Out of my 6.5 WSM, I found the accuracy of the 130 Accubonds, Scirocco II and Berger VLDs to be real close to each other. Some say to seat them real close to the lands for accuracy, others have found to seat them away like the TSX. You may have to play some. Here is an article on the hunting use of VLDs, which I have posted before. http://www.riflemagazine.com/magazine/PDF/hl248partial.pdf

Could have been a bird or a bat, or a fast critter that moved through before the camera went off. What kind of activation and trigger time does your wildview have?

Looking west from the Red Rock exit on I-10 south of Picaho Peak, I see a very jagged mountain that I would like to photograph. Is this Ragged Top and Wolcott Peak, NE part of the Silver Bells? Would the best way to get there be west from the Red Rock exit on Sasco Rd? Any access issues that you know of? Map looks like it is BLM. Doug~RR

End Chukar Season On High Note
Red Rabbit replied to Chukar Plucker's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
A good ending will make you look forward to the next season opener with Jager. He probably learned a lot this season. Are those chukars in the proverbial devils country of steep sides? -
LOST MY BEST QUAIL HUNTING PARTNER

Jim, Sorry to hear that Abby passed and leaves a void within you. What happened with her? Doug -
While driving out from this last weekend's mearns hunt, three coues (2 does and a yearling) were watering from a puddle in the road. They showed no concern about the truck or me when I got out. The paralleled the road and I was able to get some close photos from 10-20 yards away. Surprisingly, Rica behaved and did not jump out of the truck with the open door. Doug ~RR

Somehow I drew a permit for the first season Goulds hunt near Parker Canyon Lake.

A few delays getting out of Flagstaff and Phoenix traffic prevented me from getting to Ragged Top Friday evening for sunset, but I drove out Sunday afternoon ont eh drive back home from the mearns hunt. Lack of clouds prevented any possible sunset, so a drive to teh northwest side gave a late afternoon view before the shadows from the Silver Bells were cast on the foreground. Seems the peaks lend themselves better to a sunrise shot from the east side to capture their raggedness. Next trip to photograph them will likely be later in April before the Goulds turkey hunt. The last mearns hunt for me this season happened this past weekend. Larry/Scout'm joined me Saturday. We humped the draws and slopes for 6 hours with his GSP and my GWP to find one covey atop a ridge in the grass and out of the oak trees. Larry got a pair with his new Weatherby, and I got a nice male. On Sunday after some attempted morning sunrise photos, I hunted a few hours and Rica laocated two coveys. A female and a mounter male came from the firs cove, and my terrible shooting gave the "scatter" gun its name, because that is what the covey did. Some photos of the nearby country. I did not carry the SLR with me while following the dogs. Doug~RR -
Pretty pictures
Red Rabbit replied to firstcoueswas80's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
It was the last mearns hunt of the season, so took advantage of a nice sunset Saturday evening. I went to a spot that had a tree and water hole to catch a reflection, but alas the hole contained no water, so "settled" for the silhouette of the tree. Afterwards, I drove to a point to camp for the evening. THe late evening sky still contained some nice color well after the sun settled below the horizon. And so the sun cast its blessing on another trip to southern Arizona. Doug~RR -
Brent, I stole this from another site for you

Leupold makes a switch-power bino. 10-17x and 7-12x versions for about $1000 http://www.leupold.com/hunting-and-shootin...wer-technology/

Are they still manufactured, or would you need to pick up a used pair? The 40mm objective may be a limitation with high power. From this review, sounds like only the 14x model has ED glass, not the 15x. A narrow FOV is mentioned at 10x. http://www.birdforum.net/showthread.php?t=66871

SW will have a yellow bodied FAT torque wrench for gunsmithing. If the scope slips in the rings and ring screws are tight, you could put a piece of electrical tape inside the rings.

Doug at CameraLand posted that he would have SHOT show samples of the CRF 1200. Check him for a good price.

Blue for the bases, none for the rings

How have the antelope populations in southwest WY (units 57-64) responded after the hard winter a few years ago (2006/2007?) ?

Since I have started hunting, my most desired hunt has been for a Dall sheep. Something about those striking white coats and curled horns from a set of beautiful mountains. Doug~RR

January 2010... another one to remember!
Red Rabbit replied to Coues 'n' Sheep's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
That is indeed a fine month of bowhunting for your coterie of friends and family! Y'all might allow Clay to retire early with bone like that -
DIY black bear/Sitka deer on POW island in AK. I think a trip with a outfitter like Homer Ocean on Kodiak might be above your penny jar limit. I think they are about $1800 http://www.homerocean.com/deer_hunting.htm Antelope in WY, or a landowner tag in NM Does NM require the fee for all species with the application now so you would have to send in the oryx fee and hope to be drawn? If so, the chance to be drawn as a NR may increase quite a bit.

Here is a review of the Vortex Kaibab 15x and the Swarovski SLC neu 15x56 Some of you may have had a few greenbacks left in your Christmas stocking hung on the mantle http://www.opticstalk.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=20729 Recall that at the CWT campout at Marshall Lake, we compared the Swaros, Leicas and Kaibabs. http://forums.coueswhitetail.com/forums/in...st&p=148213
