and work on getting rid of them. They are coming back, but if I didn't have the aphid problem, I think I would have already had artichokes.

    Family camping tent??

Mine is stored in my garage. I have only had it a little less than 2 years, but it is doing fine so far. My garage is north facing so it isn't as hot as some probably get though. I wouldn't store it in my attic, or in a storage shed though because they get super hot. I love my 10x14 Kodiak. For anyone serious about getting a real tent that will last for years, look as spending the money and invest in a good tent.
