Looking at all the turquoise color in the rocks, you must be near the copper mines in 27 Bull looks very symmetrical, even those short thirds .

Set a new Covert II from Amanda up on a game trail that crosses a draw above some dropoffs. Had a group of cow elk with about 5 calves and a monster bull come through daily. Some does and a fawn came through. No bucks. I will need adjust camera settings to reduce the number of images from 3 to 2 taken in a sequence and increase the time interval between sequences, as there were close to 500 images the first week the cam was up. P&Y Doug, That was about the size of that cub. I could be the first human it has ever seen. RR Doug

Week 2: Rica and I went this evening to swap SD cards. I could not format the replacement card with the controller to erase the images from the first week (as the batteries turned out to be dead. ) I heard a clattering of rocks from the bottom of the draw 20 yards away. Saw a small brown blob at the base of the pine, called Rica to my side and whoa'd, but she had treed her first bear. Was a SMALL cub that I guess she had chased up the tree. It climbed about 20' up the pine only 20 yards away from the camera, and moaned a little. Eventually the cub came down the tree and looked at us from the bottom. I was looking for momma as I took the whole cam down off the tree and left. Back at the house, I determined that the batteries were dead, and the cam would not format the card and capture images after new batteries were installed. The card will format in my Nikon and store images, but not in the Covert. So much for a Wally World SD card. I guess the 8 AA batteries died sometime during the last week. It must have tried taking a lot of IR images. I will wait to hear draw results before I decide where to put the cam put again. Doug

How, where to go when G&F err on your applications?

I would suggest to make a photocopy of the check and application before sending them in. Seems one hears about hunt number disputes a lot, but usually turns out to be the hunter applicant who errored. I would suspect that G&F makes microfiche copies of the apps. Hope your license number was actually correct on your apps. (did you by chance use your 2008 license number?) -
Doug at CameraLandNY has some Minox 15x at a great price. http://www.cameralandny.com/optics/minox.pl?page=62132

If their 10x binos are any comparison, I'd choose the Vortex Razor over the Monarchs. Another optic that I have heard good things about in that power range is the Minox 13x56. May I ask why you are considering 12x vs 10x or 15x? RR

You could always cut it up yourself. With the money you would give a butcher, you can get a grinder for the burger. I figure and elk takes me 12 hours of work. Doug~RR

The sheriff or PD may be able to run the serial number. If someone reports their gun as lost and gives the serial number, they may be able to have you contacted.

Scottyboy, It scares me to think of what you will now use for Avatars! Amanda It's that Grong/Josh fellow that would have me worried

Do you or your son have an elk tag? Were you able to get the tops of the bottom bull, or will you need to reposition the cam?
-
Considering the hair, possible a bear.

Looks like a great way and place to spend a birthday.

Six bulls were feeding on the ridge at the end of the street this evening. Just a few scruffy coated bulls with new velvet to fire up this season's elk hunts. Doug~RR

Looks like Brutus has a hefty appetite. How many grains of bullet do you feed him?

TJ, I am using a Nikon D90 with the 18-105 Nikon lens. Doug~RR

The Kachina bulls have not been venturing to the meadow, so photo ops have been slim. Today, I was called to be told that the bulls were bedded and feeding near the wetlands, so the camera was grabbed and placed atop the monopod. Six bulls were enjoying the shade on this 90* day. I was able to get about 35 yards away for almost half an hour, before they rose and ventured to the open basin to feed. The San Francisco Peaks then made a nice backdrop. Doug~RR

It looks nice. Could you use a spacer block behind the plaque? -
Mike, The data may be skewed by the % of CWT members that hunt region 5. If there are more members who put out more cams in Region 5 than other regions, then... One might need to know the total number of cams placed and the # stolen to figure which unit/region is actully more prone to theft. Also, one may want to determine the number placed and number stolen: at water tank with road, at tank with no road, at trick tank, on game trail close to tank, on trail in middle of nowhere, at established salt lick, on fence line, in bedding area, etc.

That monster bull is in the third pic.

A Kenetrek catalog came in the mail. It had some Russell Outdoors APXg2 clothing, which looks to be similar to the Sitka as softshell material with articlulated knees, elbows, some w/ Primaloft. Gander Mountain carries it and looks to be about 1/3 less than Sitka in cost. Could be a viable alternative. http://www.gandermountain.com/modperl/prod...4006&r=view
