    Wet Beaver Creek Updated....

Don't know about hiking down from 260. Might be better to hike up from Bull Pen at the mouth. Here is a pic showing the south rim of WCC from below Bull Pen. You could hike down into WCC on a trail near Tramway on the north side. As a HS kid, I hiked down a side canyon off 87 and did not find trout till below some springs. I do not know if G&F still stocks the upper canyon. It makes for a nice hike down through the canyon with a raft to float some pools aver a few days. Did you catch any smallmouth in Wet Beaver? RR

    Big smelly fire in 36C?

You mean that that nasty catclaw (not you Dennis ) in Brown Canyon may have been eradicated for the short term?

    Big smelly fire in 36C?

Tried to find a fire perimeter map, but whooda thunk they'd report/post that info on the net Best I could find with pic/video to give idea of location. http://www.azstarnet.com/sn/metro/297149.php
  4. Had to watch the video again just to listen to the good music
  5. Amanda, Much better map to my eyes. Thanks. Jim White should hopefully have the new Vortex Kaibab 15x on-hand to test. I will bring my pair of Zen ED 8x43 that many have been raving about for $360. Lance says the recent fishing in Lower Lake Mary was still good on flies. Doug
  6. Here is the map from last year. Follow the yellow highlight to the yellow X that Lance added. (The red is the Arizona Trail, not a road) I will try to have some signs with arrows as last year. http://forums.coueswhitetail.com/forums/in...ost&id=7758

I believe Lance A posted pics and had a cleanup near Lake Pleasant about 2 years ago.

    Saltwater Fishin' Trip!

Jim, Those rockfish are some good eating. Looks like a fun trip. Don't know how Gino would fare in the swells, since he said he is turning a little GREEN . Doug
  10. Karl, Considering eye relief, I think the Vortex will be the shortest with just over 3", something to consider with a 300 WM in the field.

    A Truly Splendid Place

Amanda, Tailgate camping it twas. The night sky had a lot of high clouds that lasted till past sunrise. Had to often wait for a thin spot to let the sunlight through. Doug, I was really pleasingly surprised how that pastel sunset turned out. The photographer had been there for a few days waitng for all the right lighting to come together. She was shooting 35mm film and also 4x5 large format. Right at sunset, the sun peeked under the line of clouds and above the horizon for just a few minutes. Hopefully she got the soft hues she wanted. SBD, That one buck would have been nice to catch on the hoof. Doug~RR

    Big smelly fire in 36C?

Is there any link to this fire? In the Tucson paper?
  13. Leupold VX3 4.5-14x40 with B&C reticle. You might check the websites of Cabelas, Bear Basin, Midway, etc to see if they still have a VX-III at reduced cost, as the VX3 has upgraded the VX-III. 40mm will be plenty bright for legal hunting hours, so no need for a heavier 50mm that requires high scope rings to ruin a cheek weld. 15. Just a friendly reminder that with the upcoming deer application deadline next Tuesday, that ther is a new PO Box number and the new envelopes have a green stripe. (the old ones have a red stripe) Apps with the old PO Box are to be forwarded, but will they get to G&F in time. The new address is: Arizona Game and Fish Department P.O. Box 74020 Phoenix, AZ 85087-1052.

    East Valley Restaurant

Someone on MM posted about a new restaurant with many trophy mounts. Looks like a nice place to have a dinner with hunters. Wish some buffalo steaks were on the menu (drool). Anyone been there yet? http://www.trophyssteakhouse.com/gallery.html

    Pinal Mountain Fire

Don't worry Mark, CBD, SC and GCT would not allow a harvest to happen, green or charred RR

    6mm Remington??

If you are going to keep deer on the menu, then I'd choose a bullet suitable for deer and and be overkill on coyotes. (better than choosing a coyote/varmint bullet that may be marginal on deer). Possibly the Hornady Interbond or Interlock, Swift Scirocco, Berger VLD, Nosler Ballistic Tip, in the 90-100 gr range for a higher BC and hence retained velocity for expansion and energy at longer distances. Recoil with the heavier bullets may be aa little more than with the lighter pills, so investing in a good pad like the Decellerator or Sims SVL on a second cut-down stock may be wise for your young boys. RR
  19. Dano, If you do a search, you may find that interest in the Claw started with posts from a few hunters that found and reported on a good product. Amanda secured a test sample at the end of last year to see if she would carry it in her webstore. I received the copy to test and reported my findings, both good and bad, and passed suggestions to the owner. If we members find a worthwhile product or service, I hope that we can pass on the news, whether that product is a sponsor or not. Likewise if we find something not worthy, I hope we can respectfully pass on our valid findings. HUnters helping hunters without self-interest is a good thing. Doug~RR

    6mm Remington??

Are you planning to use it for Vermin or Deer? That 55 gr Nosler Balliatic Tip would be a screamer for coyotes at 4000 fps.

    Sandstone Wash

Just a few miles from the house is a nice spot with a sandstone exposure that will need to be revisited at a different hour of light. I'll try not to slip into the water next time also. Doug~RR
