777, What scale are you using now? If you want to speed up the process with a balance beam or electronic scale, have you tried the Lee Powder Measure scoops and a trickler? The RCBS Chargemaster is a nice device. I use it or 5-10 scale. RR

You might consider the Federal Fusions of the Federal blue box Classics for less expensive ammo that usually shoots well and is good on deer. Metal prices sure have driven ammo, brass and bullet prices up in the last year. RR

Are these Monarchs like a moss covered stone in the middle of a swift river? Are we counting points or looking at brown blobs at 1 mile?

Leftover License Results

Enjoy your bowhunt on the Kaibab with the reduced number of hunters. The nice gal said my application has not been processed yet as nothing was on her computer. They will hopefully be finished by Friday and to call customer service then. RR -
Check out this dude!!

You better untie him. He's starting to wear a hole in the ground and by the time the season starts, it'll be too deep to see him -
The leftover permits for deer, turkey and javelina are listed on a pdf file http://www.azgfd.gov/eservices/documents/2...eList080718.pdf

Clay, You cannot apply for a leftover fall deer tag if you already drew a fall general deer permit. You could draw a spring turkey and apply for fall turkey if you did not kill in the spring. The same goes for a junior hunters with spring and fall javelina. If you kill a deer in January archery hunt, you can apply for deer bonus points. Technically you could apply for general deer after killing and archery deeer in January, but if you draw, this would prevent another hunter from drawing that permit (you could donate the permit to HOAL and hope they can use it, or sign it over to to your minor child. But you can see what might happen if your child also draws.) If you kill a spring turkey, you can apply for bonus points in the fall draw. Look at this from page 100 in the 08-09 printed regs: R12-4-104 L. An applicant shall submit only one valid application per genus of wildlife for any calendar year, except: 1. If the bag limit is one per calendar year, an unsuccessful applicant may re-apply for remaining hunt permit-tags in unfilled hunt areas, as specified in the hunt permit-tag application schedule published annually by the Department. 2. For genera that have multiple draws within a single calendar year, an individual who successfully draws a hunt permit-tag during an earlier season may apply for a later season for the same genus if the individual has not taken the bag limit for that genus during a preceding hunt in the same calendar year. 3. If the bag limit is more than one per calendar year, an individual may apply as specified in the hunt permit- tag application schedule published annually by the Department for remaining hunt permit-tags in unfilled hunt areas.

The shed looks like it could be from the buck in the second picture. -

Seems like one could make a plentiful supply of cleaning fluid by taking a pint of 90% rubbibg alcohol and adding a couple of drops of original Dawn dish soap and use with lens tissue. Then enough fluid could be put on the lens to help float any dirt particles away after brushing (thinking that the pre-moistened wipes need more moisture). RR

If a person has one of the first envelopes and draws a leftover, how soon and how does one know? Do they post results or update the draw results? Those of you that pulled a leftover last year might chime in. Thanks. RR

They should be opening the envelopes today. And the winner is???? I will be trying for one of the Nov 7 leftovers in 36C&B and 34A. RR

This weekend, Rica and I made another scouting sojourn to the prairie goat lands west of Seligman. Besides the antelope and a nice sunset, we saw 2 badgers and a handful of coyotes not pictured or shot at. Guess when you see the yotes in some one's driveway or on posted land the bullets should not fly, and most of the coyotes were that way. A few PDs succumbed to the 50 gr V-Maxes during one road stop though. Saw a couple of groups of fine pit BBQ, but those horse lovers in NY and with BLM would not have approved. Can't fathom why a feral land rapist is federally protected. The recent rains made the prairies green, and adorned with some blossoms. An old ranch house near Pica Camp turnoff. The weathered T&G on the other two sides has already been removed. Saw a few speed goats, but no buck that was primo. I peered over a ridge and caught this buck with about 8 does at 50 yards, with a yote sitting and peering at the group from about 10 yards away. Went back to the truck to get the camera, but the group had moved further off. This buck was herding a dozen does on a flat a couple hundred yards out. This third buck was by his lonesome. Saturday night's sky fire. Doug~RR

Amanda, I have you covered. I have a couple hundred Remington cases from when I had a 270. You can get it when you come up for elk scouting, or I can mail it to you. What brand of brass are you using now? Doug

I'd look in some of the mosaic areas of the Warm Fire burn for young aspens and forbs.

There is also Lonesome Pine Archery in Holbrook. I personally do not know how Jesse's service is. RR

In the field, the hair brush followed by a B&L Sight Saver (lens tissue packed in cleaning fluid/alcohol) is used. At home or camp, the brush and then lens tissue soaked in Kodak lens cleaner solution and enough solutiion to float any dirt away. is used. Hope you don't see me using the Lenspen pad or shirt tails due to imbedded abrasive dirt dust. I am leary of the microfiber cloths used dry, especially if they do not get cleaned often. I have read where the cotton fibers of t-shirts and Q-tips are actually coarse and not good on lens coatings. Doug~RR

Hunt success for both units in Nov is about the same, so either one should equitable opportunity. The deer survey data of each unit does not give a deer density figure.

There has been lots of discussion on ArcheryTalk about limb failure on the Generals and now the recall.

Done in shades of UN blue (rather ominous.)
