Perhaps he was logged in while using someone elses computer and that someone played a prank? Looks like he has just returned from Sweden as he is back to being male again.

Third times a Charm 'First Archery Elk'

a BIG CONGRATULATIONS to you Ilene! I keep hearing that it is relatively quiet out here. Hopefully the singing will turn on these last few days for the remaining hunters. Doug
  5. Bore sighting is often not accurate, so I would put the first target at 25 yards and adjust to hit the bull. Remember that you will need to make four 1/4" clicks to move the scope 1/4" at 25 yards. Then move the target out to 100 yards. Also, I would give the barrel a good cleaning with a copper remover after 25 rounds. There are different theories on barrel break-in.
  6. Loner, That might depend on barrel contour and chambering. I would figure that 3 shots would be fine before cooling is needed, and I try to wait 1 minute between shots. You can do some dry firing on an empty chamber to work on trigger feel during that minute. To help cool quickly after shooting 3-5 rounds, I have rubbed an ice cube along the barrel length, and then stood it up with the bolt open to allow air flow. I wait 5 minutes after the ice rub to allow some thermal equilibrium to happen in the barrel metal. While waiting the 5 minutes or more is a good chance to shoot another rifle or 22RF Doug~RR

    Abert's Squirrel...

As you said, look in the ponderosa pine areas. Might consider a shotgun instead of a .22 so you do not tear up the hide too much. #7 1/2 or #8 shot would be fine. There are still plenty of leftover fall turkey tags on the North Kaibab to make it a combo hunt. http://www.azgfd.gov/pdfs/eservices/2009FallFirstCome.pdf

  10. I developed some loads for my friends 7mm Rem Mag. We got good accuracy with 160 Accubonds and 150 Nosler BT using H4831sc. He chose the 160 NAB for a one bullet load for deer to elk; k.i.s.s. I had a 7mm Rem Mag for several years. I used a 150 BT and IMR 4350 for deer. Doug~RR

    Arizona Outfitter Missing

Upated info from Don: OK, here is where we are at. Larry spoke to several folks on Friday the 11th. One was Jim Mahac and around 3 p.m. he spoke with his son Kevin. He told Kevin he was about 20 miles from Socorro( SP?) He was suppose to pick up his hunters at 5 p.m. at the airport in Socorro and never showed. So they know the time element that he went missing is from 3-5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 11th. A lady whose husband has worked for Larry saw his vehicles ( both of them) in the parking lot of Safeway in Holbrook on Monday, Sept. 14th. She thought it strange he was there so she tried to text Larry. Subsequently she got a call from Larry's office saying he was missing so she turned around and went back. The vehicles were gone, and she didn't see anyone around them. A check of the store's inside surveillance revealed nothing. Too bad of quality to make out anything or anyone. No outside store surveillance. Lady is absolutely sure it was Larry's two rigs, still hooked up. So that's all we know as of right now. By the way, the contacts for investigators on this matter is Sgt. Jason Lurkins, Coconino S.O 928-310-8889, and Det. Larry Thomas 928-226-5032. The vehicle info for Larry's truck is a 2005 Ford F-250 Super Duty, diesel, dark gray, with AZ license plates CD-32204. Thanks for all the help guys, I know it doesn't look good at this point, but we got to keep trying. Don Martin
  13. Allen, Welcome. I'm not an expert at 36B, but in hunting it a bit for Mearns, there seems to be great coues habitats all along the Ruby Road from the east to the west side. Glass the south-facing slopes first thing in the morning for feeding WT, following the sunline down. Then the north-side bedding areas during the day, or trails down to water holes. I like to watch the travel routes/saddles in the evening as they move from bedding back to feeding slopes. You can find em in the flats to the mountain tops of 36B Duwane Adams book that is in the CWT.com bookstore would be worthwhile reading for a person new to coues. Give Casey/Firstcoues a shout as he is now in CG. Doug~RR

ANY BULL HIT THE DIRT YET??????

If one believes the advertising on the hunting shows, one can just pin a scent wafer to their Scent-Lock suit and forget the wind PT Barnum hunters But, maybe they believe that they can hunt longer with the wind at their back.

  17. While many hunters headed into the forests surrounding Flagstaff for elk, Rica was the copilot in the truck to the North Kaibab for the grouse opener. The trek north lead through the Navajo Rez where verga fell and the Painted Desert turned pastel. While driving south from Jacob Lake through DeMotte Park, the road shoulders were bordered with numerous mule deer, mostly does and fawns, which were feeding on the roadside greenery. Some fawns stood on the centerline evoking a rapid vehicular braking. Our group of four hunters managed only one bird on Saturday. Rica and I did however manage to flush three grouse in the thick cover. Two of the thunderous rises were heard but unseen. The third offered only a fleeting glimpse. This year we saw a lot of elder berries in the openings. We tried keying on areas to hunt with this food source. Only one small grove of aspens was changing colors. It looks like it will be another two weeks before more yellow splotches the forest. The Sunday morning hunt produced no birds, so I drove out to Saddle Mountain to take in the view. After visiting the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, we headed home to Flagstaff, traveling along the Vermillion Cliffs and crossing the Colorado River at Marble Canyon. Doug~RR

    Kaibab Grouse

Amanda, We tried proven spots, but was just to be a walk in through the trees. The first two grouse took flight about 20 yards ahead of me, and I never saw them. The third came from the other side of an elderberry as I had one foot up int heair while stepping over something. By the time I located him, he was just going into the tree canopy near the edge of a canyon. Just a fleeting glimpse. The views from the north rim certainly did not disappoint. The Point Imperial looks like it would be nice in the early morning sunrise. The edge faces the east. So I guess there is a reason to return. Doug

    Game and Fish Meeting LIVE

First Pass (20% Bonus Point) Twenty percent of authorized hunt permit-tags in each hunt number for deer, antelope, elk, turkey, javelina, and spring bear may be issued in this pass. Twenty percent of the total authorized hunt permit-tags (all hunt numbers combined) for both bighorn sheep and buffalo may be issued. Although 20 percent are available, the 10% nonresident caps are still in effect. Each valid application is assigned the lowest random number from those generated for that application. The application file for each species is sorted by group bonus points in descending sequence and then by random number within the bonus point groupings. In the Bonus Pass, the first and second hunt choices for all applications with maximum bonus points are looked at first. If permits are still available from the 20% allocation, then the next lower bonus point category is looked at; and so on, until all of the 20% allocation is issued or until all applications with 1 or more bonus points are read. Applications with zero bonus points will not be included in the 20% Bonus Pass of the Draw. As each application is read, the first and then second hunt choices are checked to see if there are any permits available as part of the 20% bonus point allocation. If there are enough permits available for each applicant on the application without exceeding the 20% allocation or the nonresident cap, the permits are issued to that application. If not, the next application is read and the first and second hunt choices are checked until the entire application file is read. Any unissued permits from the "bonus point pass" will be returned to the available permits for each hunt. The Drawing will then continue to the next two passes. If one chooses a hard to draw first choice and an easy second choice, it is possible that the applicant may not have enough BP to be considered for their first choice in this pass. But he may have an good chance to draw for some hunts that may require only a few BP to be in the top pool. Hence one can draw second choice without really being considered for the first choice in the next regular part of the draw.

    Which Spotter

The Kowa TSN 880 and 770 have a fine focus also. (Wish I had the extra $ for a top end spotter like swaro/leica/kowa) http://www.kowa-prominar.com/product/spott...tsn880/77ft.htm

    Which Spotter

just some thoughts. Have you looked at the Kowa Prominar? Why 85mm vs 65mm? Not concerned with size/weight/packability?
