Welcome to Flag. Good luck in the draw. I have lived in Flag for almost 30 years, but have never applied for elk in 7E, so have no first hand experience with that late elk hunt.

So many choices so little money. Need a rifle scope
Red Rabbit replied to Dadof3's topic in Long Range Shooting
These should go on sale come tax day. Not the prettiest, but a solid scope. https://www.swfa.com/swfa-ss-hd-5-20x50-tactical-30mm-riflescope-3.html?___SID=U -

Nice tine length on your buck and cool NT you handed over to your brother. Looks like you ate well too.
-
One thought is to get a rifle with a chassis stock so you can easily adjust LOP as he grows.
-
My thoughts lean towards the Tikka T3x Lite in 7mm-08. In addition to cutting down the stock for proper length, you might try the add-on changeable closed grip with the Tikka to address the grip to trigger distance for smaller hands. You might also look into the Browning Micro Midas.

As the year draws towards the end, and the decade for that matter too, it becomes time to select one's favorite images of the past year. In 2019, I got out photographing less due to a lack of several things, but I did get to spend a few weeks in the desert this spring and also time with a new GWP pup. In reviewing images, I noticed that I was drawn more to black and white this year, so hence there is a good percentage of those in the set. Here are five of the eleven images from 2019 that resonated with me the most. The whole set of favorites can be seen on my website. https://www.plateaulightphotography.com/Favorite-landscape-photographs-yearly/2019-Favorite--Landscape-Photographs/ Merry Christmas and blessings to y'all in 2020

What Caliber For Rebarrel?
Red Rabbit replied to Hoss50's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I'd stick with the the 257 WBY. Sounds like it has some sentimental value as first rifle and first game kill with it. Plenty a good bullets in 25 cal to be had for Coues. 257 will have a little less recoil than 264WM. Don't know if your rifle will be braked or with suppressor. You said you had access to 7mm (possibly for elk?), so a 257 offers a greater caliber difference. -
The sweetest revolver I ever shot was a friend's Python. This was back in the 80's.

Opportunity presented you a real nice buck -
What is your favorite Christmas music to listen to and fill your heart? "Mary Did You Know" sung by Kathy Mattea is mine.

I had a lot of fun on my DIY Wyoming antelope hunt several years ago in a premium unit. I am sitting on 9 points now and have been looking at units and draw odds to possibly cash in. We'll see how hard this winter is. Time off, as you said, is a limiting factor and has caused me to just buy points as I have had other hunts in AZ. AZBIG10, your wife has a good idea about WY antelope, flyfishing and hot tubs that could be fun and done several times through the years.

I'm with 131 in doing the physically tough hunts before the mountains get taller and steeper.

Thanks all for the kind comments. @Dug- yes, I have been remiss at taking photos of Clover. @Lee- I struggled to make Bs and Cs in English and literature, so I'll let the lens or someone else write the poetry.

You might try some at a store to see how they line up with the eye when you mount them to the shoulder.

Tis that time. If you know of any super deals on hunting and outdoor gear, feel inclined to post them up here. 🙂

Lance posted his daughter Taylor's great buck. Tony has posted some from Duwane's camp.

It was very windy and rainy most of the night until about 3AM. Calmer winds now at 6:30 and about 5" of the white stuff here in Kachina Village south of Flagstaff. it is supposed to snow most of today. I think Saturday morning will be a great time to hunt elk on the canyon edges and routes. Good luck to y'all who are out hunting.

Forest Service Roads Closing On The Coconino National Forest Ahead Of Winter Storm Roads are beginning to close ahead of a major winter storm that will affect Northern Arizona this week. The Coconino National Forest will close all forest service roads adjacent to highways 180 and 89 today north to Forest Road 552, keeping Christmas Tree cutting open. All forest service roads on the Mogollon Rim Ranger District will also close, except for the Pinyon Christmas Tree cutting area. ADOT says they are closing State Route 67 to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon early for the season ahead of the storm. ADOT closes the 43-mile stretch of highway each winter between Highway 89A and Jacob Lake and the North Rim.

I called the Coconino NF office. As of right now, the closures are in the Flagstaff district north of I-40, and the Mogollon district. No closures are currently in effect south of I-40 in the Flagstaff district. https://www.fs.usda.gov/detailfull/coconino/alerts-notices/?cid=stelprdb5441646&width=full
