WHY I WON'T GO TO MEXICO

For a sense of sobering perspactive: The number of live births in the US in 2005 was 4,138,349. The number of abortions in the US in 2005 was 1,206,200. Seems that being an unborn in the US is about as dangerous as it gets. 1 out of 5 will be killed.

WHY I WON'T GO TO MEXICO

The Mexico number given was for drug-related murders. What is the number of US drug-related killings (not overall total of all murders)?

Draw results will be out June 30. Hoping for 64 or 93. I don't know what to expect for draw odds for unit 93 second choice if first choice is not selected.

Rica has 0 BP for quail...Guess she was drawn again, lucky dog
  9. Chris, A friend has a black and bright red felt trim around his black bear from Canada. Looks obnoxiously loud and he has folded the red trim back. My rug has black inner felt and brown outer felt. The bear is very dark brown with a brown back. An all black bear may look good with black and dark grey felt. Doug

    Minox Riflescope Introductory Special

Doug, How do the Minox optics compare to the Conquest and Leupy VX3 in term of sharpness and edge-to-edge? Are the elevation adjustment dials under the caps readable from the side in that they could be used as turrets? The combo price is a great way to also get a 15x Minox for less than your already great price. Doug~RR

Is that a PETA protest picture? The end guy with the "pichers" sign looks like he could use some meat in his diet.

    kimber 22-250

Brent, I have one, 84M Varmint with the stainless fluted barrel. It is a 1-14 twist, so likes 50 grainers better than 55s. 60 grain Partitions will keyhole. It is a 1/2-3/4 inch shooter for 5-shot groups, as was another Kimber I shot different loads through. Casey/firstcoues also has/had one. His shot a little better, closer to 1/2 inch. 53 gr TSX should be good for coues and antelope. Scottyboy's friend shot a coues at 390 yards with that bullet from a 223 WSSM (similar to 220 Swift). I have shot many TX whitetail with 55 gr Sierras from another 22-250, but most were under 100 yards to the neck. Kimber triggers are easy to adjust, and I like the stock ergonomics. The regular 84M would balance well, the varmint model is front heavy due to the barrel. No problems feeding from the magazine. http://www.kimberamerica.com/products/rifl...4m/84m_varmint/ Doug~RR

    GRAND FALLS

Amanda, Since the LCR flows are short-lived, I opted to shoot the falls rather than make a poppy trip as I talked to you and Paul about. Guess the flows were about 1300 yesterday. Sitting in the truck at the top of the falls, you could feel the vibrations from the waterfall and wonder if you had actually turned offf the truck's engine. I imagine that the poppies will be withered by Easter weekend, but the brittle brush should be flowering. Hope to make it to Lost Dutchman Park for sunset on the Superstitions Easter weekend. If you need a basketball or spare tire, there were a few at the base to choose from. Doug

    Turkey Hunting

Access may be an issue this year for the high country. There is still 1-3 feet of snow on the forest floor and especially north slopes. Last year in 6A, the gates did not open till the week before the season. There is more snow this year than last, so be reasonable in your expectations. This is off Lake Mary Road today.
  16. Tried again to find some cooperative waterfowl this morning down in Pumphouse Wash below the meadow. A pair of mallards and the morning ice were there. I'll get a close-up of a duck sometime in the right light. The Little Colorado River is flowing, so it's off to Grand Falls near Leupp this afternoon.
  17. Thanks. tis a long time till duck season, so figure one needs to put a little wood on the fire to keep it warm, so to speak. RR

    Crushed shoulder

If it's just little dimples from too much lube when resizing, I'd would have just fired them as loaded and the dimples come out, just like fire-forming. Or did you push the neck down into the shoulder? Put a little (few drops or so) used motor oil down into the case to ruin the primer.

    Bryce Canyon Utah-

I made what was going to be a three day weekend to Bryce Canyon NP in southern Utah. Friday was forecast to be sunny, and then a snow storm was to come in Saturday and Sunday. I figured if it was to be broken clouds possible with the predicted 30% chance of snow, broken clouds and patches of sunlight would have made for some nice photos. Friday dawned with clear skies that allowed a morning sun to light up the amphitheatre seen from Bryce Point. The orange spires against the white snow reminded me of Creamsicles. Broke out the new Nikon 300mm f/4 and scoped in on some formations seen below. The lens seem sharp and should make using it enjoyable, especially for wildlife. With the sun rising fast, the nice morning light gone and tour buses now arriving, I spent the day stopping at other viewpoints and planning the evening an next morning. Friday's sunset at Sunset Point held a few images. I was hoping the sun would appear before the storm arrived as I drove into the Park to Sunset Point. However, Saturday morning began with overcast skies and the sun never peaked beneath to illuminate the amphitheatre. Took a few photos just in case, and then took a hike down amongst the HooDoos from Sunset Point, around and up the Navajo Trail through Wall Street. The overcast prevented any harsh shadows and extremely bright snow for difficult exposures, but made for a yucky white sky. Thor's Hammer Twin Bridges Looking down Wall Street With up to 7" snow forecast for Saturday and Sunday, I bagged the Sunday morning shoot due to a likely sunless sunrise and raced the windy front back to Flagstaff. Shooting in the snow was difficult with lots of images being deleted after being taken. Even if the histograms looked OK and to the right, many of the images had snow that was way over-exposed. Perhaps I should underexpose more to leave room for the snow's highlights. Doug

    Ain't it draw time yet

And when the elk results do come out near the end of the month, the only scouting that can be done is e-scouting as the roads will still be closed and blocked by snow banks. Those guys that left/abandoned their camps from the Nov elk hunt will have camp all ready come this year

    Cabelas Ultimate Alaknak Tent

How about a canvas Sheepherder tent? Bout the same $ as the synthetic Alaknak, but likely without the condensation problem being canvas. Pellet stove conversion if you don't want a wood stove and cut wood. http://davistent.com/html/HerderTent.html But seems a regular wall tent with 5' walls would give more headroom inside instead of a single peak like the herder or alaknak

    20x Binoculars

Nope. Several years ago on a sheep hunt, i looked through some Cabelas 20x, but was unimpressed with their clarity, as was with some Pentax PCF. You might check the birding sites or astro/star sites for their talk. http://www.cloudynights.com/category.php?c...=61&pr=2x48 For near 500 bucks, I would go with the 15X Minox from Cameraland, and have some resolution to distinguish between a rock and a deer.

swaro 15X56 SLC or Vortex Kaibab

When we compared the Kaibabs and SLCs to each other at eh Marshall Lake campout, we found a slight resolution (1/2 block, iirc) in favor of the Swaros. The interocular distance was also noticed, favoring the Kaibab for a closer adjustment. Here is another good review on OpticsTalk http://www.opticstalk.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=20729 I would not hesitate to buy the Kaibabs and put the extra money saved towards an out-of-state hunt.
