With horses, you could pack into the Pajarita Wilderness and leave most everyone behind. Good luck on your hunt. Welcome, and congrats on your 22 buck you pictured. Doug~RR

Hunter Numbers Drop

I suppose the perspective is different if one considers ASHA whose board has anti-gun connections. http://www.nraila.org/Hunting/Read/Hunting...les.aspx?ID=200 -
Tony's Party Questions
Red Rabbit replied to Outdoor Writer's topic in CouesWhitetail.com Get-togethers!
Sunset will be about 6:15 in regard to any optics testing. I can bring Leica 10+15 Duovids, Velbon Luxi-F and Velbon Chaser EFL tripods. Anyone interested in shooting some sporting clays at Ben Avery on that Sat? Doug~RR -

Preferred vegetation to hunt coues in?
Red Rabbit replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I generally look for the 4000'-5000' elevations and the bottom of the oaks. Still somewhat open for glassing and still have the beauty of the oaks and grass. Have also sought the shelter of the oaks during the occasional rain, or shade during the warmer days. -
Is the rancher allowing you to scout before the season that you can swing by after your two other hunts? Best of luck to ya on your hunt. Doug~RR

While we wait for the next installment, how did the quest for the big muley go?

NL, Great story to share. Liked the details and emotions that you told as it really puts one alongside of you on the hunt. Doug~RR -

Congratulations Dallas and RAC. Thanks to all who entered and to Amanda. Doug~RR -
http://nosler.com/index.php?p=12 http://www.noslerreloading.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=4256 May be overkill for a coues, but are rumored to be accurate. But what is "too dead" and may help with blowing up the shoulders/reduce bloodshot meat. Could be good for unit 9, 12 and 13 to reduce worries of the condors ingesting lead from deer and elk carcasses. I'm sure I will have to try a box for grins. RR

MidwayUSA shows the 30cal 180gr e-tips being available at $31.99 for a box of 50. Only a couple of bucks more than the partitions. I ordered a box to try in my 300WSMs. Winchester is to have the e-tips loaded into factory ammo this fall, but I did not see it listed yet on the Midway site for the 300WSM.

ATV Restrictions On The Way
Red Rabbit replied to Outdoor Writer's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
The past few months the Coconino and Kaibab NF has had open houses for the travel management plans. After these, the reg of having to camp within a car width of the road is still proposed, as is not allowing a vehicle to recover game. -

Were you shooting off the bench, or from the Stoney point tripod? -
Commonly called "tadpole shrimp." Saw lots of them in the ponds in southern Utah during an antelope hunt a few years ago. Pretty cool looking. http://www.caver.net/shrimp.html

Larry, Between the bucks n bruins, looks like you had a pretty good weekend. Doug~RR

Henry does real nice sheep mounts. A friend had his done by Henry. Hoping Tim can do mine one of these years.

Way to go Geoff! RR

In 2002, I took this antelope from southwest Utah. Tim Rajsich of TR Taxidermy did this wall pedestal. I like the offset wall pedestal form/manikin with or without base better than a normal shoulder mount form as it puts more life back into the mount, imo. Ooops, how'd these woodies sneak in here? Doug~RR

Tim Rajsich of TR Taxidermy in Flagstaff has been doing my mounts since I moved to Flagstaff. Here is a pedestal mount of a coues taken over ten years ago. I have included some closeups. Look at the eyes, nostril depth, ear butts, lip tuck when choosing your taxidermist. Tim has done several other nice mounts for me. I went the cheapest route on my first mounts when living in Texas, and you get what you pay for. Doug~RR
