Close to 1000 acres. Looks like there was more activity yesterday judging from the smoke I saw. http://inciweb.org/incident/2118/

180+ Coues Sheds --- You better sit down before you look!
Red Rabbit replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Shed Hunting
The D-Backs could have used this buck the past few seasons . Great sheds to find!!! -
You mightconsider the Minox 3-9 http://www.cameralandny.com/optics/minox.pl?page=66000 John Barsness gives them high marks for sharpness, better than the Conquest and Leupold http://24hourcampfire.com/ubbthreads/ubbth...3_9#Post4363285

For a pack, I would try the Kifaru G2 Longhunter and also a smaller one like the Siwash with cargo chair. I would get a lightweight carbon fiber tripod from Gitzo, a Jim White head and bino eyeguards from Amanda, Leica 1600 rangefinder from CameraLand, Kowa TSN 77 Prominar spotter. For a knife, a 3.5" drop point with D2 blade, spalted maple scales, and mosaic pins. Might even be enough $ left to put a SCA coues tag in the pack's pocket. Just upgrading some equipment with some top of line stuff and not trying to fully outfit myself.

You could go back to camp, eat a big lunch and take a nap. OR, you could sit a wallow and have that big bull leave his bedded cows and come to your mud hole in the middle of the day .

Good looking antelope with nice prongs and what looks to be a dark nose. How did your daughter like antelope hunting compared to other species? Enjoy the rest of the hunts.

Nice cutt and as beautiful as ever. The skeeters were relentless on a hike to Cascade lake one year. Can't outrun em with a full pack either. How long are you staying up in the Yellowstone area?

Maybe Casey will forget to take the Leicas out of the case for you

Not to hijack the thread, but this video is the first that came to mind http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ziNvB-JVi9k

My "Do It Yourself" Bear Hunt.....
Red Rabbit replied to COOSEFAN's topic in Black Bear or Grizzly Bear hunts
Jim, Looks to be a nice bear. Congrats. For the steep uphill/downhill stuff, you might consider one of these on your custom rifle: http://www.snipertools.com/aci.htm Or Leicas new 1600 RF -
At the Marshall Lake gathering last year, 2009, I brought a pair of 8x43ED. Since then, they have come out with the ED2 with the dielectric prism coating and hydrophobic exterior lens coatings. I have since bought a pair of the 7x36 ED2 for elk hunting and archery hunting in the trees. No complaints so far. I thought my 8x43EDs were slightly sharper than the Vortex Razor when tested with a resolution chart. The NIkon Monarch was not in the running against either the Zen or Razor. I have not looked through the new Monarchs to see if they have improved.

That is a Kong for barrels that are dogs. Actually, it is a Sims Barrel Deresonator. Used to change the barrel harmonics to hopefully reduce group size like the Browning BOSS http://www.cabelas.com/p-0033309227667a.shtml

Mike, Congrats on a great velvet buck. Just have TR doe a lifesize with the buck bedded for a nice calm mount. Turn the head so where it is in your room that its left will be showcased. For a shoulder mount, I like a semi-sneak with the offset shoulder. Doug~RR

Capturing Great Mountain Lion Photos with Trail Cameras
Red Rabbit replied to Healy Arms's topic in Mountain Lion
Have you tried the Calvin Klein's Obsession for Men cologne as a lion attractant? Seems there was an article about this about a month ago. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000142405...IGHTTopCarousel -
Dang, first mistake today . Guess I will have to be perfect hereafter

I guess this would apply to setting up and leaving a camp before the season: 261.16(h) Without permission, failing to have at least one person occupy a ($25)/$25 camping area during the first night after camping equipment has been set up. 261.16(i) Leaving camping equipment unattended for more that 24 hours ($50)/$50 without permission.

Congrats on a nice antelope via spotnstalk.

That'll keep the hunt anticipation high.

Tell us about your elk rifle, and cartridge?
Red Rabbit replied to Stray Horse's topic in Elk Hunting
I might have do push the mud-dobber nests out of the barrel before this October's bull hunt HS Precision, 300WSM, 180 Sciroccos, Conquest 3.5-10x44 I have tried loading the Nosler e-tips, but have had inconsistent results. -
Pan head for ease of panning and adjustment. But I would buy the legs separate and get the Manfrotto 700RC2 head as it moves smoothly and is relatively light. http://www.manfrotto.com/Jahia/site/manfro...=80&child=1

Just a few days away until the archery deer season opens. Have a good and enjoyable hunt. If you are successful, take some good photos and take care of the meat and hide. An ice chest full of frozen water jugs, water bottles or 2L soda bottles of water work well to cool the hide (especially put one up the base of the neck/skull) and not get it all wet due to melting ice. Remember that there is no preregistration for the cwt.com coues buck contest this year. But you do need to be registered on the forums before this Friday if you are an archery hunter. http://forums.coueswhitetail.com/forums/in...showtopic=20199 Doug~RR

Tony, Chris did a nice job and that ibex will look great (wherever you can find a space on the wall ). Thanks for the closeup photo to help look at the work quality. Doug~RR
