Nice looking rig!

Here is an overloaded duo set for a backpack archery elk hunt into a wilderness in Colorado. Equipment has improved a smidge in the last 20 years.

Good idea, but you created a new job for yourself . Now you need to go back and transfer the old threads over to this forum

couesaz, I would secure the rifle in a drill press and drill out the better part. A Dremel could be used for any high, rough spots left inside. This lightening would change the balance of the rifle forward. I would not want the survival gear rattling around inside the stock. Then there is the problem of making the recoil pad removeable to access the goodies. Doug~RR

You might consider a syl tarptent http://www.tarptent.com/index.html some info on the kifaru forums http://forums.kifaru.net/ubbthreads.php?ubb=cfrm The forums on backpacking light http://www.backpackinglight.com/cgi-bin/ba...rums/index.html Stoney-point stix would be lighter than a Harris bipod. or you can shoot off your pack or camera tripod and leave the bipod behind I enjoyed my Velbon LUXi tripod and Manfrotto700RC2 fluid head this season. 3lb 3oz complete. My older bones enjoy a thermarest pro-lite at night, but lighter is a z-rest Petzl Tikka XP headlamp light 1" nylon rifle sling instead of leather or cobra style sling to save afew oz. Bore out the stock butt under the recoil pad Leica duovids instead of separate 10 and 15 power Swaros (save a few pounds) Try a light jacket or vest of Primaloft or Polarguard. Check out the gear guide on the backpacking light forums. http://www.backpackinglight.com/cgi-bin/ba...uide_index.html What are you using for a camera?

Happy Birthday To The Hall Monitor

I can't believe that Dirk D has not sent in his well wishes. -
Nice way to spend the day off; better than shoveling the driveway. Did you not get a peccary in the snow last year also?

Interesting aside on NM laws
Red Rabbit replied to Outdoor Writer's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Redneck, That reminded me of a bear hunt on the San Carlos. Cowboys had a horse gored during the roundup and had to shoot the horse. We sat over the dead horse waiting for a bear, which did come and eat out the anus area when we went back to camp for lunch. The game officer wondered if we had shot the horse for bait, but cleared us after he talked with the cowboys. There seemed to be lots of dead cattle on the rez to attract bear. Also, we did have a bear raid our peach pies in camp while we were out hunting. Doug~RR -
Happy Birthday To The Hall Monitor

Hope the birthday fairy leaves you a gift bedded under a tree and he doesn't make you look too hard. -
A Pelican case is stout and waterproof. SunDevil uses a case like the Pelican that he got at Sportsmans , but it is less expensive. I cannot recall the brand. A camel hair brush and air can is good to bet off the abrasive dust before using a piece of lens tissue and lens cleaner. You can buy promoistened lens tissue in individual packs that are good to take along to wipe any oil off the ocular lens you may get from your lashes and lids. Don't use the leather suede end of a lenspen.

When I first got my cell years ago, Alltel was the only provider that had service in Kachina Village south of Flag and at the south rim of the canyon(unit 9). I do not know about who has the best coverage now.

Interesting aside on NM laws
Red Rabbit replied to Outdoor Writer's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
So no urine on a mock scrape for deer, if there is no use of scent allowed. Suppose if someone used the tarsal glands cut from a previous buck, he's in violation. No elk urine spray misters. But a cow in heat urine wafer pinned to a person's cap could be an allowable cover scent. -
Political E-scouting
Red Rabbit replied to Non-Typical Solutions's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
CRS, but who is the candidate that claimed to be life-long hunter but never has had a hunting license? -
In reading how the high demand is determined, I see that too many of us Arizonan coues hunters are applying for unit 23 coues in NM and thus raised the cost on ourselves. In the last two years, the draw chances have really gone down. For the first hunt in 23 (excluding Burros), the NR unguided draw odds were 6.6% I would be inclined to think that the friendly former pharmacist from Flagstaff, boy george, was involved in the 12% NR guided allocation. You are in for a real treat with those buffalo steaks. Purty Sharps to take that red-headed buff. Bet there are a lot of guys that wished for that recovery vehicle behind the cockscombs on House Rock. Doug

Good tag, good hunt, good buck, good friends.
Red Rabbit replied to Redbeard's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Chris, I am still flinging carbons and cedars with compoungd and longbow, but with the Dec tag, I concentrated on the rifle this last year. I enjoy both bow and rifle. Now how to practice for that adrenaline rush when the buck finally steps out . I drew a general pig tag so I could hunt quail in Jan, so will likely take the longbow for that hunt, although a 22-250 is calling. Either method is enjoyable to me. Doug -
How old are they? Are they the latter production that had the phase correction?
