Casey, Some people chipped in 10-20 bucks to help with shipping. The extra was used to buy a few prizes. Appreciate the considerate thought. RR -
Gino, The Coconino will no longer have fire restrictions beginning Friday at 8AM. Brad is a liberal troll, best not to feed or incite him. RR

Devin, These are the guidelines from LAST YEAR 2006-2007 Coues Whitetail Buck Contest CouesWhitetail.com will be sponsoring a COUES BUCK CONTEST again for the second year. The contest?s purpose is to garner interest in the beloved coues whitetail and this website, and to share our hunt successes and pleasures from the field chasing the gray ghost. This contest will be open to registered members of CouesWhitetail.com and their immediate families living at home (husband or wife, sons & daughters under 18). Deer must be taken between September 1, 2006 and January 31, 2007 from Arizona, New Mexico or Mexico. If you have multiple tags, i.e. from different states, you may enter deer from each hunt. To register, your personal message or e-mail to Doug/Red Rabbit must include the following: Name Member name/handle Telephone number E-mail address Mailing/shipping address To enter your deer 1) e-mail Doug/Red Rabbit a field photo of you and your deer, its gross B&C/P&Y score, hunt unit and date killed. Amanda will then post your picture on the home page. 2) You are certainly encouraged to post your picture and hunt story in the regular forums. If you have difficulty posting a picture, this thread may help, or asking another member will certainly get it done. http://www.coueswhitetail.com/forums/index...?showtopic=3721 Scoring your deer. Amanda has a nice ?how-to? on the home page complete with photos, instructions and downloadable score sheets. Again, the gross score is needed for this contest. http://www.coueswhitetail.com/how_to_score..._Coues_deer.htm The contest will close January 31, 2007, at the end of archery season. Entry photos with info/story must be posted in the forums and received by Doug/Red Rabbit by Feb. 15, 2007. -
Thanks a bunch guys. My post was a lot of tongue-in-cheek about the e-scouting by first-time posters. I find the researching and scouting as enjoyable as the hunt itself, so there will be plenty of time put on the ground. But my ears are still open to where that 126 NT is tied to the tree Doug~RR

CnS, In the article, they used 168s from a 300 mag, and a 264 WM, in addition to smaller slower chamberings. Seems that regardless of velocity or distance or caliber, the results were similar. I like the high BC and hopefully the accuracy offered by the VLDs. I am hoping to get the accuracy that I have not yet gotten from the Accubond in my 6.5 WSM. The delayed expansion is unlike the results of a Ballistic Tip or SMK. Doug~RR

Federal Ammo and Hogdgon Powders close factories
Red Rabbit posted a topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
http://www.nssf.org/news/PR_idx.cfm?PRloc=...PR=BP070207.cfm Proposed OSHA Regulation Threatens Firearm and Ammunition Industry The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the government agency charged with assuring the safety and health of America's workers, is proposing a regulatory rule affecting the manufacturing, transportation and storage of small arms ammunition, primers and smokeless propellants. As written, the proposed rule would force the closure of nearly all ammunition manufacturers and force the cost of small arms ammunition to skyrocket beyond what the market could bear—essentially collapsing our industry. This is not an exaggeration. The cost to comply with the proposed rule for the ammunition industry, including manufacturer, wholesale distributors and retailers, will be massive and easily exceed $100 million. For example, ammunition and smokeless propellant manufacturers would have to shut down and evacuate a factory when a thunderstorm approached and customers would not be allowed within 50 feet of any ammunition (displayed or otherwise stored) without first being searched for matches or lighters. NSSF and SAAMI have already had a preliminary meeting with OSHA officials to begin the process of explaining to them the major problems this proposed rule presents for all levels of the firearms and ammunition industry. Furthermore, NSSF and SAAMI are each seeking a 60 day extension of the public comment period (currently scheduled to expire July 12). NSSF is urging all retailers to contact OSHA directly and request a 60-day extension of the public comment period. Retailers should inform OSHA that the proposed rule constitutes a "significant regulatory action" as defined in Executive Order 12866 (1993) Section 3(f)(1) in that it will clearly "adversely affect in a material way" the retail sector of the firearms and ammunition industry, productivity, competition and jobs and that the annual compliance cost for all retailers of ammunition will far exceed $100 million dollars. Click here for a template letter. If you choose to draft your own letter, the reference line must read as follows: RE: Docket No. OSHA–2007–0032 Request to Extend Public Comment Period and Request for Hearing on "Significant Regulatory Action" as Defined in Executive Order 12866 Please fax the letter to: 202-693-1648 (include the docket number and Department of Labor/OSHA on the cover sheet and in the reference section of your letter). This is what I would recommend for metallic reloading: 1) RCBS Rockchucker Supreme press 2) RCBS Chargemaster 1500 electronic scale combo (better/more convenient than a manual powder scale, trickler, scoops and powder throw) 3) case trimmer 4) deburring tool 5) loading block (Midway has cartridge specific ones that work better than the one size fits all) 6) Hand primer- 7) Powder funnel 8) Hornady/Stoney Point oal guage and modified case 9) Hornady/Stoney Point bullet Comparator- for bullet seating depth 10) Hornady One Shot spray lube (easier than lube pad) 11) dies (sizing and bullet seating - 2 die set) 12) RCBS shell holder for press 13) Hornady reloading manual (good info on reloading steps) The RCBS Advanced RockChucker Supreme Reloading Kit includes items 1-7. I have a Uniflow powder measure, but rarely used it except for ball powders for the pistol or H380 for the 22-250. I really like the Chargemaster combo instead of a beam balance scale. You probably won't save any money reloading, but you can choose the bullet you want and most likely get a load more accurate than factory ammo. If you only shoot a few boxes a year, I'd stick with factory ammo. Doug~RR
