I spent last evening and this morning overlooking Mormon Lake. There is still plenty of water, which kept the herds of elk closer to camera range, but still a long way out even at 500mm. There were two large groups of elk and many groups of a few. I did expect to see more calves for the number of cows though.

Full length or neck sizing?
Red Rabbit replied to Lazy-H98's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I have been using a FL die to just partially resize and bump the shoulder rather than fully FL resize. I have not have any feeding/chambering issues this way, but one should feed their ammo before a hunt to check for any problems. I have purchased factory ammo with the neck mouth bent back so obviously it would not chamber. -
If you had one brand choice for AZ camo set ( pants+ shirt) which would you pick?
Red Rabbit replied to Gut Pile's topic in Other Hunting Gear
I'll take a pair of good upland brush pants to combat the catclaw. I think the camo pattern of the upper will be determined by the darkness/lightness of the vegetation if you are hunting close for archery or turkey. -
Just a little late on closing the barn door. https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/tonto/news-events/?cid=FSEPRD638469

A lefty Tikka in 270 Win or 270 WSM would be a good consideration. -

I saw that a few months ago when reading reports, and was left scratching my head.

Thanks Tony. Rica left a good impression of the GWP breed. -
They are starting out great!

Meet Clover
Red Rabbit replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Clover is 11 weeks old now. Housebreaking was quick. She's sleeping through most nights in her kennel without needing to be taken out. Working on "come" now, although butterflies are a solid distraction. -

All of the pups have found new happy hunting homes.

My friends Mike and Darby Middleton in Chino Valley have two male German Wire-haired Pointer pups for sale. They were whelped March 22, so are 5 weeks old now. They will be good to rehome in another 3 weeks. Both dam and sire are AKC registered. Their dam is "Rizer' and comes from Central basin Kennels in Camp Verde. Eragon is the sire from Flagstaff and is dark colored. If you are interested or have questions, please contact Darby Middleton at DarbyMiddleton(at)gmail(dot)com or nine28four20441five. Darby is asking $750 for the males. "Drive" Pup #1 He is the smallest pup in the litter of 6 and has the best facial markings, imo.

Darby tells me that Drive is the last of the remaining pups. Drive will be 10 weeks old this weekend. He is the GWP pup in the first 5 photos in this thread.

As Casey noted, a scope is not included. Rifle is with bases and rings only.

HS Precision SPR rifle chambered in 300 WSM Pro-Series 2000 action, 3-posiiton safety 26" Sporter Magnum Contour, 10x cut rifled barrel 0.66" at muzzle, teflon coated. Tan stock with black webbing. Limbsaver recoil pad added. Bases and 1"rings included. Scope is not included. Action/bedding block has been skim bedded. Barrel has been recrowned (yep, sling slipped off the shoulder and it landed muzz first) Detachable magazine holds 2 rounds comfortably, 3 is tight. Round count is about 800 per my load data. This rifle shoots well with 180 and 200 gr Accubonds (5-shot groups hover at an inch, best 3-shot is 0.230) https://www.hsprecision.com/shop2/firearms/hunting-rifles/american-rifle-spr/ Note the stock on this rifle is like the SPL model shown on the website, not the one shown now on the SPR. $1300 face to face. (New rifles are currently priced at $3500)

Bullies of the range! Well written!

On my U9 cow elk hunt last October, I saw more feral horses than elk. I hunted the southeast side.
