Had a "Not-so-Lucky Bean" hunt in C last Nov. Did not see the numbers of deer, or bucks, that I was expecting. One member glassed a drug packer in the area the day after I left. RR

Gotta be that lucky green cap Jared is surely pleased to have his nice Coues grace the wall. Doug~RR

Starting to look a little white and chalky. Sure they are from this year?

I had an Oct 15 cow tag a few years ago. The elk were still bugling early in the mornings. You might go out scouting in middle to late Sept to listen/see where the bulls are when they are more vocal. Does your hunt start Oct 2 or 16?

need a good set of binos for small amount of $$$$$
Red Rabbit replied to regge090's topic in Classified Ads
The best and cheapest (if they can actually occur in intersecting sets ) would be the Minox 15x58 that Doug at Cameraland has. Next choice would be the Vortex Kaibabs for $1200 http://www.cameralandny.com/optics/minox.pl?page=62132 -

Thought you just got that Kimber Montana 300WSM with Swaro scope

YB, The new butcher paper behind the sight-in target is a good idea. I do the same behind the target face when shooting longer ranges. RR

West Clear, Wet Beaver, and Fossil Creek seem to be the popular areas. Lots of country between the 260 and Verde River to check also. Take a flight on Google Earth.

Load for .280 Rem using 154gr Hornady SST
Red Rabbit replied to desertdog's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
My first rifle was a 280 Rem. I would try H4831, RL 19, or Ramshot Hunter. I figure that each rifle is an individual, so work up from scratch. Might look up the Audette Ladder load development method, and the OCW Optimal Charge Weight method. http://www.desertsharpshooters.com/manuals/incredload.pdf http://optimalchargeweight.embarqspace.com/# http://practicalrifler.6.forumer.com/a/ocw...ut_post363.html -
Some elk will stay in the middle of the lake during the day during the season. Reports are that it can be quite amusing to watch the bowhunters put on stalks.

Looking for new .50 cal...Suggestions?
Red Rabbit replied to Sundevils79's topic in Muzzleloader hunting for Coues Deer
Have you tried the Ultra Bore Coat? Reports are it really helps in muzzleloaders to reduce fouling and cleaning. I had my 6.5WSM coated on the way from the gunsmith right after being out together. http://www.ultracoatingsinc.com/ubc.aspx -
left over tags draw? when do we know results?
Red Rabbit replied to vegasjeep's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
DD, I have 3 different spots I would like to scout, so I have no definite site yet. Last year we were by the Elkhorn, but few deer were seen, so I'm looking elsewhere. But somewhere close to the elk backstraps Doug~RR -

Red Rabbit replied to vegasjeep's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Well, I'm not commuting everyday from Flagtown , so I will be camped there somewhere at the base of the Babos. I hear Scottyboy is bringing elk backstrap to the party. I was surprised to see so many leftovers in 34A. That was my second choice for LO. Doug~RR -
Dennis, Nice trip. Did Levi need some ibuprofen for the arms after each day of fishing. $2.19 for Twinkies??? I will agree with you on the tastiness of those yelloweyes. Art blackened some that were awesome. Doug~RR

Elk are pretty much all over 6AN. Lots of roads though. You should not have any difficulty locating elk. You might consider driving some backroads with a spotlight before archery deer season starts. A lot of cow elk around Mormon Lake now.

Also received a 36C Nov 6 permit. The people at the regional offices should also be able to access the main data base to give leftover results. I doubt that all the apps will have been processed yet, just those received Mon and some Tues. -

Cade, Nice fall bruin from a pretty area of NM. Congrats. Doug

I too would suggest the Leica CRF 1200. http://www.cameralandny.com/optics/site.pl?page=40523

The 25-06 with Nosler Partitions, Accubonds and Hornady Interbonds and the like will be fine. The smaller recoil in comparison with the larger calibers will promote better marksmanship. If you borrow the 270, he might want to practice with the "Reduced Recoil" ammo from Remington, as you mention. The youth model 270 may fit him better and help him find th etarget in the scope easier. Here are some images to show him elk anatomy and shot placement http://www.inberg.ca/hunting_essentials/el...t_placement.htm http://www.riflemagazine.com/catalog/detai...?productid=1602 http://www.dundeesportsmansclub.com/Dundee...otplacement.pdf

nee help in deciding which Bowtech bow to buy
Red Rabbit replied to hawkeye's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
What is it about the valley and wall of the LX that you do not like? In older age, are you looking for a smoother drawing bow, or a faster one with a harsher draw to get more speed at lower poundage? With many of the new speed bows, you cannot creep any without getting ripped out of the valley. -
Lion season does not open until Sept 1 for most of the state.
