Nosler is coming out with some new E-Tips, including a 140 grainer in 7mm http://www.nosler.com/newproducts.htm Something in 140gr in an Accubond, Interbond, Scirocco, E-Tip would be a does-it-all big game bullet for the 7mm-08.

I'll start with the Scent-Loc type clothing. To get activated charcoal up to reactivation temperatures would melt your drier . Not to mention that it has been shown to be worthless against a dog's nose. Gott laff at the carbon blinds that say they reactivate in sunlight. Does that mean they are releasing the scent molecules into the air around your stand ???

The Slik Sprint Pro is light, but I found its legs too flexible and sold it. For the same weight near 2 lbs and stiffer legs, I went with the Velbon Ultra LuxiL. I do prefer cam-levers as opposed to twists for leg height adjustments though. A little heavier at 3.5 lbs might be the Manfrotto 190XDB, Slik Pro DX 340X, Velbon Sherpa B&H would be a good place to compare models online http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/buy/Tripod-L...36/N/4291756656 Amanda, Doug at CameraLand, or Jim White should be able to fix you up and good to purchase from. Sounds like another great hunt for you and Scott. He and you gonna need to take vacations to recover from all this hunting Congrats . Good write-up too. Doug

Accubonds are generally accurate and effective bullets for most rifles. I'd choose the full-powered flavor that shoots the best in your rifle. Sciroccos can sometimes be fickle,, but this is probably reputation from the first generation. The Scirocco IIs shot well in in my guns and have a usefully higher BC than the Accubonds to give a flatter trajectory and less wind drift. But this is moot for short and mid range shooting. Good luck on your hunt and do some longinsh field shooting after you have zeroed on the bench.

Johnny, Your nap must have been a short one after the long drive, but it paid off for you. Congrats. Doug~RR

New Horizons in a Familiar Unit
Red Rabbit replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Jim, now you know why I don't gamble Mike, not one camp pic to post. Sorry. -
Sam, You can leave it on the skull for a few days untill you can get it to your taxi. I would have some water bottles and jugs frozen to surround the head and keep it cold in an ice chest. Use "bottled" ice so the cape and head do not get wet. Be sure to get all the neck meat out up to the base of the skull when first field dressing. Good luck on your hunt. Doug~RR

Congrats on the efforts and their reward. That buck may look familiar to larry and me from earlier that morning Doug~RR

From 3 peaks, looks like the fire burned through Leyvas Canyon, up to the towers, and ended at the top of Mildred Peak. Mildred looked really charred. As I drove out yesterday, it did not look like the fire got to Shaffer Ranch and north up into Jupiter/Weaver canyons. Possibly got to Indian Tank and stopped there.

For light, I am using the Velbon LuxiL with Manfrotto 700RC2 head. For use with the Claw, I have the Velbon Chaser (now Sherpa) with Manfrotto 701HDV. Neither is tall enough to stand behind. The Manfrotto 190CX would be a nice sitting carbon fiber tripod. For standing, the 055CX may work.

The 4x4 did not show yesterday morning . I saw an eighties 3-point, several does/fawns and 4 spikes, but was holding out for the 4x4. It'll be there for Larry and Chris if the late Nov hunters do not get him. Stopped by and talked with Randy and Christian (younghunter) on the drive out yesterday afternoon. Chris, gotta smell the roses with the Nikon , ya know . Doug~RR

Lance, Congrats on a good season and good luck to you, your guides and hunters for the rest of the upcoming seasons. Slick sure has pretty horn curvatures. Howard must still be smiling. Doug

Mine did best with 180 Fusions and Federal 180 Accubonds.

The new Winchesters are not chambered in 7 WSM, according to their online catalogue. If you do not reload, I'd say 270WSM as factory ammo is more common. Internet scuttle is that the new SC Winny's are more accurate than the New Haven rifles.

In replying to PMs regarding the contest, I find it annoying to wait if I have several PMs to respond to.

Stan, It was my pleasure to bore you.

The sunny skies, 60* temperatures and full moon drew me to various destinations in Northern Arizona this weekend. With the full moon of Halloween weekend rising as the sun was setting , I hiked up to a ridge to see if the moon would rise between the spires of Cathedral Rock. That notion will have to wait a few months, but the fading sun did paint a red glow on the Sedona Rock. Sunday’s destination was Lower Antelope Canyon near Page. I stopped along the way to see some of the leftover dinosaur mud of the Painted Desert. Right before Page, the iconic view at Horseshoe Bend of Marble Canyon below Lake Powell beckoned. The 18-105mm lens on a crop body was not wide enough of angle, so this is a stitched panorama. Finally, the slot in the ground into Lower Antelope Canyon appeared and 3 hours were spent being swallowed in the 800 yard long slot canyon. As the 3 o’clock closing time drew near, the light became better and the purples appeared along with the previous yellows and oranges. It is surreal how the camera captures colors the eye does not see. Doug~RR

Are you ready for the long shot? I am...
Red Rabbit replied to shortpants's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Good info on reading the wind. Article is linked in first post http://www.longrangehunting.com/forums/f5/...-carlock-24575/ -
Off a pack one gun shot lower, and off a bipod it shot higher, than off the bench. You should test shoot some groups at 200 yards

My two favorite areas were supposedly burned this summer and fall. Hoping for some good restoring rains. I do not think that google earth would show the Elkhorn or 3 Peaks burns due to their image dates.

Guess the Score Contest - Nov 09
Red Rabbit replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Contests and Giveaways!
Looks like a big bodied deer as the spread of the antlers may make him liike smaller. So I guess he weighed 127 3/8 pounds on the hoof after a good meal and drink of water.
