Celebrated with some elk brats and a brew at a good friends house. Sure was a lot of smoke in the air around Flag this evening. We looked at the bonus point analysids for elk and figured we would be 60 before we drew an archery bull tag in 9, so will hope for a rifle 9 tag. 2950 fps is what to expect from a 180 grain bullet. Not quite a 300 Win mag, but close. Some WSM rifles have had feeding problems, especially with the top round from a loaded magazine, so might want to check out your friend's rifle. Also ask to see any targets for accuracy. There are plenty of factory ammo options if you do not handload. I have a couple rifles in 300WSM and wildcatted a third. Doug~RR

couesaz, I would secure the rifle in a drill press and drill out the better part. A Dremel could be used for any high,rough spots left inside. This lightening would change the balance of the rifle forward. I would not want the survival gear rattling around inside the stock. Then there is the problem of making the recoil pad removeable to access the goodies. Doug~RR

Redneck, That reminded me of a bear hunt on the San Carlos. Cowboys had a horse gored during the roundup and had to shoot the horse. We sat over the dead horse waiting for a bear, which did come and eat out the anus area when we went back to camp for lunch. The game officer wondered if we had shot the horse for bait, but cleared us after he talked with the cowboys. There seemed to be lots of dead cattle on the rez to attract bear. Also, we did have a bear raid our peach pies in camp while we were out hunting. Doug~RR

A Pelican case is stout and waterproof. SunDevil uses a case like the Pelican that he got at Sportsmans , but it is less expensive. I cannot recall the brand. A camel hair brush and air can is good to bet off the abrasive dust before using a piece of lens tissue and lens cleaner. You can buy promoistened lens tissue in individual packs that are good to take along to wipe any oil off the ocular lens you may get from your lashes and lids. Don't use the leather suede end of a lenspen.
