July 2007 Guess the Score Contest
Red Rabbit replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Contests and Giveaways!
Seems like many scores have been guessed already. JMO, but I would put in for what score you estimate even if it has been guessed before. If two or three have the right one, than the net score will be used for a tiebreaker. The contest runs for a month and there are a lot more guessers than available numbers. Doug~RR -
Not much compares to chasing a bugling bull and calling him close with a bow in hand. I'd scrap the Nov rifle desire and hunt em in September with a bow. Unless you have max points, the odds of getting drawn for an early rifle tag are less than 1% with even 11 points. Odds for archery are 80-100% with 11BP. Call G&F and order the bonus point analysis by hunt number for $25.

You are already at max published velocity for 165/168 grain bullets. You could try a 300 RUM or 30-378 for more velocity. Try varying your charge a few tenths at a time 81.0, 81.3, 81.6, 81.9 Vary the seating depth alittle with the best load. Try a different powder like H1000 or Ramshot Magnum

Are you freezing the fetuses or placing them in Formalin to preserve them?
-
Sounds like a better deal to me. Now you do not have to worry about the USPS delivering a day early, or routing it through San Francisco and missing the draw. Thanks for inquiring, Tony RR

It's about time to set up the contest for this year, now that the excitement of the draw results is upon us. The contest was started with MonsterMuleys.com as a way to develop interest in the forums, share our excitement about our coues hunts and show some pics. No entry fees have been required, and any prizes have been donations from the members. Any suggestions regarding the format? Improvements? Are you happy the way it is? Doug~RR

Stan, Todd should be receiving a check in the mail. It is more than enough to buy lunch for his spotter

Flagstaff Archers will be hosting the Max Hamilton 3-D Shoot July 21 & 22 at Willard Springs. Location is 3/4 mile west off exit 326 on I-17 (14 miles south of Flagstaff). There will be 45 targets (3 courses of 15). THis is a fun shoot- no trophies. We will have door prizes. Contact Doug at (928) 606-7211 for more info about the shoot. The Coconino National Forest had a meeting this Monday morning 7/9/07 and have decided to remain under fire restrictions and NOT CLOSE the forest. http://www.fs.fed.us/r3/coconino/

For a tripod light in weight like the Slik Sprint pro, but having much stiffer legs, look at the Velbon LUXi-f that Doug at Camera Land is selling for $119. It comes with a 3-way head. http://www.velbon-tripod.com/ultra_maxi.htm

Advice on Scope BDC's for long range shots
Red Rabbit replied to Atypical's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
The B&C or Ballistic Plex reticles are set for a group of cartridges, so your load may not match the marks exactly, but a little time at the range shooting at 300 and 400 should tell you where you are hitting for each hash mark. Or you might be able to mark your power ring so the marks are on 300 and 400 yards exactly, instead of the pre-marked triangle on the power ring. I have the B&C on my 22-50. It worked well out to 500 yards when Casey and I shot at rocks across a canyon- much better than guessing inches of hold-over. I would consider the B&C over the varmint reticle as the fine cross hairs on the varmint reticle may be hard to see in dim light. Doug~RR -
Jeff, I would choose the 25-06 over the 25WSSM due to the better factory ammo selection of the 25-06 and near equal velocities. With the 257WBY, you are limited to the pricey Weatherby ammo, but this is a great coues chambering that has a case capacity similar to your 7RM. If you handload, you might consider the 257WBY or the 264Win Mag. Doug~RR

How about breaking the archery into typical and non-typical categories due to the good archery success? -
2007 Coues Contest
Red Rabbit replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Casey, If you read the prior post by AZpackhorse closely, you will see that you have missed the deadline of 10/15/2006 to enter the 2007 contest. The Forky you scare to death by shooting all around it this Dec in 36B, consequently, cannot be accepted into the contest. Sorry. RR -
Draw Results Available Online
Red Rabbit replied to Outdoor Writer's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Veasjeep, If you would rather have the Dec tag, then you need to put it first choice. As long as you put it in second and Oct first, you will not draw Dec due to the draw odds and Oct still having tags after Dec is filled. The odds of drawing the Oct tag are the same whether it is the first or second choice, as both 1st and 2nd are looked at when your number is selected. Doug~RR -
Yes, it's so Geico easy even a caveman could do it
