Bull Moose along the Snake River Calf Moose Sagerunners Doug~RR

TJ, no fishing on this trip. Some of the streams and rivers on Colorado beckoned heavily for a fly rod though.

After the Wyoming antelope hunt, I took the scenic route back to Flagstaff for the next 10 days. Since the Tetons were only 100 miles away, I started there and proceeded through southwest Colorado to view changing aspens. Unfortunately, a relentless blue overcast sky obscurred the clouds the whole trip. Moonset at Schwabacher Landing in the Tetons. Mount Sneffels reflected in a beaver pond in southwest Colorado. Dan, WY G&F had the wing barrels at the start of some roads. But we did do a pheasant hunt in Utah at a nice hunt club. It was a real good two weeks of vacation.

Nice to have t-shirt weather still It'll be time for those Madison browns before you know it. Hope you catch a bruiser.

TJ, Rica just wandered around and did not feel too photogenic with her antelope

I too thought his body was "piggish". He had the most horn mass and prong length of all the bucks I looked at. The heel of the berger was found under the offside hide- no exit hole. I did no autopsy as he was field-dressed using the gutless method.

Jake, Nice Wyoming dink

Stan, Congrats to your nephew. Hopefully he found how fun antelope hunting is. Doug~RR

On Wednesday, I had the opportunity to hike into and photograph the Wave, an area in North Coyote Buttes on the Paria Plateau. A friend drew a permit for 5 people to this coveted area, so I was fortunately invited. The Wave Reflected light gave the back of this area a glow Sandstone feature above the Wave The Second Wave at Sunset. This was the spot I really wanted to photo yesterday. Doug~RR

Allen, Looks like a pretty antelope with nice horn shape, and nice cape with dark throat patches. Should be a great mount. Doug~RR

Judging from the dates of calving, the peak of estrus is about Oct 1. I would think that your brother will have more rut activity than the archers. Sept 10 seems awfully early for the start of archery elk with regards to rut behavior.

25-06 first centerfire rifle?
Red Rabbit replied to Simple Hunter's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
If you do not handload, you may wish to consider the Managed Recoil ammunition from Remington. It is available in popular chamberings like the 7mm-08, 270 and 30-06. Then step up to full strenght ammo when your son is ready. I would recommend that you get a youth model, or an extra stock to cut down, so the lenght of pull is appropriate for him. Have the trigger adjusted so he does not get in the habit of yanking on it hard. Lotsa 22 practice and dry-firing of his centerfire. -
Looks like quite the sight and must have created a nice traffic jam also.

Congrats Cody, and a thank you to Doug for sponsoring these contests. -
DB, If you have the first rifle deer hunt, it may be a good idea to hunt the fenceline and tanks the first days of the deer hunt.

Nick, Congrats on a nice looking antelope. Yuma to the strip is a long ways to travel, but the reward is sweet. Doug~RR

A very nice looking buck with the symmetry, prongs and curved tips. How high was your frustration level that day considering the traffic, competition and blown stalks coupled with a 13 year wait?

At the end of August, I had a nice sunset from my favorite spot the Paria Plateau. Most of weekend was cloudy, but there was a 5 minute gap below the rain clouds that allowed the setting sun to peep above the horizon. Right after processing the photos, my hard drive died and data recovery could not get this file of photos. But I was able to get them off the deleted SD card. The Weir Fire is about 100 acres in the Rattlesnake Quiet north of Stoneman Lake in 6AN. There may be area closures that may affect the archery elk hunters. http://www.fs.fed.us/r3/coconino/news/2010...weir-fire.shtml

Stan, Best of luck to you on your hunt. There is cell service there, so can we expect you to post nightly updates? Doug

AO, yes it is the same spot. The sandstone in that location is really fascinating to me. I will be going to another spot on the Paria next week.

I hope you have a tag and can ground check him.

The aspens should be changing and the elk bugling at Gibbon Meadow in YNP. Hopefully you can enjoy this September.
