The AZ book says first come apps will be accepted after Apr 14. Figuring that one should know before this date by knowing if they were drawn, what leftovers are available, and mail time, then one should know before April 9. I do not recall last years date that draw results were posted, but remember that they changed from internet to mail half way through and extende the due date.

Jason, All entries need to be sent to me by the 15th of February. Some hunters still need to return from Mexico or need to score em and post and send me their pics and score. If anyone registered for the contest, and does not see themselves pictured in this thread, let me know (I have tried not to miss anyone who sent them to me, but you never know) If you still need to post your story and pics, and send the best pic and score to me, please get it done by Feb 15. dkoepsel at aol.com Doug~RR -

Mike, Hunting6's, buck from Mexico. Notice the dropper on the left beam. http://forums.coueswhitetail.com/forums/in...ic=8225&hl= -
20% of the tags for each hunt number are given to those with the max number of bonus points in an initial drawing. The 10% NR cap still applies.

What is that saying? "You remember the quality long after the price is forgotten." I think that applies to taxidermy, hunting equipment, women, and beer. Doug~RR

From the guidelines General deer hunts will occur on standard opening dates. When stratified, a series of 7-day hunts may occur throughout October and November with all hunts opening on a specific Friday and closing the following Thursday. A December white-tailed deer hunt will open the Friday of week 50 and continue to the end of the year. The following seasons will be available: Juniors-only on Friday of week 41 (October 10, 2008 and October 9, 2009) White-tailed on Friday of week 43 (October 24, 2008 and October 23, 2009) White-tailed or Mule Deer on Friday of week 44 (October 31, 2008 and October 30, 2009) Mule Deer on Friday of week 45 (November 7, 2008 and November 6, 2009) Mule Deer on Friday of week 46 (November 14, 2008 and November 13, 2009) Juniors-only on Friday of week 47 (November 21, 2008 and November 20, 2009) White-tailed on Friday of week 48 (November 28, 2008 and November 27, 2009) White-tailed on Friday of week 50 (December 12, 2008 and December 11, 2009) If only a single early deer season is selected in October or November, the season will run for 10 days. Antlerless elk seasons will not overlap with a deer season in units with hunts for both species. Season dates will be selected to avoid such overlaps. If the unit is managed under Alternative Hunt Management, 10-day seasons may also be used. Hopefully, no overlaps with rifle bull will be made, althought this says for cow elk.

Gino, For sheep and antelope, the draw odds are so low and random that it does appear that BP make little difference, unless one is in the 20% bonus pass. For elk and deer, where there are more tags, one can see a trend in greater draw odds for those with more BP. I think that putting in the 20% bonus pass has helped a lot for those at the top that are unlucky in the draw. Too bad this was not instituted years earlier when the BP program began. Some things that might improve the draw situation would be to make the BP exponential, squaring the number of BP like in Nevada, or even raising them to the 1.5 power. A second thing would be to split the sought after NR tags so that half are available in the 20% pass, and the other half in the regular draw so those NR without max points can still have a chance to draw. Some think that BP don't work at all and they should be abandoned. Using unit 7W rifle elk as an example. 1757 people applied first choice last year for 450 tags. This gives each person a 25.6% chance statistically to draw if there are no BP With the BP system the draw % was 2, 5, 11, 15, 20, 17, 56, 56, 27, 50, 67, 100% for BP=0 to 12 respectively. As you can see, the draw odds increased with more BP. Those unlucky in the draw for several years did benefit. It would be nice if everyone could draw every year, but after the first year, I would hate to see 65,000 hunters trying to shoot the last two remaining pronghorn the second year. That said, I still think the direction of more opportunity is short sighted and that the game populations will suffer after a few years, and hunters will become disenchanted with the crowded fields and fewer bucks&bulls. They may have screamed they really want a chance to hunt during the fabled survey, but after they got their wish what will they scream? Will G&F do a post survey to judge the desire of the hunters after a few years.? Will they conduct a hunt satisfaction survey from those drawn in the early Oct and Nov hunters that had the increased tags?
-
Lark, I purchased the report from G&F for about $25. I think they may put this data on pdf format next year. Unless you have max points and have a chance to draw in the 20% bonus pass, the odds are terrible for rifle antelope. The report says there are only 4 or 6 that have 19 BP (and 150 with 17BP) for speedgoats this year (which is diff than what the HuntAZ book says) Doug
-
Those guidelines were approved at last summer's commissioners' meeting in Flagstaff. Notice that the Nov 28 coues season will overlap the Nov 28 general bull elk season. I believe the deer seasons will voted on at the April commission meeting.
-
According to my bonus point analysis report, the max last year was 18. Don Martin is also saying the max was 18. I downloaded the Hunt AZ and it said 19BP (as you noted). Hmmmmm???? I have 18 this year for antelope.

What chambering and factory ammo do you use? What chambering and what bullet do you handload? Why do you use factory or handloads?

Sounds like you got good penetration through the wall or sill. What kinda broadhead? -
There is no maximum. Keep collecting as many as you want. The more you have, the luckier you will feel before the draw.
