    My First Buck...

I have been a part of 6 big game hunts since switching to a berger on the reccomendation of a very well known guide who frequents this site. My complaint was meat loss, etc. His response was would you rather lose an animal or a little meat? Talking bullets is like talking broad heads......everyone has an opinion. Shot placement....etc etc etc. With that being said I have either shot or been a part of 6 big game animals, one being an elk, shot with the VLD and each one of them had a hole in them about the size of plum or bigger. I can PM pics if you want to see. No tracking required when you hit them hard with a VLD. Great Buck J. Glad I was there, mostly.

    Black River

In the rivers we were using in line spinners, Panther martins. At the lakes we were using night crawlers. We smoked em off the spillway on show low lake on crawlers. At big lake they were hitting pink powerbait garlic scent. On show low we were using bobbers but on Big we were split shotting. The bite was very good. I suspect if you show up with night crawlers and different power bait you'll find something that works. Good luck!

    Bear Archery Attack Bow

I have a 2010 Bear Archery Attack bow for sale. 70lb limbs, right handed, set at 28" draw right now but its adjustable with the mod on it. Bow is in like new shape. I found a needle head size mark on the riser....see photo. Small set screw marks...see photo. Other than that, I could not locate anything else to note. The strings will need to be replaced in another couple of hundred shots. Asking $275. I am located in Tucson, however I frequent Phoenix weekly. Sorry the pictures are sideways. Turn your head I guess! Matt

    Bergers FAILED me horribly

I'm not married to any bullet. I reload for many firearms and have my favorites for prairie doggin, yotes, pigs etc. I shoot hornady, nosler, bergers, all of them. This is just my experience. I have killed deer with Barnes, nosler both accubond, ballistic tips, and partitions, bergers, SMK...I'm sure I'm forgetting a few. I changed to Bergers 3 years ago on the recommendation of one of the most well known guides in Arizona.....not that it matters but I took advice from someone who sees many more animals killed every year than me. It took some time to get the load right. But when I did both for a 7mm rem mag 168gr and a 140gr 7mm08, the results have been insane. My family has killed 4 deer,1 elk, a couple pigs and not one has gone more than 10 steps. The results have been explosive and I mean explosive. I have photos if necessary. The bottom line is so many factors play a role in a bullets performance. You shoot the same bullet long enough your going to have a bad experience. Especially in adverse conditions and shooting over 400 yards. I love the nosler product. Swear by them. 2 years ago I watched my buddy 10 ring a WT at 300 yards with an accubond. Bullet didn't perform and it took 5 hours to find the deer double lunged. Got up and ran. Took another round to anchor it. Stuff happens. Doesn't mean all accubonds do that. My opinion only. I'll never change my big game round out of a .284 barrel. It will always be a Berger. I've seen too many animals dumped trucked with fist size holes in them to change now.

