Receiving them in the mailbox does tend to make one's day much better than a refund check!

Guess where I took this pic
Red Rabbit replied to hunterofcoues's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Considering the steep walls of Glen Canyon, I doubt deer hunting would be viable. I did see a dead bighorn in the water once (already beheaded). One can have the blue pontoon rigs backhaul you and a canoe/kayak to the dam and paddle/float/fish back. The boatmen used do it for a tip, maybe some beer, but now the company charges like $50 and you neeed to make reservations. I have done it a couple time in years past before they charged. https://www.raftthecanyon.com/con_trip_info.cfm -
Everyone's checks and money orders get cashed. If not drawn or if rejected, one will receive a refund warrant check, less the $7.50 application fee. Hopefully, we will receive sticky tags instead. Having one's check cashed is not an indication that one was drawn. One can only conclude that the application was received and is being processed. RR

Josh, Well done. The sponge gave great effective results- kinda like digital camo. RR

Did you see the sunken boat in the river bottom right about there? How was the fishing? Lees Ferry is rather photogenic. RR -
Looks like some nice markings on the legs and ears. Any neighbors complaining about missing houescats? RR

Well.........Were waiting!!!!!

Hey Aaron, Welcome. I hope you draw a deer tag (Coues of course ) Enjoy the wait and anticipation for the next 3 weeks or so. Doug~RR -
Ilene, most likely dry. The fishers in your group could try Sunrise, the Greer lakes, or Lee Valley (as opposed to driving all the way to Big, but the new road may make it nice).
-
So you want ONE heavy barreled rifle to use on prairie dogs and elk ? Best get 2 rifles one for varmints/predators, and the second for big game.
-
Ilene, Past Sunrise and White Mountain Reservoir on 273, you can take FR122 and 87 to the north of 273. RR

Terry mentioned it already, but another accurate consideration would be the Tikka T3. It comes in a variety on configurations and chamberings. http://www.tikka.fi/

If you have a pack you like, you might consider adding the Kifaru Gun Bearer.
-
I don't know if I would want to huff a varmint weight barrel, 12 pound rifle, up the mountains. You might look to find a used Remington Sendero fluted in 300 Win Mag, 300RUM, 7RUM. (not that the Sendero is a light rifle either, but looks like you are wanting heavier than standard). This article may give you some ideas. You might also search the LRH site for threads on "best factory rifle". http://www.longrangehunting.com/forums/f5/...et-jerry-teo-6/ If you consider not having a varmint contour barrel, the Weatherby Vanguard SubMOA will keep you under budget. Might do a trigger job on it (or any rifle) though. edited post 6/29 0717

What is your intended quarry? Budget? How do you hunt?
-
Technically, 12 & 13 comprise the strip, but most hunters think of only 13 as being the strip. UT migration effects 12b mostly. Hope you draw the 12aw tag. The big deer are there during the early hunt also, just need to work and scout harder. Perhaps % more younger bucks are taken during the early hunt because the hunters view the hunts differently and hold expectations differently.

Nice background story and treasured mount for you for sure!

Is this the year for a close encounter with him? RR

Ouch. Insurance? Any hail damage to the new roof?

Jay, Will John/Junior at Bull Basin in Flag let you sit in the back door and glass muleys atop Elden for a spell to see if they fit your one eye without strain? Doug

MFB, You do not have to shoot competitively. Just shoot the courses for fun and maybe a side-bet with the guys in your group. If nobody is competitive in your group, you possibly could use a rangefinder if you want. At the Happy Jack shoot, no binos or rangefinders are allowed to speed up the shooting. If you go to a shoot by yourself and do not want to shoot alone, it is pretty easy to find some others to join their group. Competitively, there are different classes based on your age and equipment. There is a certain stake you shoot from. Doug~RR

Dick, I corrected the dates on my post. That's what I get for C&P, huh? Hopefully the snow and lightning will stay away that weekend for the BHH. Doug
