Carrie Underwood to Support HSUS
Red Rabbit posted a topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
Country music star Carrie Underwood’s rendition of “Home Sweet Home” isn’t so sweet for the millions of sportsmen who will be attacked by the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) after they make money off the tune. According to Carrie Underwood’s official website, http://www.carrieunderwoodofficial.com/new...r-american-idol ,the song is going to be used each week on the hit television show when a contestant is voted off. Unfortunately, Underwood has made clear that a portion of the proceeds from subsequent sales of that song will go to benefit the largest anti-hunting organization in the nation, HSUS. This will give HSUS even more money to direct towards hunters, anglers, and trappers nationwide. “Carrie Underwood has decided to use her talents to benefit an organization dedicated to destroying the rights of thousands of her fans,” said U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance (USSA) senior vice president, Rick Story. “HSUS does not operate or oversee animal shelters; it is a radical organization that seeks to end hunting and other responsible uses of animals in America.” Story said that sportsmen must send American Idol a strong message that its indirect support of HSUS, is not appreciated. Sportsmen can make a difference. Companies such as Iams, General Mills, Accor Hotels, Pet Safe, Sears, Meijer Inc, and Ace Hardware ended relationships with HSUS after thousands of sportsmen levied strong protest. Take Action! Sportsmen are urged to contact key personnel at American Idol’s parent company, Fox Broadcasting and demand that Underwood’s song not be given a stage to raise money for HSUS. Mr. Peter Liguori Fox Broadcasting Company Chairman of Entertainment 10201 West Pico Boulevard Los Angeles, CA 90064-2606 Fax: 310-369-1283 Phone: 310-369-3553 Also, e-mail the show at idol.web@fox.com. (This is an alert from US Sportsmen's Alliance) And just say NO to Carrie like the Ditsy Chicks -

And now Underwood is doing the "fur free" for PETA. http://blog.peta.org/archives/2009/12/fur_free_fabulous.php Time to grab the shotgun and use those CDs fo clay pigeons -
Horns vs Antlers? Not nearly as bothersome as stock vs stalk, and asked vs axed.

Nate, Hope you have a good day with friends and family. Doug

Jim, Hope you have a great day in whatever it brings you. I don't think you would look good in a black mini skirt, though . Doug

Looks like he ranged a bit, from the ponderosa to the cactus country.

azn8tiv, After spending Christmas in Scottsdale, I went back up to Flag to work a few days, so I did not make it there, but I will on the next mearns trip. RR

Now that is a buck with plenty of character all the way from the big bases to the tips.

20 years from now, Cody will remember this day much more than what information he would have had in the classroom that day. Congrats to you and Cody. Did you have a 36C tag in Nov?

Are you ready for the long shot? I am...

Without the program, I used the "improved" method by multiplying the cosine of the angle to the drop for 800 yards. Doing so, 105" x cos 45 = 74.2" That 74" is still 6.6" off. But still a lot better than using just the 38.5" drop for the horizontal distance. -
Rather smokey in my neighborhood today also. USFS is doing slash pile burns. The low temps will slow the grass fire near you, but some more moisture is definitely needed. Not much prospect in our 10 day forecast.

I have been putting in or buying points for the last few years trying to get a Red Desert tag. As Bill mentions, the draw for units 61, 62 is tough, like drawing an AZ tag. Plenty of other units with BLM land and good draw odds. Landowner access is supposedly not too expensive, possibly only a few hundred dolllars, not thousands. Don't forget to get the inexpensive doe tags. You might look on other sites like Monster Muleys to read some other info. Their Hunt Odds may help you choose a unit. http://huntodds.monstermuleys.com/ http://gf.state.wy.us/wildlife/hunting/index.asp

Michael, What kind of throat life are you hearing about on the 7RUM? A neighbor is very interested in getting one. Doug~RR -
G&F guidelines for the alternative whitetail units call for a buck:doe ratio of 25:100 to 35:100. So for 400 deer spotted about 23% (30:100 ratio) on average should be bucks, or about 92 bucks in the 400 deer. If you look at the survey data in the HuntAZ book, the sampling is rather small, with just over 100 adult deer being surveyed in each unit. Seems G&F might incorporate some hunters to record data to give a bigger sample size. In unit 8, survey data has recently changed since surveys have recently included airborne data as opposed to just groundwork.

Dunno about easy. Would have 48" of drift under those conditions. But the 270 WSM is a nice cartridge for NA that has sane recoil.

Kinda like writing out those checks that are a year old also. BTDT.

As a somewhat new bowhunter, how did you like being able to stalk close to those peccaries? Kind of an intense excitement, huh? Doug~RR

I believe the Accubond is only available in 100, 130 and 140 grain weights for .277 caliber. A bigger bullet will drop more, but have less wind drift and more Energy, but the practical difference between the 140 and 150 will be very small. I doubt an elk will tell the difference with 10 grains more in the lungs, and a 140 will be plenty for elk. Better to have a rifle with manageable recoil that one can hit what they're aiming at, rather than a bigger mangleum that causes flinching. Recall the development of the 7mm Rem Mag for elk in that regard. Keep terminal velocity above 1800 fps with the 140 Accubond for reliable expansion, that'll be out to about 800 yards, plenty far.

I would choose the Nosler 140 Accubond or the Hornady 150 Interbond. They're bonded bullets with good BCs. Some reloading data is on the Nosler website. H4350, H4831sc, Ramshot Hunter would be good powder choices. What 270 bullet were you thinking for 165gr? Sounds more like a 30 cal weight.

Give Stanley a shout. He has a Visla. He may have friends in Tuscon with Vislas.