  15. I am very proud my wife was able to get it done this year on a left over tag. She was fortunate enough to tag a 107" buck in 2012. Last year brought some pain when she missed another very nice buck at 369 yards. During the off season she chose to step down from a 7mm Mag to a 7mm-08. She practiced all summer and felt much more comfortable with the '08. Unfortunately, the week of the hunt there was a death in the family. Instead of hunting, she was attending funeral services. We knew we would only have 3 days to get it done. With only 3 days to get it done, a branched 3X was a shooter. We have some great bucks on trail cam in the area we are hunting, but we just didn't have the time to hold out. Friday yielded a few deer. Saturday evening, once the rain stopped, I glassed a small 3X. My wife looked him over and determined she would shoot him with our time constraints. My wife settled in and made a perfect double lung shot at 249 yards. The buck stop, dropped, and rolled...On a serious note, I switched her round to 140gr Berger VLDs moving at 2845fps out of her setup. The exit wound was something fierce to say the least. I will be moving to them myself, once I have some testing time. We were able to gut the deer and get him off the mountain before dark. We capped the night off with a few cold ones and fried heart. I am very proud my wife put the time in this year after her miss last year. It didn't hold her down. She made a one shot, quick kill this year. The practice time paid off. Not a big buck but more of a validation buck for her.
  16. I had the privilege of helping my best friend on his whitetail hunt this weekend. He is a member on CW under GreeneMachine. This year was a little different in that my family has had numerous hunts and I had to prioritize time with them, gladly so. As a result, this was the first year Justin and I did not share the same tag in over 7 years. However, I was able to get out after thanksgiving and help on the hunt. Friday was largely uneventful. We were in an area we knew holds good deer, however we were just unable to locate any shooters. Justin passed on a small buck. Outside of that, there was no more activity to speak of the rest of the day. Friday evening was the same outside of pigs.....they always show up when I don't have a tag. Saturday morning came and we made a small change in location. Right off the bat we had deer; another buck Justin decided to pass on. At 930am, we changed our focus from SE facing slopes to NE slopes. Immediately we started seeing more deer. Shortly after, Justin located the buck he wanted to take. We were 700 yards from the buck and closed to 365. Justin was set up for the shot. He fired and went right over the bucks back. The buck did not spook. He reloaded and fired again. It looked to be a great shot. The buck was slightly quartered away and the placement was slightly back. I saw the buck dive into a thicket and never came out. We gave the deer an hour before heading over. We got to the location of the hit. No blood, no deer. We started getting that sick feeling. The feeling grew after 2 hours of searching, with no luck, for any sign of blood/deer. Justin and regrouped. It had been 3 hours since the shot. We decided to hike back in the direction the buck had came in from with 30-40 yards of distance between us. It was a good decision. We went about 150 yards. The buck stood up at 40 yards and Justin anchored him with another shot. Amazingly, this buck had a majority of his opposite side lung hanging out the exit wound from the first hit. He survived for 3 hours with the damage. These are tough critters to say the least. As soon as I saw the buck, I knew it was a deer I knew. I have had this buck on trail cam for the last year. We called him Sneaky all year because of how irregular he was....real Sneaky. Although we weren't specifically hunting Sneaky this weekend, we did know he was around and its nice to put a buck on the ground we have pictures of going back a year ago. Sneaky grew in overall spread and G3 length. His G2s are unmistakable as you will see below. Congrats to my buddy Justin. Great Buck. He taped out at 102 5/8". Justin with his buck.

    Desert springs no tracks???

Deer will hit tanks all year and as soon as the rain comes, they do not need to. They are opportunistic. They can get all the water they want without exposing themselves to the risk a tank offers. I have cams up on a few year round water sources and every time it rains the pic count plummets for several days after the rain. Also, I see deer and cattle share space all the time. I wouldn't worry about the cattle. Lastly, averagejpe said it...you sure there is deer in there? Good Luck.

    WTS / WTT XP-100 7BR Leup Scope

Bump. Made some moves on another firearm so now this has to go. Open to cash offers. Awesome long range pistol.
  24. As the title says, I have a Remington XP100 chambered in 7BR with a Leupold 2.5-8x32 scope. The pistol and the scope are close to mint. I only say close because there is a minor rub mark on the butt of the pistol grip, something I did while sighting in. And a extremely minor scratch on the stock. You have to look hard to see. I purchased this firearm from an individual who did not think it had ever been fired. The scope is mint, glass is perfect. I fired the firearm exactly 20 times....to make sure it was sighted in and a few plinking. I place the price of the firearm around $800 and the scope around $400. I do not want to split up. Asking $1,200OBO for package. Will also come with Redding Dies, about 100 cases of 6BR marked brass and carry case...some brass is loaded with 120gr Hornady's. In Tucson but travel to PHX weekly.

The Facts Unit 29 Proposed Archery Season Dates

Imagine what G&F would do if all outfitters were as successful at their job as Wards in regards to Coues hunting down south? Not bashing GF, they have a tough job. Seems to me that mandatory reporting, like other states, is the easiest solution to implement. I want more hunting opportunity like everyone else, however chasing an agenda (if thats truly what GF did) based on Wards success that affected everyone else is nuts.
