  4. Yes, the permits are valid for the entire unit. As written on the G&F leftover list, both tribal and non-tribal members can apply.
  5. The 2010 Deer and Sheep Hunt Guidelines with permit numbers that will be presented to the commission Sat April 17 are available online. http://www.azgfd.gov/pdfs/h_f/huntingrecom..._memo_final.pdf
  6. couesdiehard posted this info in another thread about the origin of the Hopi hunts. http://azgfd.net/artman/publish/NewsMedia/...t_printer.shtml Per Region 2 office, the leftover Hopi permits are valid unit wide and not limited to just Hopi lands.

    Bullet drop compensating scope?

rclouse, I think you will find the Conquest to have better optical clarity than the Burris, Nikon and Leupold. You will not gain much going from 9x to 10x. If you are going to use the BDC reticle, then chances are you will be shooting a longer range and have time to set up well, and that is where the 14x magnification may be nicer, but 9x will certainly work. The prices on the Conquest 3-9x do make them a good value. RR
  8. Jim, Opportunity, not a curse, is knocking. Hatbands, belt buckles, "chicken" dinner. And you may be preventing a kid or his dog from getting bit by making the rattler into dinner. RR

2010 Deer and Sheep Hunt Guidelines

Why would they be upset? The 15s had been declining severely and is nice to see a positive change. Also the expansion into 6A becoming a huntable population. In 1995, there were 111 permits; 97 proposed this year.

    breaking in new rifle

Scott, I hear the best rifle scabbard for those LR rigs is the "mule". Friend just got a 7RUM Sendero and won't fit the Eberlestock scabbard with a bipod attached. Doug

    Bullet drop compensating scope?

The NRA magazine, July 2009 American Hunter, did a decent reticle comparison last year, The Rapid Z in the Zeiss Conquest came out best. The B&C in Leupold was good too. The Rapid Z and B&C also have windage allowances. The Nikon and Burris came in next to last. The Nikon aiming circle is 2 moa, which is a 10" circle at 500 yards, not conducive to best accuracy. Minox has a new scope with a BDC reticle. Ask Doug at CameraLand http://www.cameralandny.com/optics/minox.pl?page=66020 You can also get the rapid z on the Pride Fowler scopes, designers of the Rapid Z http://www.rapidreticle.com/600lr.htm

    Bull and Cow Elk Calling

They look more informative than the average hunting video these days, which are seemingly all entertainment and no substance. That month before the October season should be a good time to scout and locate the bulls in 8 and apply the info from these DVDs. It will be interesting how many applied for these October hunts. tripod for my binos

For small and light, there is the Slik Sprint Pro and the Velbon LUXi-L. They both have adjustable leg angles (do not get a cheap plastic tripod with the braces to the center column). The Slik has flip lock leg adjusters, while the LUXi has twist lock legs and stiffer legs. For a light head I like the Manfrotto 700 RC2. For a mid-duty mid-cost tripod, there is the likes of the Velbon Sherpa, Manfrotto 190XB, Slik DX700 AMT, Velbon ElCarmagne, Adorama Flashpoint CF For many more bucks, there is the Outdoorsmans tripod, Gitzo, and other carbon fiber tripods. Higher quality heads include the Jim White and the Outdoorsmans. If you go to a camera store website like Adorama or BHPhoto, you can get the specs for various models. Buy through and support CWT sponsors like Amanda's store, Jim White, CameraLand NY, Outdoorsmans, etc. seen on the home page http://www.coueswhitetail.com/

    BACKPACKING BOOTS OPINIONS NEEDED

Chris, I noticed that Zamberlan is carried by REI, but the model you noted is not on the REI website. Still may have to go over and see what REI has to try on when I am in Phoenix this weekend. Doug
  19. With the good snowfall this winter, Marshall should be good as will Lower Lake Mary. G&F has already stocked trout into LLM and has more planned. Doug~RR

Since I drew a Bull tag.....

I suggest using premium gas. If running a diesel, I have had the best luck with the ultra low sulfur A gasoline powered truck will be "California Condor Safe and Approved", as it uses unleaded. But really , since you will be gone to Africa before the hunt, have you considered hiring a good guide
