Dave, I have not been around Suzuki ATVs enough to give you a valid opinion. Doug~RR

Dave, Kelley Blue Book gives ATV values in the motorcycle section. http://www.kbb.com/kbb/Motorcycles/Default...nkId=hp_mc_text Doug~RR

Bill, Sounds like a fun hunt in the making. I can't help you with personal experience, but can just add blessings for an enjoyable hunt. Doug~RR

One of hte Slik Carbon Pros, like the 614, may suit your needs. lightweight for when you pack in. http://www.thkphoto.com/products/slik/slik-cfs6-b.html

Jim White also makes a panning attachment useful with pistol grips. It's shown in the link to the CWT.com bookstore I posted above. RR

Jim White's head is top notch. http://www.coueswhitetail.com/bookstore/tripods_adaptor.htm For tripods, I have the Velbon Chaser EFL4 (new model is the Sherpa). Like the sturdiness and adjustable leg angles. Tried the Slik Sprint Mini to save weight in the pack, but found the legs to flex too much. Got the Velbon LUXi from Doug at Camera Land in NY, and it is lighter than my Velbon and the legs are stiffer than the Slik Sprint. Many like the carbon tripod from Outdoorsmans http://outdoorsmans.com/tripod.html Have you considered the Swaro 15x56 bino? RR

Coues Buck Contest WINNERS
Red Rabbit replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
What I noticed is that both last year and this year, the archers did exceedingly well with respect to the rifle hunters. Doug~RR -
DB- According to their website, June 29-July1 http://www.sunriseskipark.com/3-d%20shootout%202006.shtml What a great place for a shoot. I went to the Sunrise shoot last year for the first time (Flagstaff Archers have had a july 4th shoot for eons), and really enjoyed the courses. Area is much better than Williams, Fort Tuthill or Mormon Lake, imo. I'm glad ABA made the move, but not liking the conflict with the Clints Well shoot, another enjoyable shoot. RR

zeiss conquest 15x45
Red Rabbit replied to crazy4COUES's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
With the 45mm objective on the 15x45, I would be concernd about the 3mm exit pupil and brightness at dawn and dusk. I'd opt for the Minox 15x58, $699 Minox vs $629 Conquest thru Doug RR -
Just finished putting together my coues and antelope rifle. This is the first rifle I have had done. I had Winchester Model 70 Super Grade in 300WSM that beckoned to be necked down to 6.5 mm. Kirby Allen of Allen Precision Shooting in Montana trued the action, reamed chamber of the Pac-Nor barrel, and glass/pillar bedded the action. Doug Birch at Fit4Duty Cerakoted and micoslicked the works. Pac-Nor stainless super match, 1 in 9 polygonal, 26", 0.560" at muzzle Leupold Dual Dove tail bases and rings Leupold Vari-X III 3.5-10x40 duplex w/ turrets 9 lb. 6 oz. total 50 rounds of brass are ready to be loaded and topped with the 130 Accubonds for starters. Will post range results asap. Doug~RR

Tried the 130 gr Scirocco and H1000 this weekend. Not the best results yet, but have more powders and seating depths to play with. This is the load of 65.3 gr H1000 at 3178fps that will have to do for next weekend's Javelina hunt in unit 23. Hopefully the peccaries will show up for the party. RR

Don't know if there is enough elevation in those turrets to shoot something 5 miles away

First Scouting Trip of 2007
Red Rabbit replied to scoutm's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
Chris, Thanks for scouting for me . Can I help with a little gas money? RR -
Tim, I quickly punched in some numbers into Point Blank for a 300 mag shooting a 180 bullet like an Accubond or Ballistic tip, bc=.507, at 3000fps Shooting at 4000' elevation, 70*F and 100 yard zero, the drop at 700 yards is 102" Shooting at 7000' elevation, 40*F and 100 yard zero, the drop at 700 yards is 100" At sea level, the drop would be 108" But if you change loads, say to a 150 BT , bc=.435, at 3300fps, the drop at 700 yards is 85" (7000', 40*) If you use one load, the BDC would work. If you're like me and always trying different bullets and loads, the regular turret would be better, unless one buys a diff BDC knob for each load. I agree with what you're saying. It comes to preference, IMO. Ford or Chevy, they'll both get us to camp. Doug

Scott, I thought you were going with Hill Country? What action and barrel manufacturers? Stock? Doug

CnS, Eric did mention that he was talking with someone about the rifle plastered on CWT and was thankful for the small plug for Ruffs. Showed the rifle to him yesterday. He said that he had gotten about 3 Super Grades with really nice wood. My bank account is glad that I only saw one. Scott, Are you going to do the machining yourself- reaming, threading, square the action, lap lugs, bolt face, headspace? I'll pass along any load data when you're ready. Doug~RR

I'd run with the turrets, rather than a TDS/B&C reticle that is power ring specific and stops at 500-600 yards. The Kenton BDC are load specific and also set for one altitude. Turrets can be used for diff loads and conditions. The Nightforce NXS gets a lot of comment as a top scope. I have Leupolds and a Conquest with turrets. I think the Conquest has sharper image. A 30mm tube will give you more adjustment range than a 1" tube. Be concerned with the tracking and repeatability of the scope adjustments in your choice. That high speed of the X may be due to the shorter 6" brace height. One consideration for shootability. Notice that Primos shifted from PSE to Bear Archery. Pray tell? RR

Casey, Yes, but same difference, but easier with the 270WSM. (OK, you caught my one mistake allowed for today )

Josh, I had a tag in unit B several years ago. Tags are first come- first serve. I do not know if any are left. Call the tribal office and check. Amanda should be able to give some insight into the better units. I believe A is good also. Doug~RR
