It is supposed to be windy there today and tonight 20-35mph with gusts over 40, out of the WSW. Not good. Right now in Flag at 9:40AM, it's 32-40mph. Some of the thicker PJ stuff in the lower part of unit 9 could use a controlled burn, imo, but not in these windy conditions.

2nd annual Flagstaff area CWT get together!
Red Rabbit replied to Lance's topic in CouesWhitetail.com Get-togethers!
How about if we bring our binoculars, spotting scopes, and tripods to do a side-by-side comparison? This would be more useful than any Internet claims and boasts by Ford/Chevy owners. RR -
Mike, One pair of binos that I would like to compare to the Swaros and Leicas are the Nikon Superior Es. They are porro prism, but still supposed to have a better image than the roofs costing Xs more. 8x32 at $699 and 10x42 at $899. We may have older eyes, but we have looked through enough crappy optics to discern quality. And on a hunt or scouting trip, it's the binos and the boots that are most important, imo. Perhaps at the June 21 BBQ at Marshal Lake, we can all bring our optics to compare. RR

Skyhawk, Talk with Doug at CameraLand. He can beat the Sportsmans Guide price, and you do not have to pay shipping. Great service also. http://www.cameralandny.com/optics/vortex....texvulture12x50 He also has the Vortex 15s http://www.cameralandny.com/optics/vortex....ortexviper15x50 RR

Here are some reviews for your consideration. The birdwatching.com has a review of mid-priced binos. http://www.birdwatching.com/optics.html http://www.24hourcampfire.com/8x42.html http://www.24hourcampfire.com/big_eyes.html http://www.birds.cornell.edu/Publications/.../Age_Binos.html

SkyhawkBH, What binos do you have now? Spotting scope? What is your budget? Do you have a tripod? What kind of hunting will the binos be used for? Stillhunt, spot-n-stalk, elk in the pines, open coues country?

easy to see bow sight for old eyes?
Red Rabbit replied to Schmitty's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
I also have a little astigmatism so distant vision is suffering, in addition to the aging eyes requiring weak reading glasses, so I can relate. I have 6 green pins on my sight- they do show up the best for me. I tried/tested a verifier lens last week in the peep by Specialty Archery. It cleared up/focused the pins, but the target became slightly blurrier, so I passed. Your local archery dealer may have them to try. http://www.specialtyarch.com/verifiers.asp -
Tony, That Browning is the same model I began with. Entry and exit through the donut hole while wearing flippers was often amusing to onlookers. Doug~RR

I have both. With a float tube, you certainly don't want to fish the other side of the lake and expect to get there fast. Better to walk around and put in on the shore you want to fish. A tube might be best for Jim's pond if he has to hike a ways through the salt cedars. With a pontoon, I still use flippers for control and slow fly trolling if it's not too breezy. The advantage is faster point-to-point motion at the expense of wind and packability. The pontoon has an anchor system, but a small anchor can be used with the tube also. I often thought of a drift sock for my canoe. Might be consideration for the pontoon.

Here's a descriptiom of the case and the bows it should fit. Noticed that it said it would fit the ARs with 31" to 37" ATA. My LX is 36" ATA. http://www.outdoorsuperstore.com/product.asp?prod=420715

"I knew immediately it was a rabid bobcat and we were in trouble," Thompson said. How did he know? "I have no idea,'' he said. "But it was totally obvious to me." While there was no frothing at the mouth,... Obviously a valid conclusion based upon a preponderance of evidence

Some people have posted that they received their refund checks yesterday. No one has mentioned receiving a tag yet. Should be receiving the tags and refunds soon. Better to receive a tag than refund though. RR

There is a like-new pair of 8x30 SLCs for $700 on AZOD. Those would make a sweet pair for elk or muleys in the timber.
