    Colorado River Toads Out Early

Just a heads up for yall. My shorthair came in last night messed up. I thought it was a snake at first. I grabbed the flashlight and as soon as I walked into the back yard I see a CO River Toad the size of a plate chillin on my patio. We have had no rain to speak of. I have no idea why it would be out this early. I thought I would give you all the heads ups......Keep your doggies safe! Had my shorthair in a tub of ice and flushed his mouth until 3am this morning. Somehow he made it through the night. Seems good this morning.
  5. I was able to hit Rosey this weekend for the holiday. I took the whole family. It has always been important to me to make sure my kids learn to fish, hunt, etc. on their own. Well, with a 3,6, and 8 year old you have a small window of attention to capitalize. If your not catching fish inside 30 minutes you can kiss your opportunity good by. Pulled into a cove on the salt in on Sunday at 2pm. From 2pm to 7pm we boated over 30 catfish and yellows. I didnt cast a single line! My kids did it all. I was baiting hooks and handing them off. We had double and triple hookups all afternoon. It was awesome. It will be a day my kids and I remember for a long time. All the fish were between 12" to 18" but on 4 pound test, they all were huge!!! HA.

    Puerto Rico Tarpon

To help manage through the agonizing days of not chasing coues through the hills, I decided to take up some Tarpon Fishing in Puerto Rico with the wife. We were actually on our way to a "real" vacation and talked her into a morning of fishing. We hooked into about 20 tarpon in 5 hours. Got about 8 to the boat and 4 in the boat. We also went after some Snook and others. First time to catch Tarpon for me and now Im planning my next trip. Unreal game fish to catch!

    Puerto Rico Tarpon

This was in San Juan. We went out of a marina about 10 minutes from the airport. The guides name is Rafa. His charter can be seen at www.gotarponpr.com Very good guy and put us on fish right away. I havent stopped thinking about it. My research, since being back, is pointing me to the Florida Keys next.....until then, I wonder if there are any Tarpon in Roosevelt? HA.

  9. After 8 years of waiting, I drew a Dec Unit 33 rifle tag, along with my friend justin (GreeneMachine). This has been "the" tag I have been waiting for and was super excited. I spent all of August, September, and most of October scouting. Every free weekend I had, I was on the mountain. I know from personal experience and through the knowledge of others, how awesome the bucks are in this unit. During my scouting I had located 2 bucks at or over 110", another 2 or 3 between 100"-105", and numerous 95"ers. For the most part, I thought I had them figured out and Decemer 14th could not come fast enough. On the Thursday before the hunt Justin and I packed in 3.5 miles into the area we were hunting and set up a bivy camp. We awoke to 2" of snow on the ground and non-huntable conditions. We tried to wait it out but had some gear failer and headed out. Through the first week we dealt with rain, snow, sleet, wind, etc. You name it, we were in it. I am not sure if this affected the deer but not 1 buck we spent 3 months scouting was showing up. Justin tagged out on a nice deer the first Tuesday, but not on a buck we had seen before. (he may post the story and pics later). I proceeded to hunt for the next 10 days. I was seeing 35-45 deer a day and not one shooter buck that I thought was "worthy" of my Dec rifle tag. I have a super supportive wife and family and though not a word was mentioned through the holidays ( I have 3 kids ages 3, 5, and 8 ) I could tell in my families actions that 3 months of scouting weekends and 10 days of hunting was paying a toll. Additionally, I was mentally and physically exhausted. Going 10 days of hiking 3-8+ miles a day and seeing the deer I was seeing without shooters starts to mess with you. I made up my mind Saturday the 29th was my last day. I have family things to do that I need to prioritize and yesterday was it. I could not go any more. I had some help of 2 buddies and we headed out. Yesterday was the first day the entire hunt where I saw real rutting activity. Immediately we were on deer. We located a 95+ buck and I got to 240 yards. As soon as I found him in my reticle he spooked and I did not fire. I decided to chase him (not a good idea) and completely exhausted myself. I looked at my buddies and they knew I was done. 10 days of this had beaten me. A couple of minutes later my buddy Adam locates a small buck on the opposite ridge. I glass him and decide he would do for a last day shooter. I ranged him at 422 yards. I cranked the scope 7 MOA and hold on him. One shot from the 7mag and he was dead before he hit the ground. The rest is history. So this is my "giant" unit 33 december rifle buck. I have shot bigger but there has not been a time in my life when i have worked and sacrificed more for an animal. He taped out 2/8 shy of 80". I would like to think there is an inch for every mile I hiked these last 2 weeks! He's going on the wall so I know every time I look at him what it took to tag out. Several people to thank Justin, Jimmy, Adam, Chris (most or all are members here) and my family. Matt

