Feb 15 is the deadline to have your entry in for the coues buck contest. You must have registered/signed up last fall before the hunts started. If you were were successful on your hunt, please be sure to have posted your hunt story in the forums and have emailed me your field photo and link to story. You can look through the photos above in this thread to see if I have your buck entered. Thank you. Doug~RR

The Zens have 30 day return policy, so if you do not like them (which I doubt will be the case), you can ship them back for a refund. You can order directly from Zen-Ray. I do not know of store-front retailer that carries them yet. http://www.zen-ray.com/store/index.php?mai...products_id=252 You can also order from SWFA http://swfa.com/Zen-Ray-Zen-ED2-Binoculars-C2703.aspx I believe Doug at CameraLand posted recently that he was trying to get set up to sell Zens.

Bleaching Skulls?
Red Rabbit replied to azcouesandelk's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
You can also get a whitening agent at the beauty supply place to go with the HD peroxide. Some wrap the skull after applying so it does not dry so quickly. Wear gloves and safety glasses. Do a search on taxidermy.net -
I'd take the Zen ED2s over the Vortex Razors. I did a direct comparison and chose the Zens. My review is in a past post.

Looking for a gunsmith for trigger job
Red Rabbit replied to BeardownAZ's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
You might try Dons on East McDowell in Scottsdale. -
Scary and sobering event. Did the pellet break the orbital bone that there are bone fragments to contend with also? Were you wearing any blaze orange? Prayers for you and your surgeon.

Let's see some photos of your first big game animal for each specie.

Youngbuck, Nice pair of elk for firsts.

I did not start hunting until after college and I moved to south Texas in the fall of 1980. Prior the that I only fished.

Yeah, had to leave the Grecian Formula behind on that trip because of airline baggage weight concerns.

Jay, Kudos on making a great adventure with friends and family, and an excellent post!!! Doug~RR

No canoeing/rafting is allowed on the Black between the WMAT and SCAT. You could use a WW canoe on the day stretch below the SRC bridge.

I caught a fakespy virus from Photobucket Saturday morning while trying to post a sunset photo on TAH.com. Virus blocked my free Avira and Malwarebytes programs, access to the internet and the computer's system restore. When I got rid of the virus yesterday, I found that it had put a proxy in my computer so I could not link to the internet, even though the Internet provider said my connection and modem showed working and a ping with the ISP gave all 4 working responses. The local computer shop that noticed the proxy said to ditch Avira and use Microsoft Security Essentials for a free anti-virus program. A google search for photobucket virus shows many having recent problems, along with facebook & myspace. I used PB yesterday again with no problem. Doug~RR

I really really like Mexico...
Red Rabbit replied to Coues Sniper's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Mexico
Two nice bucks! Cool dagger/drop/sticker. Can you see any remnants of a break during velvet on the right side right above the brow tine? Doug~RR -
Troy, Have a good day, and maybe get a birthday bobcat with your bow. Doug

Jeff, Not sure on the first focal plane as I have not seen one, but I think that as the reticle increases in size with magnification, it continues to cover up as much of the target, which could be a problem with distant targets. Maybe 308nut or someone else has seen a ffp scope to give an opinion. I thought Gino got a huskemaw, but don't know if it's ffp. Doug

Aside from the vintage 2007 soup, your group is doing well at adding meat to the broth. Welcome.
-
In a first focal plane scope, the reticle increases in size along with the image as the magnification increases. Thus a BDC type reticle can be used at any power. In the second focal plane scope, only the image increases, not the reticle, as magnification increases. Thus a BDC reticle is calibrated to one certain power, usually max. Most US scopes are 2nd focal plane.
-
With a turret to dial and adjust the reticle, you can use any power. With a ballistic type reticle like the Boone and Crocket, BDC, TDS, you have to be on maximum magnification for most models. The new Minox may require the power ring to be set at a less-than-max power with their BDC reticle.

Sehr Gut! I like the buck's rust colored forehead also.
