Elk and Antelope applications down.
Red Rabbit replied to Noel Arnold's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I would think that most people with a high number of bonus points will still put in for those hard to draw hunts as they would not want to jeopardize their chances of drawing, falling out of the top BP pool, or falling behind in BP. I would suspect that any who do not apply, and maybe do BP instead, will be those with few BP or apply for cow elk hunts. -
What tricks have you learned from other in camp?
Red Rabbit replied to scoutm's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
I must have been an old dog this year -
Looks like you need to be near there come next archery season. Hard to tell in the photos about the buck in the back, but he has my initial attention.

Sedona & Oak Creek Canyon Photo Trip
Red Rabbit replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Non-hunting trip reports
Thanks for the replies. Stan- glad that the pics could be a Calgon moment for you. Chris- Aside from a few photographers, Slide Rock and the creek banks were void of people. No snow bunnies like on the old beer commercials. -
Sunday, February 15, is the last day to send in your entry for the Coues Buck Contest. So, if you or your youth entered the contest last fall and killed a buck, be sure to get your stuff in to me. If you do not see your field photo in the contest thread, one of us forgot. You will need to email me your best field photo, gross score, and link to the hunt story you posted. Thanks. Doug~RR

Here's some comparison pics from today's Sedona trip. Seems the +1.7, +2 EV blew it out a little. Perhaps +1 would have been better. +0 EV +1.7 EV +0 EV +2 EV +2 EV and darkened highlights w/ PSE7 Doug~RR

I measured 26" in the backyard this morning from Saturday's and yesterday's storm. Some melting on Sat/Sun and settling has occurred. With the snow pics, you may want to take a series of pics and overexpose +1 to +2 EV to get whiter snow instead of gray. Sometimes, putting the white balance on "cloudy" helps a little. http://www.luminous-landscape.com/tutorial...sing_snow.shtml

Had a pleasant, albeit windy, Sunday near Sedona. Oak Creek was swollen and more suitable to kayaking than trout fishing. Hunted some Gambels this morning and then took some side roads to get near Bear Mountain to shoot some photos this afternoon. Fortunately, we did not get drawn into a vortex. Doug~RR

Sportsmanswarehouse going out of business?
Red Rabbit replied to hawkeye's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
CS, Bear Mountain is a gun/archery store in Mesa. -
Being that that is a popular area, someone will hopefully find the dog (and the dog will come to strangers).

Sportsmanswarehouse going out of business?
Red Rabbit replied to hawkeye's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
From what I have read and have been told, the orginal problem was that Sportsmans was not paying it's bills (and building new stores instead) and thus vendors were not shipping. Recently, end of 2008, a very wealthy farming group from Canada has purchased Sportsmans and are clearing up the credit problems. Add to the election of Obummer and the resulting gun/ammo/reloading buying spree and hoarding, everyone's shelves are nearly empty. I would imagine that Bass Pro, Cabelas, and the local mom and pops are not much better in terms of commonly used components. Midway and Cabelas are backordered on primers. -
Did you put your camera over an existing natural scrape, or did you make a mock scrape? If you have had cameras over both, do you notice a difference in how many times they are frequented? Wonder what the doe is looking at? Maybe that buck is around from 9 minutes earlier.

Boredom has set in
Red Rabbit replied to willhunt4coues's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
Could bump up an old thread about one's first coues hunts. Still lots of room for everyne to add their story and pics of their first coues hunt. Neo L's was pretty cool. http://forums.coueswhitetail.com/forums/in...ic=6772&hl= -

Elk hide needs tanning...
Red Rabbit replied to More D's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
here are some tanneries. My taxidermist in Flag has used Golden State in CA, and one in Victoria, TX http://taxidermy.net/suppliers/tanning.php -
Reminds me of the Dwight Schuh line of packs, currently by Fieldline.

What do the pictures show after the catch and before before contact is being made? Seems the contact on the right side would tend to lift the right side leg and hence the toe. Likely, this is an after the fact photo, imo.
