    Bullet Question

You can compare some factory ballistics here. http://federalammo.com/ballistics/Ammo_Sea...earm=1&s1=1 If you reload and want a light, non-varmint bullet, you could try the 130 grain Barnes TSX BT (and be condor safe too .) Using the 125 Nosler Ballistic Tip @ 3100, 150BT @ 2900, and 180BT @ 2700, my ballistic program says at 800 yards: 125BT has 1626fps, 734KE, 53"wind drift (10mph wind) and 182" total drop from bore. 150BT has 1678fps, 937KE, 46" wind drift and 193" total drop. 180BT has 1676fps, 1122KE, 42" wind drift, 212" total drop

    Shorty Bags a Buck...

I looked on the registration list. No shortpants, no longpants, no knickerpants, no pajamapants, no wifewearsthepants. Gee, no pants of any kind to be found entered in the contest. Sorry. Regardless, real nice buck and terrific photos. Congrats on a trophy after 4 years to ya shortpants. Doug~RR

    Ultimate Camo

Reminds me of the reflective screen you could carry to hide behind, which would reflect the image of the ground in front of you.

Not a coues but still a whitetail

I was thinking Texas Panhandle. We could be close. Did you retrieve that GPS tracker from underneath his truck yet?

Stan, Nice 8 point. I did not know we had such nice whities near Sedona, judging from the red soil. Doug~RR

    Berger VLDs

Jason, they are supposed to shoot the best when seated to touch the lands. If you make a dummy round so, you will see if it fits in the magazine (the 130s fit in my 6.5WSM seated to the lands). With the 175 grainers, I'd use 180 grain data and work up as usual from starting loads to max for your rifle.

    MY FIRST KAIBAB HUNT

Congrats on a nice buck. Looks like he has been rubbing on some of those charcoal trees up there. Were many hunters in the Warm Fire burn area, or did it seem most hunted further south of the burn? Doug~RR

    Unit 9 Muley Hunt

Went up to 9 with my friend's nephew as he has a rifle bull tag in November and has never been there. He drew a deer tag up there also so he would have the chance to look over the unnit before the elk hunt. We saw about 20 does and no bucks, and some nice sunrises. Was greeted to this sunrise Saturday morning. Stepped out of the truck, heard thundering hooves real close, like 50 yards away, but twas only several does and fawns. Saw may elk in this group from a distance (sorry, 1000 yards and hand held pic). Counted 52 and surely missed a few. One bull was about 350, but had a busted beam. Another only had one brow tine left. Must have been some tough fighting. Sunday morning had this sunrise illuminating the clouds to the west. And along the Grand Canyon Railway tracks looking north. Came across this hole in the terra firma. Figured the limestone dissolved away underneath and the roof collapsed. Was about ten feet deep and went back undernreath ten feet. Finally, a view towards the San Francisco Peaks to the south, hazed by the smoke from southern Cal. Doug~RR
