I did not see the word "Mexican" in front of "Gray" So USFWS is also still upset that WY does not want the wolves.

Kenton Industries and Leupold will also make custom turrets for your scope if you provide the data. If you change loads or altitude/temp much, you may just want to use regular target turrets and a free ballistics calculator to figure the elevation come-ups. I believe member "coues 'n' sheep" has a Huskemaw scope and says he likes it. You may want to look at longrangehunting.com

Help me pick a scope
Red Rabbit replied to CouesFanatic's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
For around $300, look at the Burris Fullfield II or the Bushnell 3200. Both can be had with a ballistic reticle. If you are planning on taking the RUM in to the woods for elk, I would consider a 3.5-10 or 4.5-14x for the lower power and larger field of view at closer ranges (rather than a 6-18, 6.5-20). Give Doug at CameraLand a call and see what he can do for you. -
Brian, Must have been a rush to see how he reacted to the grunts and bleats as he came in. Did he pin his ears back in response to the grunts? You barely let the sun rise on the new year. Hope you get an elk tag to fill the fall. Doug~RR

The speed of sound is 1126 fps, so still worry about deer jumping the string.

I had a 260 in the Rem LSS Mtn configuration. It was a pleasure to shoot. With a sleek bullet like the 130 gr Swift Scirocco or Nosler Accubond, it will do fine on deer. I figured mine had enough E and V for Coues out past 600 yards. Not what I would choose for elk but a friend killed a bull with his out past 400 yards. It is ballistically similar to the 6.5x55 Swede, which has killed a lot of moose over there. With a 95 gr V-Max, it is killer on coyotes, but not pelt friendly. You can compare some factory ammo ballistics here http://www.federalpremium.com/products/rifle.aspx

Hey neighbor, Congrats to ya on a fine Coues. Hope you have been doing well. Doug~RR -
You can check your draw odds here for the various elk hunts. http://www.azgfd.gov/eservices/documents/b.../1-2%20Pass.pdf 6AW and 7E will likely give you the best chance of drawing an archery bull tag with 3 BP (17-19%). You can hunt the PJ or pines in either unit. 5B N&S have pj country also. I do not know much about the White Mountain units to help you.

A friend was elk hunting in 6B a year ago and left his camo daypack on the ground as he moved to call the herd of elk. He could not relocate it when he returned to what he thought was the spot. Spent a whole day looking. Another hunter found it a few days later, and took it to my friends camp. My friend had marked his camp on the GPS which was in the pack.

treestand lesson's learned...
Red Rabbit replied to crazy4COUES's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
Consider the afternoon sun. I once hung a stand on the only downwind tree, where the afternoon sun beamed on me till it set. Got a nice facial tan, but no elk from that tank in two days. It was hot and hard to conceal oneself. I notice some hang a stand on the front of a tree. I prefer on the side, so I can draw the bow back without the elbow hitting the trunk. Look behind the treestand to see if there is cover to hide you, or if you will be skylined. Wrap something around that pinon pine where branches are trimmed, so sap does not drip or you can lean back against the trunk without getting sap on the camos. -
For those who have never gone...

I knew there had to be ulterior reasons for that mountain climbing and marathon training Sounds like a memorable experience will be had. Doug~RR -
I got to talk with Paul a while on my Dec coues hunt last year after he shot his buck. He gave me some FOBs to try. My broadhead groups tend to be slightly tighter. Using a longer nock can help reduce the face contact, as would shortening the draw/anchor spot from behind the ear or neck.

What is his price range? On the lower end, he might consider the Weatherby Vanguard, Savage, Remington SPS, or Tikka T3.

Optics Odd question doubler or trippler and camera
Red Rabbit replied to AUminer's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Do a search for doubler or tripler in the optics forum. Lots of info. I believe the conclusion is that two doublers on a bino do not work very well. Jim and I have done a review of the tripler. http://forums.coueswhitetail.com/forums/in...ost&p=63894 -
I looked through a pair of the 15x50's and was not wowed, actually a little disappointed in IQ. Have heard they have been discontinued. Vortex is coming out with a new 15x bino that will be worth looking at. CameraLand made an announcement on this forum. VORTEX INTRODUCES THE HIGH-POWERED KAIBAB BINOCULAR Named in honor of the famous North Kaibab plateau, home of some of the country’s largest mule deer, Vortex Optics’ new Kaibab 15x56 HD binoculars deliver an exceptional, high-powered stereoscopic view for serious western big game hunters. The Kaibab’s feature Vortex’s advanced HD Optical System, a combination of sophisticated optical engineering, advanced multi-layered XR lens coating, and XD (extra-low dispersion) glass in the objectives. All exterior lenses are protected by ArmorTek, an ultra-hard, scratch resistant fluorine compound that repels oil, dirt and corrosive salts of fingerprints. The result is a high-powered binocular with exceptional color fidelity and resolution of the finest detail. Bright, crisp and clear, the new Kaibab offers a level of optical quality and performance that was once found only in European binoculars selling for up to twice the price. So, when hours of glassing with high-powered binoculars is the preferred hunting tactic, it takes both serious patience and the highest quality optics like Vortex’s new Kaibab 15x56mm binoculars to consistently locate your next western trophy.

I do not know what muzzy elk hunt you are applying for, but the 20% pass for the Nov muzz bull hunt in 6A got to those with 6 BP. If you are applying for a Sept bull tag, that is akin to an early rifle bull and odds are long and one can expect a long wait before drawing. You can check your chances here. Hunt numbers are the 2008 numbers. http://www.azgfd.gov/eservices/documents/b.../1-2%20Pass.pdf

Has your outfitter mentioned the terrain and cover you will be hunting in and the lengths of shots to expect? What will you be using the rifle for after the elk hunt? For use in the timber, consider the field of view at low power. You should be able to find the Leupold VX-III 3.5-10 discounted about 80 bucks and under $500 as they are upgrading the line to VX3. The Burris Select and Bushnell 4200 should be good also. Without turrets, the ballistic plex/B&C type reticle would be handy if you will use the rig in open country. Sorry about the lack of AZ elk steaks in your freezer. With ten years of pink slips, you should have 12 BP and can likely draw about any rifle bull hunt, unless you have been holding out for an early bull hunt.

I have for sale the Panasonic FZ20 digital camera from which you have been seeing my photos that I have taken since August 2005. This is a 5 MP, 12X optical zoom, image stabilized camera with Leica lens system. Specs and what is included is listed and shown below. Original price was $682, but will sell for $150 shipped. Lens is flawless. There is a small scratch on the UV filter as noted below, and the shutter button may sometimes be “sticky” on the first push (I read this may be due to a spring inside). Included accessories are listed below. Review of Panasonic FZ20 with specs. http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/panasonicfz20/ Included Software (for Windows): ArcSoft, USB Driver Included Accessories: Battery Charger 2 Battery Packs (1 Panasonic & 1 Digital Concepts) 1MB Transcend 80x SD Memory Card Hoya 72mm Circular Polarizing filter ($70 value) Hoya 72mm UV filter (has small 4mm scratch 5mm from edge) 72mmm Lens Cap Factory lens cap Lens ring Lens Hood & Adaptor A/V & USB Cable Table Top Tripod (cheesy, unused) Neck Strap Digital Concepts padded camera bag (unused, like new) Doug~RR

Rather than check the solunar tables to see when the best time to fish is, one should check the stocking schedule for the arrival of the bait truck, err I mean fish stocking truck. I hear the browns at River Res also like the delivery of trout dinners.
