Jason, It can be used towards the hunter ed bonus point. But as I understand it, the hunter still needs to take the written test and field portion in person to complete the course and receive the bonus point. http://www.azgfd.gov/i_e/edits/hunter_education.shtml Doug~RR

The jelly-like breasts would be worrysome. Can't imagine those NM turkeys having self-esteem problems and having breast augmentation done. Reminds me of the grand champion steer from the Houston livestock show many years ago that was taken to the slaughter afterwards and was found to be "silicone enhanced"

For the Whisker Biscuit Nay Sayers
Red Rabbit replied to Redman's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
What vanes are working or lasting the best with the WB? Any difference in performance (speed, grouping, stabilization) with straight, 2* offset, helical? I would think that straight would offer the least decrease in speed, but 2-3 fps can be made up with one pound more in draw weight. -
Yes, I'm proud to admit it. I am an Eagle Scout Just wondering if anyone hunted it, and found higher or lower numbers of deer concentrating in the area. Did it have a chance to green up significantly? Did hunters avoid the burn, or were more attracted to it? Maybe someone will be lucky and draw one of the 40 December tags in 36B and think about that new burn.

Did anyone hunt the burned area south of Kitt Peak in 36C last fall? Opinions and results? Was wondering how the area currently burning between Pena Blanca and La Pajarita in 36B will hunt this fall? Monsoons could green it up nicely.

Why can't I find any sheds?

Tyson, I can give you GPS coordinates for the last blood drops Dec 31. Should be a nice rack somewhere close that evaded me. RR -
AZGFD Commission Meeting in Phoenix
Red Rabbit replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
Mark, I do not think you missed the discussion here. Only 7 posts regarding the loss of December Coues permits in the name of opportunity, but over 40 on where to get a burger in Payson. Only 1 person went to the meeting on Tucson last week. I would wager an equal number sent emails or phone calls to the commission and department. Kinda surprising in a negative way for a hunting site. Equal apathy regarding the archery permitting was likely prevalent. Some archery discussion was mixed in here: http://forums.coueswhitetail.com/forums/in...c=5894&st=0 Most of the discussion about the archery permittting was on Bowsite, with well over a hundred responses. http://forums.bowsite.com/tf/regional/thre...28&state=AZ Doug -
Quail and Squirrel Seasons
Red Rabbit replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
With quail season will starting about 9 days earlier than normal, but it should not be much warmer than the original date. Will still need to rest and water the dogs plenty, even near Prescott and Sedona. The Junior Deer and Javelina hunts start Oct 10. -

Taking Shooting Lessons from Casey

Carl, I sent you a PM. -
Increase which tags by 10%? All species & all hunts? Just Deer? Just certain hunts? What was his stated justification and ramifications? What discussion followed?

They are both supposed to be mailed out by April 25.

Rattlers have made appearances at two archery 3D shoots in the past two years- one at Willard Springs and one in Camp Verde. Both have turned into reinforcement training opportunities

AZGFD Commission Meeting in Phoenix

Keith, All I know is what I have read on two other forums. Doug~RR -
Tyson, Here is a discussion of watches that I recalled on another board. These suggestions would probably be better than having Casey's GPS duct taped to your arm. http://24hourcampfire.com/ubbthreads/ubbth...rue#Post1910889 Some backpacking boards may also give some good suggestions. A Casio I had years ago had an alarm that was barely audible, causing me to oversleep several times. Doug~RR

CouesTracker, You undoubtedly drew those being in the 20% bonus pass group for top BP holders, taking 2 of the 5 permits. Sorry about your gaffe. Doug~RR

I usually figure about 12 months to get a mount from a taxidermist. It may take months to get the hide back from the tannery to begin with, then the mount will be waiting in line to be done with possibly hundreds of others. RR

I'm another person using the Scott Little Bitty Goose NCS. Scotts are very reliable. I used a Mongoose for 10 years, and shot quite a bit, and never had a problem. Doug~RR

Jim, Since you mentioned the location on another thread, Rica also had some "fun" on those rocks, it they are a couple hundred yards down on the east side from where the road meets the river. Rica also managed to step in a hot bed of coals that someone had left from a bankside fire the night before. At first, I thought she had been struck by a rattler judging from the sound of her yelp. Too bad this is opening after the white bass (changed from "whites" for Bill's sake ) make their run. The Agua Fria was running this year, but I had heard the access was closed, so I did not drive down from Flag for some fun fishing.

I had contacted G&F about trying to move some of the early WT permits back to December. With the proposed permit numbers, the December permits are right at 5% of the total number of WT permits, which is the max allowed under the 2008-2010 guidelines. Thus, no shifting is feasible or foreseen. I went to Flagstaff open house, and there were 5 hunters in attendance, including Bowhuntingmaniac/Garth and myself. Doug~RR

A friend wanted me to put in with him for the Nov archery hunt in unit 9. He thought only having 25 tags in th unit would be great. I told him he could put in by himself. I explained about it being after other hunts, if it snows, and demand for tha hunt would result in a shift from Sept archery permit numbers. We did not put in for the nov achery, but did draw the nov rifle. Hope those 25 archers don't spook the elk before our hunt
