Nice haul. Just a few belt buckles laying in the grass. RR

When scouting, don't forget to take the varmint rifle for the coyotes you'll see. Make a couple calling stands. Momma and the fawns will thank you.

With a full tank of gas and plenty of cold water, take the Willaha Rd off 64 and drive west to Tin House, to Long Point, Rose Well and come out at Pica Camp north of Seligman. There should be a spot along there with antelope worth considering. Also check the draw north of Pica below the Aubrey cliffs.

ANOTHER F'd rifle came from UPS!

Casey, Where does this stand? UPS' position? Doug~RR -
Hopefully a lot of elk and deer will be going "to" Payson this fall and not "through" Payson. Good luck to you in the new business.

The winners choice should not twist. Ditch the rubber tubing before it breaks and snaps you in the eye.

Long range, starting from scatch
Red Rabbit replied to Coach's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Lots of great info here, if you have not spent hours reading it already. http://www.longrangehunting.com/forums/ Have fun in UT, and don't forget to post some photos of the fish and slots. -
That model may have been replaced by the Manfrotto 055XB. Adorama has a used 3221 for $79, without tripod head. Check ebay also.

Kowa Spotter VS. Swarovski Spotter
Red Rabbit replied to SuperiorBowHunter's topic in Optics and tripods
The new Swaro spotters have a magnesium body instead of aluminum (saving only about 2 oz) and improved lense coatings. The "swarovision" applies to the binoculars. http://swarovskioptik.com/en_us/press-releases/168 -
With Hurricane Alex slated to enter Mexico just south of Brownsville, TX, will this bring a push of moisture into AZ to kick start the monsoons? What's the word from Tucson and Phoenix weather gurus? RR

It's very windy today and sounds like it has potential to grow fast. Hopefully the tankers can squelch it. http://www.wildlandfire.com/hotlist/showthread.php?t=13976

Traveler, Nice horn configuration with the heart-shaped curl and "ivory" tips. Have another good hunt in WY. Doug~RR

While looking for elk, I noticed this gobbler making a rub on a small sapling. I had always thought these to be made by inferior buck deer, but alas, I now have a new secret way to locate gobblers beside looking for tracks, drags and droppings. (Well, not a secret anymore since I told y'all.) Another of the group of three gobblers on his way to making a rub. Doug~RR

Looks like y'all have a pretty nice mule deer in the bunch also.

For the 6.5 caliber I used a 130 Scirocco from 6.5WSM for antelope, and carried it for coues the last few years. I had it twisted 1in9 for the 130 bullet length. Have not tried the 140s to see if they stabilize. I had a 260 Rem (similar ballistcs to the Swede) and used a 129 Hornady SST on a UT antelope and also carried it for coues one year. A friend used his 260Rem and one 120TSX to kill a bull elk at 400 yards. I never tried a 140 in my 260.

I am not seeing a floorplate in the photo, so looks to be the 700 ADL with the laminated stock.

For 15x long range glassing in your budget range, I would definitely choose the Minox 15x58 over the 12xMonarchs. For 10x, there are many more choices in your price range. For a first and only set of binos, I would consider 10x over 15x as 10x would be more versatile in more types of terrain.

Excited Here! Drew a unit 64 antelope tag. Supposed to be one of the better units .

Kowa Spotter VS. Swarovski Spotter
Red Rabbit replied to SuperiorBowHunter's topic in Optics and tripods
At the Outdoorsman, you should be able to set them on tripods and look at mountains from the outside front porch. Short drive for a valuable comparison for a big $ purchase, imo. -
Brian, it would also explain that blood- red, rubbed-raw color

Kowa Spotter VS. Swarovski Spotter

For that outlay of $, I'd be inclined to compare them directly, head to head. Here are the 4 AZ dealers from Kowa's website. Hopefully the Outdoorsman has some. Outdoorsmans 10004 N. Cave Creek Rd.
