    Pellet Stove for Wall Tents

Also saw a diesel stove instead of wood or pellet for heating. http://www.pioneerspaceheaters.com/expedition.html With that diesel stove, one might be tempted to buy a wall tent and live the good life. When I went to Kodiak a few years ago the boat had a diesel stove for heat and cooking, which worked well. I also like the idea of hardly any CO CO2 risk if the pipes are tight, vs a propane heater. Propone also gives off water vapor as a combustion product, so drying clothes is a little more difficult, or possible condensation inside the tent.

The Clarry Pellet Stove. No electricity needed. Seems pricey but convenient. http://www.clarrypelletstove.com/index.html
  3. I can see the Claw almost being a Godsend for those susceptible to buck fever. Sure wish I had it many years ago in unit 29 when the affliction caused me to repeatedly miss a 115 typical until the magazine was empty. Even some cross-sticks were of no added use. I think they closed that canyon to mine for lead after that season. RR
  4. Cade, No problem mentioning my name. (I'm sure it has been used by others in worse contexts. ) The Gun Claw does appear to have very good construction with machined and anodized aluminum sides and cam levers. The threaded rods for the locking cams appear to be stainless steel. I got an extra tripod head plate with the 701HDV head so I can epoxy the plate directly to the Claw. I have removed the 2 rubber strips on the head plate, as I found that they allow some vertical wiggle (I noted this in my review). I also noticed the screw of the plate may not offer sufficient locking and the Claw may start to twist/rotate on the plate during use. Rather than epoxy to prevent rotation on the plate, one might drill a small hole in the bottom of the Claw to match the pin of the 701 plate. As a side note, people getting the Manfrotto 501/701HDV may also need to get the thread adapter bushing, as the thread size on the Manfrotto tripod heads may not be the same as the threaded post on the tripod (like on my Velbons). Jim White has some. These might be a good addition to your Gun Claw web-store. The Claw with the extra plate weighs right at 1 lb. My Harris bipod weighs 1 lb 4oz and affects the rifle balance. Prairie dog "season " opens June 16, so the new GunClaw will get a good workout soon I should be able to give a good field evaluation then. Doug~RR

    Game bags

Junk are those 99 cent fishnet gauze bags. Pillow cases work. What's wrong with a light canvas type bag that you can launder and reuse? Here's an option: http://www.theultimategamebag.com/

    Life and Death struggles

Have received these in a few emails. Supposedly a guy was walking up a closed road in Glacier NP in Montana and came across the predator and prey who fell from the cliff.

    Kimber Montana 300 WSM

Terry, It's a shooter, it feeds well, only about 200 rounds down the tube, and that scope is very nice. Just think of it as buying the scope and getting a Kimber Montana for just another 300 bucks . Surely you have a rifle collecting dust to sell Doug~RR

Welcome! Good luck in the draw, but hope you have more than a handful of points if you want a sure thing for the Dec WT....like 9 points for unit 33, 6 for 34A, 7 for 23. Doug~RR

    Kimber Montana 300 WSM

I'd like to hear your perspective....

Similar the the window stickers, I'm surprised that someone did not leave a reply by pissing in the bottle. Gino, Looks like even a good rain may cause the tank to rise and inundate your salt block. Nice thing about 2 or more salt spots together is if a couple of bucks come in together, they can each have their own lick. You could refer Chris to page 10 of the regs, and hunt the spot midweek to avoid the yahoos. RR

    .257/.300 Win Mag

Looks like a speedy guy, between the 7STW and 257WBY. http://www.accuratereloading.com/25300.html I have a 300 WSM that is a likely candidate for a 25 WSM or another 6.5 WSM. The 25WSM should be real close to a 257WBY RR

Sitka Gear Website Updated for 2009

I noticed that the Cabelas website is now showing the 2009 Sitka Gear as being in stock. If they have it in the Glendale store, might be worth a trip to inspect and try on. Those stretchy Ascent pants would be worth a look to me. So J, what do you have in the works? RR

    The BIG Ditch

Some friends from Texas have been here in northern Arizona for a few days, so we played tourist at a few sights including the Grand Canyon. It has been many years, nearly 25, since I have seen the canyon from beneath the rim with a backpack. This trip was via car from atop the south rim, however. Doug~RR

    The BIG Ditch

Ilene, Even though the Canyon is so close to Flag, I rarely make a special trip to see it. Have probably been to unit 9 hunting dozens of times, but don't take a few extra hours to go to the rim. Thanks for the comments. Doug

    The Draw System

If you have 6 BP, you would be given 7 random numbers ( one for each BP and one for that year's draw). The lowest of those random numbers is used in the draw. For each part of the draw (20% pass, 1-2 pass, 3-4-5 pass) new sets of random numbers are given. How the big game draw woprks: http://www.azgfd.gov/eservices/BigGameDrawingProcess.shtml
  21. I thought the published draw odds were based on first choice applicants only. Since there were leftover permits in 36B for the 3 early hunts, and everyone in looked at for their first and second choice in the 1-2 pass, it would seem that everyone putting one of those 36B hunts for first choice should have been drawn and should have been shown as 97% The 87%, 97%, 97% is interesting. But here is a possibility to explain this. People may have put those 36B hunts in for first choice, but drew their second choice in the 20% bonus pass. This would thus show the draw success for first choice applicants to be lesss than 100% Drawing the second choice in the 20% Bomus Pass is a possibility even for those with enough BP for an easy to draw unit. Happens to some every year to those wihout enought BP for the first hunt and they wonder why they did not get their first choice when that hunt is a 100% draw. One can overcome this by putting in the same hunt number first and second choice. Doug~RR

To shoot?... or not to shoot?

Looks short on the prongs and not that massive above. Kinda early to tell how massive he will be at the bases and how much longer he will grow. I'd say keep looking.
