The late October rifle bull hunt was put in by G&F as there are reportedly some extra bulls skewing the bull:cow ratio . I found them for you lucky tagholders . Looks to be one nice bull.

Thanks Kent for the filedepot info, I just got the 60csx also on sale, but have not played with it yet. Doug~RR

Guess one could partially lay the blame on Tucson SWCBD. But I have never read the Daily Scum paper to lambaste one of these groups, so not expecting it here either. http://azdailysun.com/news/local/article_b...2ba0ab0073.html

Started about noon near Shultz Pass. Growing quickly. Air Tankers grounded due to high winds.

The almost full moon was rising last night as the sun was setting. Hoped to get a reflection shot of Cathedral Rock and the moon. In August, the moon will crest over Cathedral more over the center. This time in editing, the sharpening was done after resizing, as opposed to before. See if it makes fora sharper image with the web compression. Before moonrise Moon and Cathedral Reflection

How does it shoot now? Group size and shape? First shot out of a cold bore hits the same as the next ones in a warm barrel? If it shoots just OK but not great, you might have it glass bedded, trigger adjusted and barrel recrowned for starters, before considering rebarreling. Out to 400-500 tards. a reticle like the Zeiss Conquest RapidZ 600 or 800 would work well, as would Leupold's B&C reticle. 4.5-14x magnification would be optimum, imo

Went back this Friday evening to capture the moon closer to dusk from a greater distance away. I wanted to get the moon through the blue and pink horizon that occurs at dusk. I had to touch up a dark ring around the moon alot.

You should still be able to see their pedicle or the first bumps of rapidly growing velvet.

There should be a review done in June 2009. They were compared at the Marshall Lake gathering last year. Also search opticstalk.com Kaibabs are the next best to the Swaro 15x and Leica 10-15x Duovids.

Most of the good units needed 19BP or more to get in the 20% pass for the 2010 draw. Even Unit 10 was 19 or more, as it was 2 years ago when I drew a tag in 18. So I would hold out a few years, as you've waited all these. You might get in the last of the 20% pool in 3 years allowing for some point creep. Keep track of Eli Grimmett's blog. http://www.pronghornguideservice.net/blog.html

Unit 10 may still be tops, but 18BP won't put you in contention to be drawn for several years. Look at the bonus point reports on G&F to compare units. Take the 22-250 while scouting and get some vermin to help out the antelope fawns.

Thanks for looking and commenting. In a few weeks, the monsoon clouds will hopefully grace the skies in the area. Hope to get some good ones then. Looks like these have some processing squigglies in the sky next to the rocks.

Gotta cut back on the caffeine . Besides the jitters, it'll keep you up all night so all you can think about is the draw.

Float tube. I have heard that the gate on the dam end is wide enough to allow an ATV, but I have not been there.

From this morning's paper http://azdailysun.com/news/local/article_c...ed17d6e079.html "The main entry road into Lockett Meadow had been burned over as far north as Forest Road 418 by Tuesday, and fire pushed high up the east side of Doyle Peak, one of the San Francisco Peaks, reaching to within a fraction of a mile from Doyle Saddle. One flank of Sugarloaf Peak (next to Lockett Meadow) had also burned, and the fire had grown to nearly 22 square miles as of Tuesday at a firefighting cost of $978,600 and growing. Worst-case scenarios projected the Schultz fire would grow to 24,000 acres -- or 38 square miles -- which would be the largest single wildfire by far ever recorded in the Flagstaff area, and cost $8 million to fight. Access and setting firelines on the fire's western edge promises to be problematic, as the fire is already uphill from Waterline Road on the west, the road used by the city of Flagstaff to maintain its Inner Basin wells. The Weatherford Trail is not promising as a fireline, Hughes added."

You can call these: Coconino County Humane Association (928) 526-1076 Second Chance Center For Animals (928) 526-5964 - 11665 N Hwy 89, Flagstaff, AZ, 86004 KAFF radio may still be doing a lost pet report (928) 779-5151 You will need a better desription of the dog and collar, and exactly where your parents were camped. Maybe a recent photo of the dog. Was the dog chipped?

What did you do? Decide to hunt the OTC in Montana?

Mark, How about this? The area on the south side of the peaks has permanent "no campfire" restrictions to protect the peaks. If the Schultz Pass area was determined to be a threat decades ago, why no permament restrictions there? Lest we forget groups like Grand Canyon Trust, Sierra Club, Forest Guardians, Southwest Center etc who have opposed many thinning projects and sucked up USFS budget in court. From the AZ Daily Sun: "The topography of Schultz Pass tends to exacerbate these winds, acting like a chimney, and making it a past priority for thinning. Firefighters and some people living in Timberline have long seen the pass as a problem area, and it received some renewed attention during the 1996 fire season, when the Hochderffer and Horseshoe fires north of the San Francisco Peaks burned a total of 25,000 acres. "This is a fire that we've talked about for 30 years," Summit Fire Chief Don Howard told an audience of the public gathered at Coconino High School on Monday night. "We knew it would happen -- we always hoped it wouldn't happen -- due to this pass' ability to push wind." http://azdailysun.com/news/local/article_3...a6f460d490.html

Bownut, Do a search here on cwt for the Carmen Mtn deer. Thread is probably 4-5 years old. Good info too in addition to what Bill wrote. Doug~RR

Fire Restrictions The Coconino will implement fire restrictions on Wednesday, June 23. Due to high very fire danger, these restrictions are deemed necessary to protect public health and safety and prevent human-caused wildfires. The restrictions will prohibit fires, campfires, charcoal, coal or wood stoves outside of developed campgrounds and limit smoking to within enclosed vehicles or buildings or in developed campgrounds. Pressurized liquid or gas stoves, lanterns, and heaters meeting safety specifications will continue to be allowed.

Fire investigators have determined the cause of the 10,000-acre Schultz fire to be an abandoned campfire near Schultz Tank and Elden Trail. http://azdailysun.com/news/local/article_8...1cc4c002e0.html
