For those baiting with corn and like hearing the whir of a Sweeney, there is KornKamo If you ever get into a high fence situation, try this ChainLinkCamo: -
Glad it worked out and you found the buck and some benevolent hunters. Was the first shot the one seen in the photo- ahead of the shoulder? RR

You can inject formalin/formaldehyde with a syringe (wear rubber gloves and safety goggles) in the veins every 1/4" under the velvet, or submerse it in formaldehyde, or keep if in the freezer to "freeze dry" it. Also, some companies can flock the antlers with synthetic velvet. Search taxidermy.net

Steak & pre-baked potatoes. You can cook your pasta meals ahead of time and freeze them in a good ziplok or vacuum seal bag and reheat in boiling water. Stouffers entrees that come in a plastic tray like lasagna can be heated in a covered pan of boiling water. Pre-baked spiral cut ham

How far is long range? for up to500 yards, you could easily stick with a ballistic reticle like the Leupold Boone& Crockett, or the RapidZ 800 on the Zeiss Conquest For about $640, you can get a VX3 4.5-14x40 with CDS turret, and when you have a load settled for your rifle, have them make the custom dial. http://leupold.com/hunting-and-shooting/pr...-5-14x40mm-cds/ Turrets are easy if you have a chosen load. To be "simple" you can zero at 200 yards, and determine with free programs how many inches or minutes you need to come up to adjust for different distances. An easy program where you inputthe data and hunt conditions are these on here: http://www.jbmballistics.com/calculations/calculations.html The small u range cards are handy to print and tape to the stock. Since temp and especially altitude effect trajectory, enter the best conditions for your hunt area, and another for where you will sight in and verify the load and come-ups. 308nut, et al, can tell you that life can get more exacting with TPW meters and palm pilots with exbal ballistc programs in the field, ACIs, scope levels, etc. A wealth of information here and in the LRH forums (especially the articles) http://www.longrangehunting.com/index.php Turrets 101 sans pics http://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbthreads/u...true#Post141082

125 gr. 30 cal. question
Red Rabbit replied to lionhunter's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Considering a 125 BT @ 3600fps from a 300 mag, and a 180gr BT @ 3000fps: With the 125 BT, the recoil will also be less. But the wind drift will be more 19" @600yds for the 180gr, and 22" @600yds for the 125gr. Wind is harder to judge than distance especially with an LRF. With a rangefinder and turrets or ballistic plex reticle, a difference in drop is moot. Without either, a faster bullet may be a good consideration. At 800 yards the 125 shows a drop of 98" and the 180gr shows 123" But I think the key will be bullet construction. The 180 BT has a thicker jacket than the 125. I suspect a 125 at 100 yards @ 3350 fps could make an ugly mess. You might load both up in your WM and shoot both into some wet newspaper of phone books at 100yards and report your findings. -

Bill/WFG That avatar is great! I can enjoy a good mule deer hunt as well as I can a coues hunt. I don't see a need to alienate/degrade those here that chase muleys, but can appreciate good-natured ribbing either way among friends. Doug~RR

I averaged the hunt success in 2008 for 6 southern units. (34A, 36AB&C, 33, 35B) Oct - 31% Nov 7- 26% Nov 28- 28% Dec- 55% Not much difference in success between the first 3 hunts that scouting, knowledge and hunter effort won't overcome. If you look at temp averages for Tucson, the average high for the end of Oct is 80*. The average high for the end of Nov is 70*. http://www.weather.com/weather/wxclimatolo...mnav_undeclared

I have the Balcom attached to the Mathews LX. In addition to the shoulder string they provide, you can put a small loop on your pack's shoulder strap to attach the hook. http://www.schafferarchery.com/bow-sling.html
