Rather than figuring the horizontal distance, it would be more accurate shooting if you multiplied the cosine of the angle to the moa come-ups. Not quite as good, would be to multiply the cosine by the drop over the angled distance. Both are better than determining drop from the horizontal distance.

Do you have to go to some circle of rock vortex near Sedona to activate the suit?

Rifle Kick....looking for suggestions for next rifle
Red Rabbit replied to Redman's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Obviously bullet placement will override or negate energy. One consideration would be enough retained velocity at the target to open/expand the bullet. For the TSX and E-Tip, the manufacturers say about 1800 fps. Nosler says about 1700 fps to reliably expand the Ballistic Tip. One source says about 800 ft-lbs of minimum energy for deer at impact. -
Great markings indeed!

Chris, Looks like great country for using those Kowas, and for some nice deer. Do the carvings for the treestands look recent in that they are a result of the new archery hunts on the strip. One would think there would also be older tree trimmings from when there were archery hunts there many years ago. Thanks for sharing the country via photos, as many will never get up there to see it. Scott, Of the males you took, were many young birds? or were they mostly mature leftovers? What kind of hatch survival would you estimate this year? Of the 8 males I got, only one had the white clown face. The other 7 had brown faces, which was suprising to me. Doug -
Jake, Congrats on your hunt success, especially on a windy weekend. Doug~RR

I liked them as much as the Vortex Razors. Way ahead of the Nikon Monarchs and Vortex Diamondbacks. http://forums.coueswhitetail.com/forums/in...c=12211&hl= Our test at Marshall lake showed them just a hair (one block on the resolution chart) behind the Swaro EL Some info from other optics sites: http://www.opticstalk.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=20515 http://www.opticstalk.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=19609 http://www.birdforum.net/showthread.php?t=148796

Some info about brake and hearing loss, Right now I have tinnitus from 1 season of quail hunting without hearing protection. http://www.freehearingtest.com/hia_gunfirenoise.shtml http://www.4hearingloss.com/archives/2006/...ots_hearin.html http://www.elcaudio.com/decibel.htm -

With the shoulder pain, you will never notice the detached retina -
Congrats to your dad and brother. Were they able to recover the 165 Sciroccos to see bullet performance considering shot placement?

Rifle Kick....looking for suggestions for next rifle
Red Rabbit replied to Redman's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Yep, once you are zeroed, get off the bench. Before a brake, consider: Recoil with 150 grain bullets will be noticeably less than with 180s, They will shoot flatter also. Put a Sims or Decelerator recoil pad on the rifle. Wear a Past recoil shield on the shoulder when practicing. Shoot a 22rf a lot. Dry fire your 300WSM a bunch and check for flinching. -

Try a 25-06, 270, or 280. Here is a table of various recoil energies. Be careful to note the different rifle weights http://www.chuckhawks.com/recoil_table.htm I am not a fan of brakes due to the noise, muzzle blast and likely hearing damage without protection. If you are prone to have one, consider the Vais http://www.muzzlebrakes.com/Default.aspx or one with ports to the side so dust and dirt is not kicked up as much http://www.defensiveedge.net/products/products.htm -
Elk and antelope apps will be due like the second Tuesday in February, right? Just a couple of months to plot strategy for the draw

If I may make a suggestion, I would strongly consider the Zen ED2 10x43 for less ($424) than the cost of the Vipers. (or even the 10x43 ED for $345) http://www.zen-ray.com/store/index.php?mai...amp;cPath=65_66

Stan, You have a great trophy. Congrats. Whooda thunk a brute like that would be in those hills above Wet Beaver. Doug~RR

Even thought the HS will have an aluminum bedding block, have the stock skim bedded to fit your action precisely.

Reloading... Lee vs. RCBS
Red Rabbit replied to luvdemcoues's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
There is lots of green between the mess on my reloading bench. The RCBS Rockchucker is an oft-recommended press. The Rockchucker Supreme kit would be a great place to start out. Add a case trimmer. -
Mearns Reports?
Red Rabbit replied to lugnuts's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Lugnuts, I too found close to the truck to be a preferred spot. Rica pointed a covey 30 yards from the truck first thing Friday afternoon. Your story reminded me of an archery elk hunt years ago. Came back to the truck in the evening only to have a bull bugling 30 yards away . This happened two nights in a row. Should have put a lwn chair atop the camper and waited till dark I posted my mearns report in another thread. Doug~RR
