AZGFD kept my money

I had contemplated going to Lake Powell, but the lack of spring winds decided that this area on the Navajo Rez needed to be taken advantage of. I spent the midday walking arond on various points to see where I would like to be for the evening shoot. Lots of pinnacles, fins, and gulleys to see of various colors. Reminded me a little of Bryce Canyon in Utah. After sunset from the rim-side camp In the morning, I walked along the eastern rim. With lots of white, I had difficulty with the exposures and blew out the highlights in many images. With the morning light over, I drove a few miles south to the next canyon of many washes that is wider and with a different composure. This would be a nice morning shoot, but it was already 9 am and the light was getting harsh. The road into the area was through lots of clay, and if wet, the steep hill driving to the canyons would be formidable . The next canyon to the south on the other side of the road held some promising locations for the evening, so I read and napped midday until the sun descended. This canyon was more like the first canyon in some places with the orangeish fins. Doug~RR

Thanks for looking and commenting. Youngbuck, just use your point and shoot on a steady support, use the first and last hours of light, consider your composition and "rule of thirds", and have fun. Most cameras lenses will be sharpest at about f/8, so use aperture priority, not automatic, for landscapes.

http://fs.usda.gov/wps/portal/fsinternet/&...mp;pname=Kaibab National Forest- News & Events Travel Restrictions To Be Lifted on Tusayan Ranger District Date: Apr 13, 2010 Tusayan, Arizona Contact(s): Tusayan Ranger District, (928) 638-2443 TUSAYAN, Ariz. – Due to drier and safer conditions, forest managers will lift all motor vehicle travel restrictions Friday on the Tusayan Ranger District of the Kaibab National Forest. The road closures, which largely affect the area east of state Highway 64, were implemented due to wet, muddy and hazardous conditions that created public safety and resource damage concerns. While all motorized travel restrictions will be lifted as of Friday, motorists are cautioned to avoid any remaining patches of snow, ice and mud. Visitors to the Tusayan Ranger District can contact the district office at (928) 638-2443 for additional information and specific road conditions

There are lots of choices for hunting packs out there and we all have our favorites. But don't forget to choose a pack that fits your torso and then adjust it properly, load it right, all for your comfort and stability. Cuz if it don't fit ya, it's not the best pack. Jeremy, Glad to hear this is going to happen for you and wish you plenty of success! Doug~RR -
Brent, My parents used to work with Hamilton stores in Yellowstone after the retired, and suggested I work there in the summer to earn a few dollars to supplement my meager teaching income while affording a chance to flyfish YNP. I thought that is was better to just fish and not have a summer job RR

Scottyboy, Did you hear anything about this? http://gvnews.com/articles/2010/04/13/news...urveyor0414.txt

Those pic's were taken here in Az down south on a horseback riding trip. I saw those pics before and the story was they were outside of Kingman. Another story had them elsewhere.

Sure it did not cross-breed with a Ptarmigan? Neat finds for you, both sheep and hawk.

It was a 5 second exposure. ISO 100, f/18, 3-stop neutral density filter and also polarizing filter. Tripod mounted. The sun was going behind some thin clouds as it set, so that helped also.

The Little Colorado River is still flowing above 1100 CFS, so I took a Sunday drive to Grand Falls again to get some photos from different angles. The afternoon started sunny, but the late afternoon clouds arrived to the west with the latest front. There were a few gaps though for the sun to peak through near sunset. Doug~RR

A photographer friend here in Flag had not been to Grand Falls, so we left late yesterday afternoon to go capture some of the evening light on the falls. When we arrived, the shadow was just creeping up the bottom of the falls. With the river flowing about 2000 cfs, there was also lots of mist to create rainbows in the sunlight provided by the clear skies. Doug~RR

Ultra300, Are you taking an early retirement this fall to get all of these hunts in? I imagine the desert bighorn will require a lot of ground time. RR

They should be mailed out by the 23rd. If the tags are hitting the mailbox now, the refunds should follow shortly.

Bog Pod shooting sticks.....switcheroo or other head?
Red Rabbit replied to flyingbrass's topic in Optics and tripods
Schmitty, That is where I am at right now. I have the Claw epoxied to an extra mounting plate for the 701HDV, and leave it clamped to the rifle. I have found the Claw to be steadier when sitting than Steady-Stix, Pole-cat tripods, and Harris bipods. FlyingBrass, You might look into a carbon fiber tripod. Some like the Adorama Flashpoint and Velbon ElCarmagne do not cost a leg. RR -
http://fwpiis.mt.gov/content/getItem.aspx?id=42208 (I used a shorter link, but it may still take a few moments to download) See page 10 in the above regs. Motion-Tracking Devices and/or Camera Devices It is illegal for a person to possess or use in the field any electronic or camera device who’s purpose is to scout the location of game animals or relay the information on a game animal’s location or movement during any Commissionadopted hunting season.
