    Elk hunting rifle

The best deal is on the Tikka with the Monarch. THe cost of the scope new alone is more than the asking price. The 7mag is fully capable of killing elk. The Tikkas have a great reputation for accuracy, if you can live with the plastic stock, magazine and trigger guard. The worst value is the Rem SPS with the Leupold scope. The scope is only worth $200
  4. Nothing was in the article if there was a border barricade that was broached, if any Mexican HumVees supplied by the US were involved, and whether another vehicle(s) likely loaded with drugs continued on.

    Lightning and Treestands...

Carry a 1 iron in the pack and hold it up in the air when there is lightning. As any golfer knows, even God can't hit a 1 iron.

    range finder

Just keep shooting that 300RUM with the brake That'll fix your hearing to match the eyeballs. The Swaro rangefinder has an aiming circle that is too large, IMO, but it is sharper and ranges further than the Leica 1200. RR

    Which Chrono

The CED Milenium is reportedly the best out since the Oehler 35 is no longer available. The IR screens eliminate the errors due to sunlight and shadows. CED Chrony For about $100, some say that the CE Pro Chrono is good. I think I will try it next. Pro Chrono I have a Shooting Chrony that I get a lot of errors with due to different lighting conditions. Sometimes putting the semi-transparent Scotch tape over the sensor windows helps, but not always. Shooting Chrony

Sorry, I feel the need to brag!!

Larry, With cheap factory ammo doing that, you should be all smiles and giving your wife a few extra hugs. No need to think about fire-lapping the barrel. What was the flavor of ammo that did this group? RR

    zeiss conquest reticle

LC, The Conquest 4.5-14x50 AO comes with turrets and the regular Z-Plex reticle. Another scope to consider would be the Bushnell Elite 6500 http://www.bushnell.com/general/riflescope...n=General%20Use and the Leupold 4-5-14 with M1 turrets http://leupold.com/tactical/products/scope...14x50mm-lrt-m1/ . Leupold can put the M1 or a custom BDC turret on a VXIII scope through their custom shop. The Mark IV is available with MI turrets

    zeiss conquest reticle

LC, Here's a good post about the Rapid Z with links to the calculator. The Calculator should tell you how the hash marks will match with your ammo. Rapid Z Be aware that most ballistic reticles will require you to be on the highest power. If you use a drop chart and turrets, you can be at any power. Being able to go to a lower magnification may be an advantage at very first or last light. It will only take 10 seconds to read the chart and turn the turrets after you range the animal. Doug~RR

    .270 Questions

The Hornady heavy and light mag rounds will be fine to shoot from your 700. These loads may give you another 100-150 fps. They have a proprietary loading procedure to make these rounds. In a Winchester 70 in 300 WM that I had, the Hornady Heavy Mag was the most accurate factory load from this rifle. If those Remington Factory Scirocco loads shoot well, I would be tempted to stay with them. The Scirocco has a high BC compared to other bullets, and has good controlled expansion characteristics. The Remington trigger is easy to adjust yourself. Otherwise, a smith may charge you around $40 to do it. I like my hunting rifles around 2.5 pounds with no creep. http://www.quarterbore.com/library/article...700trigger.html http://www.snipercountry.com/Articles/Remingtontriggers.asp Doug~RR

    300 wsm

You might just load a series in 0.5 grain increasing increments and shoot over a chrony to see what your rifle does and when it reaches published max velocity for the chosen powder. I have shot a couple of loads in my Kimber 300WSM that are under published max gr and vel, but will give a tight bolt in my HS Precision 300WSM. Your gun is likely different than the test barrrel the data book used.

    New coues gun

You might shoot those loads again to see if they are flukes, are repeatable, or get tighter before you play with seating depth. This looks better than what you said the first groups were. RR
