Another late night creature was out on the deck rail last night hoping for the draw results. (wish i had taken the time to use a tripod instead of handholding a slow exposure)

Stan, is she the chosen one? Would like to get together and go quail hunting this year. DB,you can buy that quail scent in a bottle and use it as a mouth wash. Maybe then your dog won't run away. Works for my GWP Doug~RR

Why a spotting scope????
Red Rabbit replied to coueshunter's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Danny, That maze of limbs reminds me of shooting a good smoker course for 3D archery. I've learned a lot about arrow trajectory by shooting them. A good friend attributes a caribou bull he arrowed in Quebec to the smokers he shot and learning how to thread the needle. He had a small mid-trajectoy window to shoot through. I always believed that in a good smoker, the shots got progressively more difficult, the penalties of missing progressively harder, and only a few should be able to complete it intact. Great fun to shoot, AND watch as others blow up arrows. Don't know if I'd launch an arrow into that octillo maze, though. RR -
Add a little deer-in-heat, or cow-in-estrus urine to that portable mister system. Keep cool and attract bucks and bulls at the same time I kinda prefer a ladder stand. Safer and easier to get up and down. RR

Why a spotting scope????
Red Rabbit replied to coueshunter's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Sure Danny, make us look first with the spotter turned to 20X, and t-h-e-n crank it up to 60X Now the next question is: how to thread the bullet through that maze of Octillo I kinda like these "Where's Waldo" games, but with coues. RR -
I just got off the phone w/ B of A. No pending charges. Maybe tomorrow. Guess the extra balance that AZGFD doesn't want can go to Alaska G&F this Oct. Congrats to all of you so far that now get to gladly make a CC payment. RR

Thanks for the feedback guys. I am going Saturday to look at and most likely purchase the trailer mentioned by AG (did you get the Polaris?) RR

Should be contained today., still listed at 566 acres rr

Lark, Sorry about your son having to cancel all his cards, but glad someone turned in his wallet. G&F should still post his draw results, so he could see if he's SOL. Perhaps the draw company will be calling him for a different form of payment. Doug~RR

Kachina Bulls
Red Rabbit replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
I only noticed five bulls last time, with the two larger six points missing. About that time, I noticed a bull dead in the median of I-17 by the meadow with the antlers cut off. THere have been several elk hit between Kachina Village and the airport this summer. RR -
Seven of the Kachina bulls were out in the meadow south of Flagstaff this evening. Doug~RR

Jamaro/Jason, Is this the thread on Archerytalk.com that you mentioned? Sounds like the new door is nice and I like the new predator camo. I'll give him a call. http://www.archerytalk.com/vb/showthread.p...ght=double+bull Doug~RR

Why a spotting scope????
Red Rabbit replied to coueshunter's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Since getting a pair of 15x binos, I have not carried the spotting scope on coues hunts. Prior, the use of an eyepatch with the spotter made it a lot more comfortable than squinting, but not up to bino comfort. Perhaps with a sheep tag, a spotting scope will be packed. Drawing a sheep tag could also be a good reason to uprade from Cabelas version of the Redfield Regal IV that I got 20 years ago. I can't see where a cheap spotter would be helpful over a nice pair of 15's. If you use a spotter to judge distant antlers, you need high resolution that the Burris Landmark and $100 Trashcos cannot provide. What good is a bigger blurry image? My $0.02 RR -
I have a good friend in Boise, Idaho (a fireman, actually) who drew a bighorn sheep tag in ID this year on his first year of applying. He's up in the Frank Church wilderness scouting right now. Beginners luck can happen to any of us with a few, if any, bogus points. I remember the hoopla of it happenining to Gov Jane Hull's son. Doug~RR

It was posted on Bowsite that the draw possibly happened last night, With the 40 hour system shutdown to post the draw, I figure we could see the draw results on AZGFD.com sometime Friday. Any cyber-cafes in Williams for the Bowhunter Happening could be busy this weekend. RR

POSTED TODAY!!!!!!!! this week's fishing report
-
If I just put the cursor on the roadless area picture on the main page, it says "Big game draw-view draw information" Are they at G&F getting ready to make the switch? RR
-
Will it be a baby girl or baby boy you adopt? She? should be fine in the house and a hard worker in the field. Just will need to avoid the cholla areas you've learned to hunt. RR

Chris, it turned out great. RR

any new gear this year?
Red Rabbit replied to firstcoueswas80's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Casey, Ask Lark. He got a new mule to get back into 36b come December, so I'm assuming that was your tag you woulda drawn. Shoulda spent the money on banjo lessons . He said the rifle should be done in time to work up loads for Kodiak in late Oct. RR -
What time are you planning on being at the Pine Country?
-
TAM, I took my rifle for a hike in NM 23 last year. I think SunDevil got the last coues there, a reclusive dink of a buck. Can't remember if CB said if it was being chased by a hairy, ape-like creature or not. Sure glad I didn't pull a tag there this year for a waste of a hunt. In AZ, I had heard enough to know not to apply for 23. I've seen pics of bucks from the good old days, but those deer are dead now. Today, it's all about opportunity (to go camping with a rifle) RR

New Binos (Leica Duovid 10+15) from Doug@CameraLand, new MysteryRanch NICE pack w/ load carrier, 6.5 WSM being built on a Winchester SuperGrade, and a new 2006 December WT tag ( I got a peek at the pre-draw results .) Doug~RR