    Back from Mexico

Made a run to Angostura this weekend and the fishing was insane. Outside of the water being low, everything else was awesome. Boated over 250 fish in 2 days of fishing with 2 partners. Brought back 150lbs of fillets. Big fish was just shy of 8lbs. and we had several other good ones. The stringer below was taken at 9am in the morning, about 3 hours of fishing. We had a 20' stringer each day. Just an awesome trip with good people.

    Back from Mexico

Road going in is still hairy to say the least. I'd have to think its better than normal due to power companies somewhat maintaining them now that there are lines back there but still a rough road. No problems at all crossing the border with the fish. We declared them when were stopped. They popped one ice chest of 6, looked in, and waived us through. Very smooth getting in and out as long as you have all your paper work.

    G/F Tag Pig Down

Justin (Greenemachine), Jimmy (Jimmyc) and I got out Friday morning in 33 and got some stink pigs down. Found them about 11am running a wash. Justin took about a 80 yard shot and mine was close to 35 yards. Cool thing, if you look at Justins pig, it has a G/F tag in her ear. It said "Please call G/F before consuming." Not 100% sure, but Jimmy found out the pig had been tranqualized at some point by G/F and to be safe, you need to call the dept first to make sure the meat is safe. Justin walked up and the Coues skull was 5ft. from the pig. .....anyone else ever shoot a tagged pig like that? Thanks Jimmy for your help!!

    G/F Tag Pig Down

elkhunter, we were right outside of Oracle on the Tucson side. So I guess you could say we were outside of the Tucson city limits. I have not spoke with Justin yet to see if G/F has called him back. I already dropped the meat of to be processed. There was no date on the tag, just the statement to call before consuming.
  16. Just this morning I was out calling and a redtail hawck swooped in and was coming in low and fast on the decoy. Had to jump up and scare it off...ruined the stand to say the lease. Thought it was cool to see the hawk in dive bomb mode though.

    Bear Anarchy

I purchased a carnage as well. Ive owned mathews and PSE bows before...also great bows but when I was in the market last year I shot many and the carnage was it. Awesome speed, no torque and I am a full blown Bear guy now. One thing to note......I had an old school Bear from 10 years ago. i called Bears customer service looking for some help on cams, etc. I have NEVER experienced better customer service. Goes a long way when you need help eventually.

Arizona's Unit 10! Will ROME fall???

After reading this letter from Tim, I am even more dumbfounded on how a "company" who doesnt own land can charge and/or close the access altogether. How is this legal? I also took away the fact that hunters are keeping this ranch clean and closed up. Its the dang ranch itself dirtying it up. This is crazy. Coming from someone whose on the Boquillas 3 or more times a year, this will hurt if the G/F pass this.

    Ruger No.1 in .218 BEE

I have a beautiful Ruger No. 1 chambered in .218 bee. It is topped with a Weaver T10 with super fine crosshairs and target turrets. Rifle is 99%, as close to mint as you will find. The .218 bee is getting much harder to find in these No. 1's. I also have 50 cases of brass. Upgraded wood and a 26" barrel. Asking $1350.
