Aren't HAZMAT fees for shipping primers and powder like $25 or $40?

What would be the number of hunters that applied for a coues hunt (1st and/or 5th choice) vs the number of coues permits? This would indicate the real demand for coues permits. I suspect that including the number of hunters that only put in for the oversubscribed mule deer permits are skewing the numbers. How many hunters only apply for mule deer? We have been talking about changes to the WT hunt structures, but what has changed to the MD hunts to offer more opportunity? I have not looked at the information to answer this. Doug~RR

Went shed hunting with Rica the other weekend behind the locked gates of Rocky Park Road. A couple of miles back due to aimless wandering, Rica spotted a family of three also looking for sheds. They were wearing full camo. Huh? Can't see where the sheds will run off if they see you, since it is lifeless bone. At the price of camo, why wear the duds out? Wouldn't wearing GRORANGE be better to help spot each other as you and a friend hike throught the timber? Just a quizzical observation. Rica and I didn't find a shed after 4 hours that afternoon. Guess they spotted me in the bright blue jacket and ran off or hid under the pine litter.

Hope to see some of you this weekend. The shoot is just 14 miles south of Flagstaff on I-17

Gotta love how spontaneous degeneration causes an EVOLUTION of new tires. Just think of the changes (lightening) in your genes (sic) due to the disappearance of many generations of Washingtons .

Troy, Congrats again! Pretty bird with those iridescent feathers in the sunlight. So how excited were you that you grabbed the bow upside down? Doug~RR

3D Shoot May 17&18 in Flagstaff

Here are a couple of the shots on the smoker course. I have always enjoyed smokers as the really make you concentrate, and think about or learn you arrow trajectory. My friend attributes his caribou to having shot smokers and learning to shoot through small windows. -
A friend asked about that same gun also for a home defense gun. He did not get one, so I cannot say first hand. The 410 should do a number on an intruder. Still must question/wonder about the recoil.

Scott, that is the only compaint I have against the Bino Manager; it rides up the back and the bino lowers in the front. Having a suspender type attachment in the back puts one back to the same problem I had with the Hang-Tight in that it worked poorly when wearing a jacket. I do like those wider neoprene shoulder straps on the Bino Manager- what are they using now?. Doug

3D Shoot May 17&18 in Flagstaff

ndaniel, There were an estimated 200 shooters, which is not a bad turnout for the weekend before Memorial Day and gas/diesel prices climbing upward. AZ402 stopped by and we had a good chat. Would like to be able to sneak off and shoot a course or two with y'all. The next shoot Flagstaff Archers has is the Max Hamilton on July 19 & 20, at the same location at Willard Springs. Doug~RR -

June 21 is the weekend of the CWT gathering at Marshall Lake. -
Someone mentioned that the cover on the IPI model is slightly larger than the one on the Mad Dog version. I have the IPI one and my 10+15 Duovids fit fine, but I can see that a longer pair of binos would not. The Duovids are 7 3/4" tall with the eyecups extended. Did you make some kind of suspender strap attachment to keep the harness from riding up high? Doug~RR

Yes, just not legal for migratory birds.

Tim, that would require more effort and a hard-line decision than making a feel-good declaration.

If nobody grabs some horns and sets a day, time and place, it won't happen. Whatever is chosen, run with it. Not everyone will be able to make it, and some will have a higher priority activity come up and will bow out. The first one at potatowhisperer's farm in west Phx was attended by just a few, but those that went had a good time. $0.02 for the taking. -
You noticed that also!

What tools are you using to measure the distance off the lands? I also would expect pressure to increase with the bullet in the lands. I would use a chronograph to see what the velocities are (Higher vel = higher pressure). How are the two loads accuracy wise?

THis will give some weather observations for different stations http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/mesowest/mwmap.php...fgz&map=fgz

Looked up that Tusayan on the south rim received 0.82" of precipitation. That will do well as unit 9 has been dry. Amanda, your elk hunt spot received about 0.37" RR

The HUNT ARIZONA book from G&F gives most of the info. http://www.azgfd.gov/pdfs/h_f/hunting/Hunt_AZ_2008.pdf It has survey data, buck:doe, fawn:doe, hunter days, hunt success, # applicants for each hunt in each unit for each species. I did not see it give the age classes for the deer harvest though. There is good data on the horn measurements for harvested sheep.

Anyone from Tucson going to carpool up? I should be manning the smoker course. Just look for an red-n-grey headed man with a GWP named Rica. Doug~RR -
Kast, Could you try a longer nock, and/or a longer draw loop to get the FOB away from your face? THis may help unless your anchor point is too far back towards the ear.

http://www.starrflight.com/index.php I met Paul during my December coues hunt last year. He graciously gave me a sleeve of a dozen to try. With field points, they are grouping the same as the Blazers. I have not tried them with broadheads yet. There is a lot of positive talk about the FOB on Archerytalk.com. I have broke two FOBs when the arrows hit another in a group- best to use a 5-spot target. Doug~RR

What rifle are you taking on your elk hunt?

This Kimber chambered in a short-fatty will hopefully make the journey to the promised land of Unit 9 in November. -

This got me to thinking about a 270-08. There is the 308, 7-08, 6.5-08 aka 260, and 25souper 25-08, and 243 but one generally hears little about a 270-08. Guess there is the 270 Redding, a 270-08 with a 30*shoulder, and the 270-08AI with 40* shoulder.
